Kelly | 3912 comments lol you're not crazy or I guess I'm a bit crazy too since I started tracking my books in a spreadsheet to have an excuse for listening to an audiobook ^^ But yeah I do wish they would give us the info they have

Yeah, I'd love some of this info because certain publishers it seems like no one I know gets approved

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 1993 comments I'm going to try and use connections to get more.

When I was sent The Dead and the Dark ARC it came directly from St. Martin's press through email and gave me a netgalley link in the email. So now I'll search directly for St. Martin's press and I'll email them the one's I've requested or if I got rejected. For example, I got rejected for Namesake so I emailed just to ask if there was a possibility and they sent me a google doc to fill out. Not guarenteed but still promising

Here's the google doc:

Also, I got Lava Red Feather Blue from Central Avenue Publishing and then a member of the publishing team has been sending emails when the books are published and I responded to the email letting her know that I posted the book cover to my bookstagram even though I haven't read it yet. Then in another auto email they were letting me know about another new release The inkeepers daughter so I just asked for a copy and she sent me one! So I'll prob search NetGalley for Central Avenue publishing too now that I've built a relationship

You should check the email you have linked to NetGalley periodically to see if you have any emails. Even "newsletter" "publish date" emails might lead to further connections

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 1993 comments Oh and check the back of the ARCS because on the last page of the Brambles ebook there was a link to sign up as an early reviewer, I signed up for it so now I'm on a preferred list for the next one after Thorn and she sent me her other indie published books

Kelly | 3912 comments I'm done with my spreadsheet of my Netgalley arcs and it turns out that Bloomsbury and Simon & Schuster never accepted any of my requests (8 and 23...) so I'm going to stop completely requesting their books :/

I also saw that Houghton, Macmillan Children, Macmillan Tor/Forge, Penguin YA are pretty much the same as the two above.

Berkley, Blackstone and Entangled are so-so around 40% of approval.

Inkyard, Bold Strokes, Kensington, Orbit, Random House, St Martin are my BFFs (between 84-100%)

Ooo we should do a shared spreadsheet! That way we all know who doesn’t approve who

Kelly | 3912 comments Alaina wrote: "Ooo we should do a shared spreadsheet! That way we all know who doesn’t approve who"

I'd love that (but I suck at making shared ss)! I didn't use to pay much attention as to who is the publisher behind a book so now I'll be able to manage my expectations better when requesting.

Alaina (ameserole) | 79616 comments Mod
Yikes, okay, I just did mine.. it's all kinds of awkward and I need to stop requesting arcs from a lot lol.

So, it looks like I should stay very far away from the following:
Disney Book Group
Sourcebooks Fire
Macmillan-Tor/Forge
Berkley Publishing Group
Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children's Book Group
Macmillan Children's Publishing Group
Inkyard Press
HarperCollin's Children's Books

**I only added publishers where I had 10+ rejections and only got approved like 1 time from them lol**

It also looks like I have about a 50/50 chance at getting books by Random House Children's.

I also would most definitely get a book from the following:
Entangled Publishing LLC,
St. Martin's Press
HarperCollins UK
Harper Audio

Here is the spreadsheet that I worked on. I didn't do a lot of math because my brain was tired over the weekend. It still is lol.

EDIT: lmao I should probably add the link

message 224: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 3912 comments I love the "a stupid chapter thing" ^^ Mine looks like that too, I just added a column with the approval ratio. I also made a spreadsheet with my pending requests with the approval ratio next to the publishers name to see which one I would probably get or be denied

LMAO thanks I added that because seeing those made me angry all over again because when I requested the book NetGalley didn't state that it was a stupid chapter and not the whole book. I was livid when I opened them.

haha you're welcome! I hate samplers.. they make me so angry. Also, yes, I did do that. I feel like I'll do a big update over the weekend and add a tab for pending and updated approved, reviewed, and rejected as well.

Aly (alyp_01) | 28727 comments Mod
Okay I didn't go through all my books but I got a big sample I think.

I'm likely to get a book from Random House Children's, Wattpad, and Harper Audio.

50/50 from St. Martin's and Entangled.

I've never been approved for Harper Collin's Children, Simon & Schuster, and Inkyard (of the 120 I went through)

Inkyard says they require a blog of 6+ months with 1000 followers and that's not happening so I'll quit trying for them.

Harper Collins has rejected me at least 39 times so fuck them LOL

I definitely don't have a blog of 6+ months with 1000+ followers that I know of ahah but I guess I'm just very lucky with them (requested 12, accepted 12)

HarperCollins Children surprised me but not in a good way

I requested it and got it. If you request it give me your NetGalley email address because I have developed a relationship with the publisher and I can shoot her a quick email that you requested it and that we read ARCs together so she can approve you.

I desperately want this book. I'm counting on it going onto Netgalley since I have a great approval percentage (89%) from Sourcebooks Casablanca.
