BIO the first three words of the book are "in the beginning"

Am I the only one who is upset that the well read in world literature list has Canadian authors on it? I don't consider Margaret Atwood or Anne of Green Gables world literature. So I was thinking a BIO option would be a translated work from the list.

I think that would depend on where you are located to begin with and what your reading experience is. For me, I am in the US but up until maybe 3 years ago I had not read any Canadian authors (other than Anne of Green Gables). I was shocked and a bit upset with myself that I had such a huge hole in my reading. I immediately set out to read an author from each Canadian province and territory. From there I set out to read authors from each of the Australian States/Territories and have now moved on to authors born in every country in the world. I think reading "wordly" means including every country, no matter how close or how far. That said, I am so far into my around the world challenge at this point, I almost 'have" to go with a translated work, which does not break my heart at all :-)

That's a fair point. I just seems weird to me to exclude USA and Britain, when Canada is totally a part of that same tradition. I (thought I) read pretty widely so I might have a skewed view of it. Some of my favorite authors are "international", Salman Rushdie, who writes in English, and Haruki Murakami who does not. I'm also working on reading the Booker and Man Booker winners lists which include a number of authors from former British colonies.

I'm Canadian. In high school, we had Can Lit and World Lit - and the World Lit was mostly American books, so it's all in how you look at it.😁
