As many of you know, this March we as a group, just like the last year, will nominate works for Hugo 2020 and Retro Hugo 1945. The rules are the same as the year ago. One bonus is that this time we will have not one, but two votes, giving our nominees a greater chance.

First Stage
Everyone is eligible to post their personal list (up to 5 nominations) for each category they wish to vote. In order to simplify possible change in rules to more usual one member one nomination per category set the most wanted outcome first, for example:

You like to have 3 novels, you want to nominate and if you have to choose only one you go for Novel#1, so you write:

Best novel
Novel#1
Novel#2
Novel#3

Please nominate only works you have read!

Second Stage
You read other’s list and think that it will be nice to join your lists � it is easy if you have empty categories or at least vacant places (like #4 & #5 in the example above). If you agreed on a new joint list, any of you post it and add that you are a team, listing all team members. This way we can end up with a single group list. If not, we enter

Third Stage
Which is voting, one member one vote for either lists, or if there are too many or other problems, then for works (I guess only novel/novella/novelette/short story), which are #1 in personal nomination lists.

Everyone is able to edit and update their lists before he final vote!

Mar 11th any final decisions
Mar 12th submission

I forgot Children of Ruin: for shame! I've edited my list.

Gabi: Short story collections aren't eligible for Best Novel, so Exhalation can't be nominated. It had two new stories (Omphalos & Anxiety is the etc), so those are eligible.

Are books in translation eligible?

Thanks, Antti, I'll delete it. Then I have to figure out how many words "Anxiety" has (Novelette or Novella).

IIRC, Anxiety is a novella and Omphalos a novelette. I added them to my list, as well.

I don't think Recursion. Blake Crouch was an Amazon writer for a long time and I think that they don't like that

Actually, my thought was that Blake Crouch was originally an Amazon writer, and I didn't think that the Nebula writers would nominate him for that reason. Plus, now that I think about it, I like his books a lot, but I'm not sure that the worldbuilding is that unique or nomination-worthy. I think Hugo more likely

Plus Dark Matter was better in the worldbuilding area.

Yes, it can be the case even if formally denied, there are different fandoms (and I don't mean Puppies now). The novels that got nominated for Hugo are mainly from Tor, Orbit and Saga. For Dragon awards - Baen...

It is just like with Adrian Tchaikovsky - I liked his The Expert System's Brother much more than Walking to Aldebaran, but only 2019 works are eligible.

Hey so I wasn't here for the voting part last year. Can you explain this more? What I'm understanding right now: someone purchased a voting membership on behalf of this group and at the end of this voting period the group submits a single vote (or two this year) based on the results. Am I on the right track?

Yes, Kalin, that is exactly right. We all vote and somebody (Z) counts them up and submits the ballot. Sometime at the beginning of March.

Stranger Things (season three)--No, I don't like season three even as well as season two. And neither was as good as season one. I haven't even gotten all the way through, but I still think it will get nominated.

The Pleasant Profession of Robert A. Heinlein--No, I have not read it--too expensive and the library does not have it. But I want to, and I believe it will be nominated.

Certain things -- like Stranger Things season 3 and Game of Thrones season 8 -- don't deserve to be nominated even if you've run out of alternatives...

Kate, I plan to post my team#2 list later today and I'm ready to add most of your noms to it. One point, more than once you say "I don't like it but still" - no point to fill all noms.

I agree. Later, when we guess what will be nominated is the time that we should use the logic I stated above.

Also, I found another short story I liked, but I don't necessarily think it will make the list because I am sure no one else read it, It's Good Girls go to Heavenby Seanan McGuire. If it makes the list, great, but if not, oh, well
