squeakers | 63 comments Hey mods, hope is all with you!

How do I count a DNF'd book for the 'Let's Count Pages' challenge?
I still read pages, but I didnt finish the book (obviously) so I was wondering if I could still log those pages in but label it DNF? Or would it just not be in the challenge at all?

Hi Randall,
Can you message me to discuss it?
You certainly do not have to participate in twins if you don't want to! :) But if there is an issue with another member, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks!

Michelle E Hello!

I am way behind on my challenge and have changed it from 80 to 50. Now it's in the wrong place. Are you able to move that for me?

Much appreciated!

message 260: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments I know this is not relating to this specific group, so I'm sorry, but maybe someone has noticed the same or knows something that I haven't been able to dig up anywhere else.

My notifications are not updating. Like the last notification when I click on the bell is from 11 hours ago, but I can see there's been plenty of activity in all groups since, and as late as 5 min ago.

This is, unfortunately, a recurring problem on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and seems to happen at least once or twice a year.
There are several questions already in Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Help, I'll keep an eye on them to see if there are any updates. .

I had checked Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Help but must've missed any threads discussing the issue recently :)
But great, just good ol' Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ being Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, just great :D

Thanks Ilona :)

Lina | 823 comments I have increased my personal reading challenge goal from 50 to 75 books- could one of you please move my page?

Thanks in advance!

message 264: by TerryJane, Challenges (last edited Apr 06, 2023 08:46PM) (new)

TerryJane | 3805 comments Hi, Lina. Congrats on a great start to your reading this year!

I've moved your personal challenge thread to the 51-75 folder
here.

I notice you included 75+ in your challenge title. Would you prefer to have your thread in the 76-100 folder instead?

message 265: by Lina (new)

Lina | 823 comments Thanks TerryJane! That folder is great for now, if I keep reading at this pace I might ask again later, if that is okay.
Thanks a lot!

message 266: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi (schadenfreudian) | 628 comments I don't know that you all will know but worth a shot.

When I'm updating some (not all) I get the following message:

and then I can't save my post. I tried moving my post further down thread and it won't let me submit the post. I've asked the site's About us, and I haven't found a solution.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe there is a list of blocked words that the titles of some of my books (Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone and I’m Glad My Mom Died for example) is tripping it.

What do?

Bobbi, I don't know for sure, but the link to an external page may be the issue. Try posting without the gif. If that doesn't help, maybe try a different browser. Good luck. 😊

Kalyn | 531 comments Hi! I have a question for the Mods :)
Regarding the 2023 Yearly Challenges, if I sign up for some of them now (June 2023) can I add books that I've already read THIS year into my goal for those challenges? Or only books I read once I've actually signed up for the challenge?

Thank you for any help! :)

Hi Kalyn,

Yes, you can count the books you've already read this year and fit that particular challenge.
Good luck! :)

TerryJane | 3805 comments Carol wrote: "I just completed the I Spy challenge and posted a status update. I noticed that the stats have not been updated for a long time."

Congratulations on completing the challenge, Carol!

We usually update more frequently, but the group moderators are volunteers and, understandably, we sometimes have personal situations arise that get in the way of our plans.

Thanks for letting us know that it needs to be updated. I'll remind Ashleigh. 🙂

Carol Palmer | 526 comments Thanks, TerryJane. I know you're all busy and I really appreciate everything y'all do for the group! There's no need to rush... you've just gotten me spoiled! LOL

Carol Palmer | 526 comments FYI:
In the Discussion>Yearly Challenges folder, something is not right. I'm pretty sure you'll want to take care of the problem. Someone has posted the following comment:

"Find inspiring lessons from the Terminator that will help you boost your motivation and stay on track to achieving success."

I don't know how he got into that folder to make that post, but there it is! dated yesterday Aug 04, 2023 12:28PM

Megan (sporadic hiatus due to law school) (excessivenarwhal) | 172 comments Hello! This is my first year with the group so I'm still dipping my toe in the waters - I haven't done a buddy read before but was hoping to join one for this month (September). Am I able to join a buddy read even though they have already been posted and there are specific people reading that book, and if so, is there anything I need to do to sign up? Thank you!!

Welcome to the group :) You can definitely join a buddy read that has already been posted. Just let the others know by commenting in the topic for that book and read along. If you'd like to join any future buddy reads, you can let SarahKat know by posting in the buddy read sign-up thread.

Hey Valerie,
It's a weird glitch with Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ right now. Hopefully they'll get it sorted soon. Thanks!

message 280: by Audrey (new)

Audrey | 22 comments Hi, I wondered if the mods might consider including non-fiction (self-help, personal growth) as a new thread with group or buddy reads? I would be interested in joining some booktalks but have yet to find any active bookclubs.

TerryJane | 3805 comments Audrey wrote: "Hi, I wondered if the mods might consider including non-fiction (self-help, personal growth) as a new thread with group or buddy reads? I would be interested in joining some booktalks but have yet ..."

Audrey, you can read about how Group Reads work here. You can nominate a book for the group read based on the monthly theme, then we read the one that wins the poll. For December, the poll winner is nonfiction, Brief Answers to the Big Questions.

For Buddy Reads, you can suggest nonfiction you're interested in reading in an upcoming month, and if others want to join, the Buddy Reads mod will create a discussion thread. You can read how Buddy Reads work here.

Check the group discussion for new offerings, nicely summed up in the newsletter (Announcements section).

Hope this helps!

message 282: by TerryJane, Challenges (new)

TerryJane | 3805 comments Another thought, Audrey, is the newly posted Dewey Decimal 2024 yearly challenge. Lots of non-fiction reading opportunity there, though not necessarily discussion.

By the way, I wanted to send this to you directly, but your privacy settings won't allow me to do so. Hope you see my posts anyway.

Keri Sparks | 589 comments So every year you guys host the Secret Santa event, and every year I almost miss it. I was wondering, would it be too much of a hassle to send out a separate message announcing that the event is open and available for ppl to sign up on? I also ask this because I see that someone did miss out, so I'm apparently not the only one failing to pay attention. X/
It's okay, if that's too much. You all do so much for this group, and I really appreciate it. I don't wish to make more work for you. It's just a thought.

You sure can count audiobooks! I use the page count for the most popular edition of the book. And you can definitely add any you have read this year! Just post a comment in the thread and let me know what page count you’re at.

Zhana Zhana (zhana21) | 21 comments Hi. I've got a question: I have finally finished a book! (Reading one, that is.) Where can I post about this and link to my review? I have created this folder already: /topic/show/...

Is this where I can post about a book I have read? Let me know. Thanks.
