Alma (alma64037) | 28 comments Hi to everybody and happy new year! I saw this challenge on tumblr and I found it interesting, so I thought "why not post it here so everyone can see it?" Check it out, let me know if anyone else wants to do this ;)

message 2: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments I'm up for this, I am doing a similar challenge on another group, hopefully I can include books in both challenges.

message 3: by Alma (new)

Alma (alma64037) | 28 comments I do that all the time, combine challenges so I can complete a few with at least half the books repeating themselves in each challenge :)

message 4: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Are you doing this challenge Alma? Its a pretty big challenge so was thinking 18 months to complete?

Anybody else up for doing it?

message 5: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments The link says 'page not found' O_o

message 6: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Working for me.

Will save it and try and add it to the group photos

message 7: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments I have done it for you Tinka. Click on the photos link on the group and you should see the list.

message 8: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments So anybody up for doing it? I think Alma ran away.

message 9: by Tinka (last edited Jan 12, 2015 04:10AM) (new)

Tinka | 495 comments I'm in! So, I guess we post the completed tasks here right?

Completed:

A Graphic Novel:
Fables, Vol. 2 Animal Farm (Fables, #2) by Bill Willingham

message 10: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments I think use this section to discuss the books used in the challenge, I will create a new discussion for putting up the lists.

message 11: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments So we discuss here and add them to the list?

message 12: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Yes I done a list of the books, which you can copy, then just add books to them and tick them off when you have read them. I'll leave my list blank for a while so anybody can just copy that list if they want.

message 13: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments Ah okay :)

message 14: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments How was that fables book? Not heard of that one before. I got my graphic novel from the library at the weekend. The Discworld Graphic Novels: The Colour of Magic & The Light Fantastic and so far I am not impressed, if I had already read the book then this would make no sense at all, the drawings are really good, especially the princess in the chainmail bikini.

message 15: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments Fables is really great, kind of what ABC's Once Upon A Time tries to be I think. Interesting twist on fairytales, great characters and the artwork is fantastic.

Oh, I'd love to read the Discworld Graphic Novels. Terry Pratchett writes such good books, his imagination is just beyond words.

Question, does it count as short stories if I choose a fairytale book? I mean those are technically short stories right?

message 16: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments it's any book with a collection of short stories in it.

message 17: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments I really like once upon a time, I have one episode of once upon a time in wonderland left, it has got to be the worst spin-off ever.

message 18: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments The book I'm starting now is one my Mom loves so I can tick that box...was easier than I expected

message 19: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments So I finished the challenge to read something my Mom loves The World According to Bob The Further Adventures of One Man and His Street-wise Cat by James Bowen and I'm so glad its something I loved too because we kind of have a different taste most of the time

message 20: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Well done Tinka, I think we have that book, my daughter wanted it and then it ended up living on the shelf.

message 21: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Updated my list now, have finished 4 books so far.

message 22: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments Just finished Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde with The Merry Men & Other Tales and Fables (Wordsworth Classics) by Robert Louis Stevenson and since it is over 100 years old I can count it for the challenge so yay

message 23: by Ness (new)

Ness Has anyone found a good way to find authors with their initials? I went through a bunch of lists and couldn't really find anything

message 24: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments That's one of my problems too. Can't find any so far

message 25: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments What's your initials? I was thinking of changing that one to shares first name with you.

Put down your initials here and we can look.

message 26: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments We have for some reason shares the first name in our list, but it actually is 'the same initials'

Btw mine are I.S

message 27: by Ness (new)

Ness Mine are V.M.

message 28: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments I was being cheeky and renamed it to first name as I thought initials would be tough to find.

Ness if you like vampire novels then try this one Blood Diva author is V. M. Gautier, close enough I think. It is a very good book.

message 29: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Tinka wrote: "We have for some reason shares the first name in our list, but it actually is 'the same initials'

Iain Sinclair has some interesting sounding books on London

And

Imelda stark does some erotic books. :)

message 30: by Ness (new)

Ness I'm not really into vampire novels, but I guess I'll take what I can get :)

message 31: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Ness wrote: "I'm not really into vampire novels, but I guess I'll take what I can get :)"

Ah! Ok then, how about crime novels?

Val McDermid is a pretty big author

message 32: by Ness (new)

Ness Val McDermid will do. Thank you :)

message 33: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments Jason you just got a new job as a personal book finder for the group

message 34: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Haha you giving Imelda stark a go then?

message 35: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments No, I was more thinking about Iain Sinclair, except I find something more interesting, but he'll probably do

message 36: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments His books on London do look quite interesting I might have to try one too.

message 37: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Too easy.

Alexander Dumas, the count of monti Christo is a great book and will cross one book off the Gilmore challenge too.

Anna Dale might be more your thing though, not read her before.

Maybe a bit of Sherlock by Arthur Conan Doyle.

message 38: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments ish? It IS Sherlock. Haha crazy woman.

message 39: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments Yeah well...you should find something related to Sherlock there...

message 40: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments So I added Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris to my list under the category 'New Author to You' because I never even heard about David Sedaris before finding this one

message 41: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Hahaha, he created Sherlock, I would check out his author profile and find book 1, they are all really good stories and you may even get hooked, a lot of them are quite short too.

message 42: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments 7th book done. Grundish and Askew awesome book, you should all give it a go, I would like to see how far you get before you are grossed out.

message 43: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments I realized I can use Carrie by Stephen King for the challenge as well since it's the first book King published

message 44: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Yep,ts what I was planning, thought that was why you were reading it.

message 45: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments Jason wrote: "Yep,ts what I was planning, thought that was why you were reading it."

I was originally just reading it for the Rory Gilmore Challenge. I don't know much about Stephen King's publishing history so I had no idea

message 46: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Awesome, didn't know it was in the Gilmore challenge too.

message 47: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 495 comments See? You kill two birds with one stone

message 48: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Interesting, so if I have a big enough stone I could wipe out all birds?

message 49: by Michaela (new)

Michaela (yuvilee) | 158 comments I'm already stuck because i started reading Naked Lunch for the banned book one. It's so difficult to read, i'm already thinking about switching to the german translation... but my pride is stopping me... :D

message 50: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments I have heard it is tough to read, you could try the audio book.
