SOLVED: Children's/YA > SOLVED. Sci-fi short story, possibly YA. Sharing ideas is taboo. Read in 1990s.

Jess Mandeville | 8 comments I read a short story in a sci-fi anthology in the 90s. It might have been YA, purely because the story I remember was set in a classroom. In the book the teacher was teaching history I think and the female protagonist started giving her opinion. The teacher kissed her so she'd stop talking. In their reality, sharing your body with someone was fine, but you only shared your mind/opinions/thoughts with people close to you as your mind was what makes you who you are, whereas bodies are more or less the same.

Any ideas please. This has been bugging me for years

Jess, glad you found your short story "Do You Want My Opinion?" by M.E. Kerr. Was it in the book mentioned by Andy - Sixteen: Short Stories by Outstanding Writers for Young Adults by Donald R. Gallo?
