This is a year-long reading challenge for 2020. You use the first word of the title for each letter of the alphabet. You can exclude articles such as a, an, the, etc . For example, The Impatient Groom could be your "I" title. We have found that some of the letters can be quite difficult so for letters Q, U, X, Y, and Z, as long as the letter is in the title somewhere, they will be accepted any time after June 2020. At least 50% of the books should be published by Harlequin or any of our imprints, such as MIRA, HQN, Park Row, Graydon House, Inkyard, Hanover Square, Carina Press, and Worldwide Mystery.

Thanks, Annie. I've had a lot of time sitting in waiting rooms for the past few months. It really helped my reading list. :) My husband had a heart attack at the end of January and he's had a lot of appointments since his hospital stay. He needs open-heart surgery but it is considered elective so it is on hold due to the virus. We stay home as much as possible so I'm getting even more reading time. ~ Kim

Annie Burrows | 257 comments oh, dear, this is a worrying time for so many people. I have just downloaded an app provided by my local library so I can borrow ebooks and audiobooks, as we go into a phase of "social distancing". And I have also just placed an order for some real, paperback romances too. thank goodness for books...

Harlequin Books (harlequinbooks) | 2364 comments Mod
I love my library's online ebooks. Sadly, it is struggling financially as so many are. I donate books to them often for their book sales. Actually, I spread my donations around to several communities near us. Guess that will have to stop for a while too.

My husband loves going to estate sales and yard sales. I go along to try to talk him out of more pieces of furniture. He has a hard time passing something old made out of solid wood. I have no place to put another "cool" table or dresser. I buy books and maps. My TBR is extensive. I don't just buy books I like, I get them for the entire extended family. Most return them to me saying I must read them too. I could probably go a couple of years before I ran out of print edition reading material. Then I have my Kindle and Nook...which I've loaded with so many free books, including those I bought with gift cards.... I've tried audiobooks but they just don't work for me. And, I have a Harlequin book allowance...

LOL You see why I need to donate books and can rotate. :) Right before Christmas, I donated about 50 Love Inspired books to my daughter's former Girl Scout troop leader for her church which was looking to start a library for their members. When she dropped off our cookie order, she was so thankful. I love spreading the love of reading romance. :)

Annie Burrows | 257 comments I find audiobooks useful for when I'm on my exercise bike. Exercise is SO BORING, but as I am sitting down a lot of the time, writing, I do try to fit it in, and having a book to listen to while I'm doing it helps me through.

I loved the concept of audiobooks. I even eagerly bought the ipod when they originally came out. My husband's grandmother lost her eyesight and she used to get books on cassettes from the blind association. She loved them. I was so excited. Then I learned, I'm a very visual person so when just listening, my mind tends to wander and then I can't figure out what happened when it comes back to the story. I guess if I was in a dark room and nothing could distract me, it might work. Just doesn't work when I'm doing household chores which is when I really wanted to use my ipod.

message 12: by Annetta (new)

Annetta Sweetko | 1 comments I loved the idea of audio books but ran into a couple of problems. One I haven’t found a cool carrier to put my device in so I can move around while doing housework. The other is if I am sitting and being “read to I tend to fall 💤. I guess I will just stick to books and my kindle.

If I was as motivated as Annie and actually got on my elliptical machine, then I would definitely have the same issue Annetta. The chore I wanted it most for was washing dishes which I hate doing but it is one you don't move around much so I could just put my ipod down on the counter and get to work. Really wish it worked for me cause I need something to make that part of my daily day better! ~ Kim

11 books down Vicki. Woohoo! You're doing great. I remember reading the Harry Potter series. Is this your first time or are you re-reading? And, I love seeing some of the older titles again. The Nocturne covers were some of my favorites. ~ Kim
