[2021] Keep it Simple (KIS) or Bring it on (BIO) Group Collab List

A book from the Are You Well Read in World Literature list
A non-fiction book other than biography, autobiography or memoir

KIS - read a book whose title has the words: you, me, I, us, we, her, him, she, he, them, they, mother, father, son, daughter, wife, husband, sister, brother, etc.
KIS - include possessive nouns
BIO - read a book where the referential person is not a possessive noun (i.e. read "The Girl" rather than "The Girl's Book")
BIO - read a book where the title doesn't reference the standard familial names or gender (don't use wife, mother, son, boy, man, girl, woman, etc.)
A non-fiction book other than biography, autobiography or memoir
KIS - read a non-fiction about a group of people rather than one person
KIS - read a non-fiction that isn't marketed as biography, autobiography, or memoir, even if it focuses on one person. Examples - Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup (you could view it as a book about the company Theranos, not about Elizabeth Holmes), Catch Me If You Can: The True Story of a Real Fake (co-writer was "telling a story not writing a biography")
BIO - read a micro-history, self-help book, how-to book, history book, geography book, science or technology book, etc.
KIS for short book can be a book of poetry or short stories
BIO for Black Authors list is to pick an author you've never read before.
BIO for cross genre is to have it be a cross of at least three different genres (fantasy historical romance, for example).

1. A winner or nominee from the 2020 ŷ Choice Awards
2. A book set in a made-up place

-- Use only debut authors or authors you have never read before
-- Use only winners
-- Use only books that were not on your radar before they popped up in the awards lists
BIO idea for made-up place:
-- The entire world must be made up (e. g. Westeros, Middle Earth, Dune), not just the town/city/country (Castle Rock, St Mary Mead, Miskatonic University)
KIS idea:
-- The location can be real, only the place where the story is mainly set must be made up (e. g. a college/university, agency, store, high school, borough...)

A book connected to ice
I am curious how we can BIO this one up.

A book connected to ice
I am curious how we can BIO this one up."
I was thinking that KIS could refer to anything cold or wintery, where BIO has to include ice specifically in some manner (like what Conny said above). Like in Smilla's Sense of Snow where the main character goes walking over the frozen waves of the ice-covered harbor, or The Endurance about the ship trapped in antarctic ice.

Use a synonym like cat for kitten
Any word in the song is found in the title
BIO for Building
Exclude House since it’s so common in titles
Use a proper name of a building

A book related to a word given by a random word generator*
A book that features siblings as the main characters
A book that might cause someone to react “You read what?!?

- a book that actually causes someone to react "you read what?!?" or some variation of that
BIO for A book that features siblings as the main characters:
- a book where both siblings have a narrative voice in the story (ex: alternating perspectives)

KIS: Generate several random words and then pick a book that relates to one of the words
KIS: Choose a book related to the list of random words on this prompt: /topic/show/...
BIO: Choose multiple random words and then choose a book that fits all of them

These are all great suggestions Irene. I will add them to the main list later today. Thanks!

BIO: A book with a female villain or criminal who is NOT the primary antagonist"
A book that you consider comfort reading
KIS: A book you expect to make you smile or laugh
KIS: Any book by your favorite author or in your favorite genre
KIS: A children's book
A collection of short stories, essays, or poetry
KIS: Read just one or two excerpts from a larger collection
Also, I think "A book with a female villain or criminal who is NOT the primary antagonist" would be KIS for me.

I totally get it! For me, all the books that immediately came to mind were books where the primary antagonist/murderer/villain were women, so it felt more difficult for me to find a book that has a female criminal/villain who is secondary (just because it'd be less apparent from blurbs and stuff since they might not be important enough to be mentioned).
Maybe it's more KIS for readers who read books first then fit them into prompts, but BIO for people who pre-plan all the books they want to read (like me). Glad it can go both ways!

A book with an ensemble cast
A book with six or more words in the title

BIO: a book with exactly six words in the title
BIO: a book with six or more words in the title, excluding subtitles
Sarah wrote: "A book with six or more words in the title:

I would think the KIS would be to include subtitles. The standard would be 6 words or more, not including subtitles, as I think that was the intent. The BIO could be exactly 6. Almost every nonfiction book these days has a subtitle, often a long one.

I submitted this prompt, and my original intent was to include subtitles. But I can see how it could go either way! :)
That's fine, then Sarah, you're the expert! I think I confused it with a prompt from one of our Readathons or Seasonal Challenges.

I am honestly not sure if that is KIS or BIO either, but it's a great idea, so I'm just going to plug it into the list as it and let people do what they will with it :-)
