Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Well we have the Just watched thread, but now there are now so many ways to listen to things, above and beyond radio to podcasts and audiobooks. Therefore I've created this thread who love to listen to things.

Welcome aboard.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Can't hear you.... shout a bit louder :-)

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I'm currently listening to We're Alive! Although this appears at the start to be another Zombie story, it's a lot better than that. They are not like The Walking Dead, where the laws of physics are set to one side. This is more like mutation than zombie.

Really good production values are used thoughout and are very much in the style of really good radio serials.

You can pick up the the episodes from .

You can also download them via your favourite Apple or Android podcast software. I use Downcast on my iPad.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Good idea for a thread - I listen to Radio 4 extra quite a bit when I'm working on the computer/scrapbooking or whatever of an evening. They've been doing Cadfael books lately, which are a good listen.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8586 comments I haven't found a radio station yet that doesn't eventually make me so cross I have to turn it off. There might be one on digital but as that doesn't work here apart from very badly in the furthest corner of the least used room I haven't really explored the possibilities.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments If you are looking for radio content then search BBC podcasts. There are loads of them, Karen.

Have a look at Witness. It is a BBC World Service broadcast. About 10 minutes covering all sorts of diffuse subjects including Donald Campbell's crash, a piece on Jimi Hendrix, The fall of Singapore, The first World Trade Centre Attack, etc, etc.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12474 comments Just finished listening to Absolute 90's (my favourite radio station, I don't normally like radio because there is too much talking /adverts ) on my new Sonos. Happy bunny. I have a similar problem Rosemary, that's why I had to get a Sonos, analogue radio gets 3 channels, digital only works in one room.

Ooh! Heads over to iPlayer... bugger. :(

It was ages ago.

I'm still listening to Good Omens from Christmas and loving it :)

And also catching up on some of last year's Big Finish Dr Who stories. :)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments this week radio 4 have been serialising The Corrections which I haven't read, but the episode I heard was good, so now will be catching up!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Argh, I'm down to the last three episodes of We're Alive! On the one hand I can't wait to find out how it concludes, as it's been such a great story, on the other hand I don't want it to end. Oh, the dichotomy.

message 11: by Karen (last edited Jan 16, 2015 11:55AM) (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Still havent caught up with The Corrections (which probably says something as I didn't read the book either...) but I did catch up with the Lestrade memoirs, 'The Rivals'

which were simple but great fun - and I was doing something else at the time
(actually I was doing a jigsaw from Christmas but didn't like to admit it, cos it sounds a bit weird...)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I've been listening to Rhythm of Life by The Prodigy a fair bit this week.

Awesome tune.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Has anyone been listening to the book of the week on Radio 4 this week? Reaching Down the Rabbit Hole by Dr Allan H Ropper and Brian D Burrell. Here is the synopsis:

Neurologist Dr Allan H Ropper and his co-writer Brian D Burrell take us behind the scenes at the Harvard Medical School's neurology unit. Dr Ropper's case studies include the unusual, sometimes bizarre, and often moving stories of life-changing injuries and illness.

"In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," says Ropper, "Alice jumps into a rabbit hole and finds herself in a bizarre realm where everything bears little relation to the outside world. It is a place where, as the Red Queen mentions to Alice, it helps to believe six impossible things before breakfast. I have no need to believe six impossible things before breakfast because I know that on any given day I will be confronted with six improbable things before lunch..."

Read by Colin Stinton

The link is here:

Absolutely riveting.

I love the Ghost Train, once saw an amateur dramatic version of it. Very good. Written by Arnold Ridley, who played Mr Godfrey in Dads Army.

Should have looked at the link first, where all is revealed as it's being shown as part of a Dads Army tribute, by the looks of it.

I bet that was good fun!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments It was David. When we lived in Birmigham our flat was over the road from a little theatre. We saw lots of productions over there, all really well performed.

Anita, download the BBC iPlayer app. Many radio programmes are now kept for 28 days.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Following on from my previous post regarding the little theatre, they once did a version of Born in the Garden which was absolutely brilliant. A few weeks later it was shown on the BBC as a play and was nowhere near as good.

That's brilliant, Geoff. I used to watch quite a lot of theatre, both amateur and professional, and I think it's magical.

It must be the only sports programme good enough to listen to at the live event! :-)

How about live mime?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That too.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Apparently there was someone who used to do live juggling on radio!

I'm always amazed at what you can find at poundland these days. A David Hasslehoff biography, the third man, 12 tubes of superglue for a quid. You name it, they've got it.
