Me too!! I think it's the black eye/bloody nose, combined with the fact that it looks a bit like Ed Norton ... at least from a distance. :P

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments UGH. I was going to pick this one up while I was at the library today, totally forgot! I'll try to remember next time I'm there!

BRIGID: I agree with the person looking like Ed Norton. At first glance its very much like his character in Fight Club

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I am excited to try my first A. Smith book!

@Bluemoon - I think it's the kinda squinty eyes, haha.

@Heidi - Yaaay I hope you like it! It's my favorite of his so far. :)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Today I went to the library to pick it up, but it was checked out--UGH!

Julie-ann micetich (juliegirl_18) | 1 comments This seems like its going to be a pretty good book. :)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Finally got a copy!

message 12: by Becky (new) - rated it 1 star

Becky | 3 comments This book is on our state award list for 2015. Not overly fond of the cover, but will begin as soon as I finish my Roland Smith book. :)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I don't like the cover much easier but I do like the spine :)

message 14: by Kara (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kara (greathera77) | 30 comments I was going to start winger as soon as I finished Yes Please by Amy Poehler but I left that at work and I'm off today! Ugh, don't you hate that? I guess ill start it today.

Hey I'm also reading Yes Please. ;) Haha I feel your pain; I left one of the books I was reading at college and I've been on break for like a month so I haven't been able to read it. *headsmack*

Hey..."

How are you liking it brigid? Its different from what I was expecting, but I'm enjoying it immensely!

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yay! More takers :)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
That stinks Brigid!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I just picked it up today. I'm super excited to read this. I heard so many good things.

@Kara - I like it, and it's a fun read. The writing is not amazing but it's entertaining at least. :D

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I hope to start the audio after Icefall!

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I just realized it is Jan. 19th already so I need to get moving on this and started the audiobook this morning. Just wanted to warn others that it has cussing and may be a more mature read. That stuff doesn't bother me at all but I know some like warnings about that type of thing :)

message 23: by Brigid (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Ah yeah I probably should've mentioned that––there's a ton of swearing. XD

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I don't mind it Brigid. I am a little over an hour into the audiobook and like it a lot so far.

message 25: by Brigid (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
I'm not bothered by it either, so I sometimes forget to warn others. :P I'm glad you're liking it, though!

I actually finished Winger a few days ago, but I haven't been able to get on goodreads until today. Classes just started for me this week and I have been really busy. Anyway, Brigid I have to thank you for choosing to read this book because I think it's my new favorite book of all time. I really enjoyed it.

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yay Gabrielle!! I am really enjoying it so far and if it continues will have to go on a Andrew Smith readathon immediately! I am getting a kind of John Green smart ass kind of vibe from this and like it. I like it a lot.

@Gabrielle - Classes just started for me this week, too. Ahhh you're welcome, I'm glad you loved it so much! :D

@Heidi - I'm happy you're liking it, too. :) Andrew Smith is great, and I need to read more of his books. Yeah I kinda see the John Green comparison but I'm a much bigger fan of Smith's style ... seems more believable to me, maybe? Like in terms of the narration and dialogue and whatnot.

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I agree Brigid. It flows nicely.

*b*l*u*e*m*o*o*n* | 986 comments Mod
I was thinking of skipping this book, but it seems like a lot of people enjoyed it. Maybe I'll try it.

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I like it so far Bluemoon

*b*l*u*e*m*o*o*n* | 986 comments Mod
Maybe I'll check it out. It must be good if both Brigid and Heidi are liking it

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I am about 45% into this one and love it so far. I just know something bad is about to happen though and don't want it to!

message 34: by Brigid (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
You should, Bluemoon! :D And I'm glad you love it Heidi––I thought you might. ;)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 123 comments I just finished it and I liked it. I had some issues with it that I am sure with the audiobook wouldn't stand out so much but overall I enjoyed it. I have to say though John Green still takes first place in teenage boy p.o.v. in my opinion but I am interested in reading more of Smith. I think at the moment I have had enough ball sack references though ;)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Hahaha he does talk about balls a lot! Glad you are back to reading Jaimie! The audiobook narration is great so far.

*b*l*u*e*m*o*o*n* | 986 comments Mod
I'll keep it on my mind...^_^

message 38: by Brigid (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Lol yeah um, Andrew Smith really does love to refer to penises/balls quite often––seems to be a running theme in all his books (the ones I've read, anyway). But idk maybe that's what teenage boys think about...? :P

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I think is is pretty accurate to what 14 year old boys think but I am an old lady!

Jaimie (jaimier) | 123 comments Yes I am sure it is how teenage boys think! I'm just not sure I want to hang out inside a teenaged boy's mind for too long a time, at least a so accurate portrayal of one

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
hahaha - I can see that Jaimie. I want to smack him sometimes!

*b*l*u*e*m*o*o*n* | 986 comments Mod
hahahahaha...omg ladies. I was so confused on what we were talking about until I saw Brigid's comment.

I agree. Hormonal 14-year old. Enjoying the book so far at 300 pages with all the self-deprecating humor. The repetitive "I am such a loser" really bugged me at first but getting used to it. I cracked out a laugh at the Gatorade incident. Can't wait to finish it!

message 44: by Brigid (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Heh heh yes the Gatorade ... ;)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I just passed the Gatorade part. I was squirming during that one.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I know I'm late to the party, but I will be starting this today!

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
It is still Jan Jenny so you are not late! I love it so far. I have about 1.5 hours of the audiobook left.

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I am finished. Not sure what to think about that ending. It didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book and seemed quick to me but I still really really liked the book as a whole and will give another book by him a try soon.

I also wanted to mention that the audiobook narrator did a great job and even explained all the cartoons well. I still don't get all the "scales" he used to judge things in life but I just went with it. I will miss Ryan Dean.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I'm on page 138, and loving this read so far! I see the comparison to John Green, but so far I like this better!

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Glad I was not the only one with the Green comparison in my mind.
