Jessy (jollybookshelf) Managing a group with many active people can be very time consuming. Luckily, I have the opportunity to moderate the best group on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ! ;) Although they aren't fun, rules are sometimes necessary. If any rules are added, removed, or amended, it will be posted here as well as the announcements.

RESPECT. This group is intended for all ages. Please keep that in mind when discussing books.

SPOILERS. Please use spoiler tags when necessary.

Type the following without the asterisks (*) present (no spaces).
<*spoiler*>This is the text that will be hidden.<*/spoiler*>

WEEKLY. This challenge is intended to be weekly (one book a week for the year 2015). You are welcome to jump ahead or lag behind, but please participate in discussion!

BOOKSHELF. If adding books to our shelf, please say why (what week # it is for). I encourage you to add what you are reading!

TOPICS. Please create topics according to the guidelines listed in weekly introductions. Do not duplicate threads.

Shannon (shannonamelia) | 19 comments How do you add a book to your bookshelf? I am new to this feature on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. Thank you for the rules! :)

Hey Shannon! If you're trying to add books to your personal shelf, just type in the name of the book you're looking for in the search bar on the top of the page. When it comes up, click the green button next to it that says "Want to Read" or hover on the little picture of books next to it and it'll pull up a list of your shelves so you can pick a different one - like books you've already read or books you're currently reading.

Once you have books on your shelves, you can click the link next to the search bar that says "My Books" and it will open your shelves.

Arto | 28 comments Reading order? So I can jump ahead or lag behind, but can I choose Reading order? If I'm not a fond of romance, can I drop it last?

message 5: by Zaz, Mood Minion (new)

Zaz | 1387 comments Mod
Read order is the best way to discuss the books with other members here. Skipping a book will be less challenging, but I promise we won't punish you for this :p
If you want to read in another order you can, the important things are to discover new books and to have fun.

message 6: by Joss (new)

Joss (jossdi) I am new to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and I skipped week one and I am reading war brides for week two.

message 7: by Jessy (new)

Jessy (jollybookshelf) Welcome Joss!!

message 8: by Joanna (new)

Joanna | 2 comments I read my book for week one and just recently listed it as read, but my progress bar hasn't shown any changes. How do I get it to reflect my progress?

message 9: by Zaz, Mood Minion (new)

Zaz | 1387 comments Mod
A book is listed in the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Reading Challenge only when the reading date is added, so verify on your shelves ;)

message 10: by Gwendolyn (new)

Gwendolyn Cayad Does manga comic book count as a book? I'm reading Death Note right now and loving it! If not, does anybody know if there is a book version of this series?

message 11: by Zaz, Mood Minion (new)

Zaz | 1387 comments Mod
For me, a manga or a graphic novel is a book, but can't count for the 500+ pages week for example. Someone wrote a book from the manga: Death Note: Another Note.

message 12: by Gwendolyn (new)

Gwendolyn Cayad Thanks, Zaz. I'm going to look for the book version.

message 13: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 57 comments What is this progress bar that Joanna is asking about? I don't see it on this page, but I love visible signs of progress like that. :) I'd like to add one also.

Look at your "Home" page, you'll have "2015 Reading Challenge" on the right bottom. It's the official Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ challenge: you decide how many books you'll read in a year and each time you mark a book as "read", your bar progresses. The goal is to reach the number you decided, for the 31 december :)
In the app, it's in "More" and "Reading Challenge".

message 15: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments I am doing a similar list in another group, but I decided to join this group too so I can discuss about the books I am reading :) I just finished with "Anne of Green Gables", so I guess I am done with week 37 now :P, but still pending with week 1 :D and I have read so many graphic novels that I am done with week 40 many times :D

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2 comments Hi there

Where do I start. I have just joined this group :)

message 17: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shannonamelia) | 19 comments Hi. Someone tried to answer my question about adding books to your shelves. I meant in reference to YOUR shelves. It was a few posts above me - a caution about doing so. I didn't even know you could add books to a group shelf or where a group shelf was. I was not referring to my personal shelves, but I do thank you.

I join a recent poster in asking how exactly this works - but I'll ask - is there a rule-post setup with all we need to know to participate here? I've browsed, but I may have missed it.

Thanks for any and all help, guys! :)

message 18: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shannonamelia) | 19 comments Never-mind me! I found where I need to go to get the list and fill it in with my choices. :) Thanks!

The bookshelf thing confuses me, but seems irrelevant now.

Sorry for any confusion.

message 19: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2 comments Shannon. Where did you find it? I'm a bit lost as to where to start?

message 20: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shannonamelia) | 19 comments I answered my own questions after I looked around for a while... My initial question formed in this very thread. Someone said something about adding books to the shelves of this group. That was what confused me. I have since found the shelf and get the meaning. For me, it was at the top of the thread. Don't worry about it now, though. Thanks for your time. Really. :-)

Michelle wrote: "Shannon. Where did you find it? I'm a bit lost as to where to start?"

You can find the list of topics HERE

You can then post your own list in the 2015 Plans folder. Click at the top to add a new topic

To go to the group bookshelf you simply start at the group home page. On the right hand side about an inch under the group cover photo is the word bookshelf. :-) Can get to it from there. You can choose what topic you are gonna read it for. DO NOT choose "currently reading" as it will post it automatically to the homepage and we want to keep that looking good. Also, do not choose a date for it. You can choose your week (or even other weeks it would work for) and if it's been read or a to-read.

Hope this helps!!
If you have any other questions, go ahead a message me! :-)

Maryam | 1 comments Hey everyone! I have always used goodreads to find books I liked, but I've downloaded the iPhone app just now and I have accepted the reading challenge for 2015. I have already read 8 books this month and I wanted to ask: how can I add the books that I have already read if I have read them on the kindle app for iPhone?? Thanks in advance!!!

You have to rate the book - the number of stars - and put the date added as well as that you've read it. Then it updates the reading challenge progress bar.

message 27: by Narma (new)

Narma | 49 comments I just saw this group and joined today. Can I skip the first two weeks, and continue from week 3 on?

message 28: by Cait (new)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments Narma, you can jump in wherever you feel like it. You could start with Week 3 and go back and do Weeks 1 & 2 when you've got a chance, or perhaps tack them on at the end of the challenge.

There are some people who are reading through the challenge out of order, but the threads for discussions are being opened in week order, so if you follow the list through in order you'll find it easier to join in on discussions. :-)

So go ahead, jump right in!

Cool thanks! I'm super excited to do this. Kudos to you guys for coming up with such an organized challenge!

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments The group is all down to Jessica & Taylor. :-) It is pretty awesome.

Looking forward to seeing you in the discussions.

message 31: by Jhon (new)

Jhon Jasper Can I check 2 or more boxes at a time?

message 32: by Zaz, Mood Minion (new)

Zaz | 1387 comments Mod
Jhon if you don't have enough time to read 52 books during the year, yes you can use one book for several categories ;)

message 33: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments Really? I thought one should read 52 books, one for each category.

message 34: by Cait (new)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments The way the challenge is being run in this group is that each week you should read a book for each individual category. However that doesn't work for everyone, some people are dipping in and out as they come across books which fit, others are reading books that fit multiple categories.

The main thing is that the challenge is fun and gets you reading in whichever way that works for you. ;-)

message 35: by Kaye (new)

Kaye Wyly | 20 comments I am impressed with those who can decided ahead what book to read each week. I am not that organized. After I finish a book, part of the fun for me is looking over the books in my bookcases, the books piled on top of the books in my bookcases, and the books piled beside my bed...then I decide which one is calling me...I hope I can continue to find a proper category every time I finish a book...I am so enjoying this challenge...but, alas...cannot plan ahead...

message 36: by Amy (new)

Amy Stabenow | 21 comments I'm with you. It wouldn't matter if I'd picked one book in advance, if I wasn't in the mood when the time came, it wouldn't happen. That's why I need to have sooo many books, so I can have just the right one at the right time. Here's to hoping I can manage to read 52 of them that will fit into the appropriate categories.

message 37: by Audra (new)

Audra (audri8301) Hi everyone! I've been working on a challenge with a very similar list on my own for a few weeks, but just thought to look for a group on here. Since I was working through on my own, I'm a little out of order, but this should keep me focused and moving through books. :-)

message 38: by misplacedselchie (new)

misplacedselchie | 347 comments Welcome Audra! I am a little out of order right now too, so don't fret too much over it :)

message 39: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie (lewisia) | 28 comments Hello! I discovered this brilliant challenge a couple of days ago and am so enthused by it. As I'm so late to the party (about 29 weeks late actually) I realise that I won't be able to complete the challenge as it was intended. I'm an avid reader but my spare time is limited and even finishing one book every week is sometimes problematic.

I've read plenty of books this year so far that, whilst obviously not being read 'to order' to fit challenge catagories, can be retrospectively slotted in to the weeks' catagories that have already gone by. Is it acceptable to do that please?

If I start from today on the current category (although I'm not sure which it is and when the category changes) please may I join? I've read people's lists and have found some inspiring choices so even if I don't participate as a true challenger at least I'll have broadened my horizons.

message 40: by Britteny - , Mod Assistant (new)

Britteny - Brittbetweenthepages (brittbetweenthepages) | 194 comments Mod
Absolutely!! This challenge is more about broadening horizons by reading books you normally wouldn't then anything else. If you go to the main page and scroll down, each week's topic is in numerical order so you can look for "Week 29". I believe it's "book set in place you want to visit" or something along those lines. I also think weeks change every Thursday. (Or is it Wednesday? I got off kilter with work and changing jobs and other life stuff lol!)
I hope this helps and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!

Brittany (tinsel hoarding bookdragon) (gamerkiti) Jeanie, first, welcome to the group :) Most people seem to jump around anyways so feel free to just jump in wherever you want to! All of the books you've already read this year you can slot into any week that they fit and just make a "new topic" in that weeks folder and tell us about the book and what you thought about it. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask one of the awesome mods in the group. Just remember the most important thing is to have fun!

Welcome to the group!

I've seen some people go through and pick certain weeks out in order to shorten the challenge to their speed. Just have fun with it :)

(The weeks do change on Thursday)

message 43: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie (lewisia) | 28 comments Thank you Britteny, Brittany and Laura for your welcome and for answering my queries.

When I have a little more time tonight (I'm in UK and it's mid afternoon here just now) I'll spend some time finding my way around the website and print off the category list so I can get myself and my books organised. I live in a rural area and use the library service a lot. They are brilliant at ordering in books that they don't hold in their own stock but need a fair bit of notice to get hold of some of them!

I'm really looking forward to taking part in this challenge with all its treats in store.

message 44: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth ok I have a question, I'm new to the group, so my question is these is , since I'm already doing a challenge like this with a different group should I just start over for this challenge or just add the books that I already read and used for that challenge, and should I set up a book shelf here even though it mid way though the year,

message 45: by Laura, Mod (new)

Laura | 599 comments Mod
As far as counting the books, that's really personal preference. Some people like the "extra" challenge of doing challenges separately but plenty of people also let them count for more than one. So no pressure, just do whatever works for you :)

You can definitely still create a plan and add to the bookshelf!

Happy to have you in the group!!

thinks for answering my question, and I'm going with new books for this challenge , and I'll go set that shelf up. whish I had know about you all at the first of the year I would have used all of my Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ 2015 Reading challenge books.
