I know the book was set as a historical romance or even a historical regency romance. So. It all involves a lady who comes from America, she has money, and I believe she was with her father. She ends up marrying a bloke that lives in town but has a house in the country. They, the lady, her dad, and now her new husband, all visit the property and find that they need to renovate it. The husbands mistress doesn't live to far in the country. The wife looks into why the country estate is falling in disrepair and learns that the manager is taking funds from the estate. Accidents start happening to the wife.

The husband thinks it is the mistress because the husband has broken off with the mistress and has decided to be a true husband. Come to find out it is the estate manager that is causing these accidents.
