I agree it is a sad story but its nice to see how she grows and gets through her struggles each day. It is an interesting story but i wouldn't recommend it to lots of people because of how strong the topic is but i'm glad you want to read it.

Precious is about a girl named Claireece Precious Jones an illiterate 16-year-old girl who gets sexually abused by both her parents. She lives with her abusive mother in Harlem and is pregnant with her second child. she had her first baby at age 12 from when her father raped her as well as the second baby. Her first baby was born with down syndrome, so she lives with Claireeces grandma, but her mom is getting money from the state because she claims she’s taking care of the baby. When Her school discovers she pregnant they kick her out, so she starts going to an alternative school for kids with troubled backgrounds. Ms. Rain is precious’s teacher in the pre-GED class for students who don’t meet eighth grade level. She also helps precious get into a halfway house after giving birth to her son Abdul. At the alternative school precious meets other girls with troubled backgrounds who help her go through her troubles because they’ve gone through similar backgrounds.
My opinion on precious is it’s a good book but it’s a little difficult to read at first because it’s written the way precious talks which is a lot of slang and misspelled words. As the story goes on Precious gets better at her writing so the reading gets a little easier to understand. I liked the way the story ended because you can tell how much she has grown with the help of her teacher and friends. Another thing I like about this book is it shares the stories of the other girls and the problems they have. Overall precious is a good book but it has a very strong topic and I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone but those who are comfortable with the topic should read it because it’s a good book.
