We all buy a lot of books but more than half of the time the books end up sitting unread on our shelves. But not anymore... gear up to read each and every book on your bookshelf in order to clear your conscience :)

PS: Take a pic of your shelf and post it below... It'll be great to be able to see each other's bookshelves.

Here's the logo for this challenge:

Titas | 98 comments My book shelf has one row in front of another so I can't show it at once. But I guess the following pics will justify.

LOL, Titas. My bookshelves are also two deep."

It feels like Pandora's box when I just look at the front view :D

A... that's really sweet... Thanks :)
You know what the collection of Crossword is so bad that they don't even keep King's books... Can you believe it?
People in our country really need to get some really hard reality check on their book-tastes!

Although I too prefer Land/Starmark over Crossword for the same reason, on a whole both are same. But actually they are just seller so how can we blame them. There are many people whose first point while buying a book is its size. What good can we expect then? Every time when I visit the stores and find more and more crappy sexy-and-young-funny-life type silly idiotic books full of "Bole to?" or "And then we did it" while not being able to find Robin cook or Stephen King I feel like punching a wall. It may hurt many but it is a truth that Chetan Bhagat and all the MIT/IIT pass-outs thinking 'I can write too' have really brought down the standard of Indian writing (directly or indirectly doesn't matter).

Yea, I second that! I mean who reads all these books! Well I wonder how many Indians are 'real-readers', I think very few and apparantly no one wants to write books for those few (like us) who actually are aware of books of great world authors (not just the very famous ones like Shakespeare, but others like Robin Cook, King, George RR Martin, JRR Tolkien, etc...) I mean I read books and then I realise the only place I can actually talk about them is either on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ or on my blog!
I really feel people here should start reading more, or start reading 'good stuff' that actually accounts to 'good writing.'
I guess you're the only Indian (who lives here) with whom I actually talk about all the books. Otherwise more than half of Indian readers don't even have any idea about some of the best books!
And very well said about Chetan Bhagat and the likes! I mean come-on, write some great fantasy shit that counts as real-writing and then call yourselves WRITERS/AUTHORS!
I hate to admit this but because of people liking Bhagat's every single novel, I doubt that anyone here will even read my fantasy book, if and when it gets out!

This is really true from my side too. Fortunately I've got 1 friend in real life too who has quite some good taste like us. But that dumb bastrd is too lazy to keep an updated goodreads profile :/
But when my girlfriend asks for books like The Stolen and Zero Day for yearly anniversaries or buys Jurassic Park from book fair, I know I've won!

The first and most prominent problem with book by them is that I don't find the point of writing those. If I buy, read and then forget about it as soon as it is over then what is the point of writing/buying/reading it?
description
And the clichés in those are so numb that I feel like peeling my head off. Lets see:
Funny young screwed up friends: check,
Head over heels for a hot and sexy chick: check,
The hottest girl always falls for those dumbs: check,
For no reason they have sex: check,
Life screwed up more: check,
All of a sudden everything works out in last 10 pages: check and
voilà - you have a book in the 'Indian Writing' Sections.
Oh did I tell you that it's gonna cover up all the other books in stores and if it becomes popular then it's gonna be made into a movie too?

Stefani Sloma (stefanisloma) Ooooo. I like this challenge. I made a deal with myself that I won't be buying any more books until I read at least one full shelf on my TBR shelves of books I already own (which is a full three shelves). So I dig this challenge. I'll be participating. Pictures when I get home from work.

They should either stop writing or just kill themselves.

My cousin recently spoke very high of Ravi Subramanian and almost forced me to read If God Was a Banker. I usually like legal thrillers so after 4 hours of time-pass reading I found out that a guy sold out and betrayed his family, friends, ethics and everything over sex with any hot girl he got throughout the whole book and at last when he got caught, within last 5 pages everybody literally said, "We love ya buddy, we forgive ya, lets have happy hugs". And then I almost beat my cousin for wasting 4 hours of my life.

Haha! I'm sorry. I have never put an image into a Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ post (I don't think) and I was trying to figure it out. Decided to try again later and then forgot. Here you go! description
I also created a shelf with all of the physical books I own but haven't read, which you can see here if you are interested: /review/list...

Better late than never ;)
Anyways, please can you change the dimensions of this pic. It's quite small!
And great idea! I guess we all should have a shelf like that on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ :)

So far I've read only one book from my book-shelf:

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

My next read will be:

Stranger in a Strange Land
