Ashleigh Motbey (ashybear02) | 144 comments Someone told me that Pestilence is a heavy metal song haha, so I'm rolling with it.

message 102: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 1 comments I ended up reading The Deep by Rivers Solomon for this, which was really good and the connection between the song (by clipping.) and the book is fascinating in and of itself. Rivers Solomon is also a black author, which has been a priority of mine to read more of this year.

Barbara (soulflame1) | 60 comments I saw Go Ask Alice on this list. That is not the name of the song. The song's name is White Rabbit; "go ask Alice" is just a line in the song, but many people mistakenly call it that.

Jenn Neely (jennersmecom) | 50 comments I just finished reading Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas, and when I googled it, I realized it was also the name of a Wyclef Jean hip-hop song. So, this was a surprise prompt for me! I was going to use this book for a book that was published in 2021. However, I'm sure I'll read another 2021 book this year, so I will wait on that prompt.

This is a prequel to Angie Thomas's The Hate U Give. It is an exploration of Black manhood and boyhood. Maverick Carter, a 17 year old boy, that lives in Garden Heights learns what it takes to take care of a family. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I would definitely recommend this book and The Hate U Give.

I love that song, and have made the mistake of calling it Go Ask Alice too. Also, there is a book called White Rabbit which does work and I highly recommend. White Rabbit by Caleb Roehrig

Also, I literally have been staring at a book on my dresser for about two months not realizing it fits this prompt. Seven Devils (Seven Devils, #1) by Laura Lam Seven Devils is the title of a song by Florence and the Machine which is one of my favorite artists. So, yea, lots of choices. Contemporary especially seems to have a habit of having titles that match song titles.

Oh man, I *just* read Just for You to my son last night - it's on the Book Riot list.... but somehow I don't think it's quite long enough to qualify for our challenge. 😂

message 107: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (soulflame1) | 60 comments I am currently reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami for this prompt.

message 108: by Ryann (new)

Ryann Watt | 2 comments You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson (song by Billie Eilish)

message 109: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 600 comments I read Our House. The premise was more interesting than the book.

message 110: by Laureen (new)

Laureen | 16 comments I read Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore (also a Martina McBride song). The book was ok but very sad

message 111: by Laura (new)

Laura (agirlnamedstu) | 24 comments I read With or Without You, which shares it's title with a U2 song.

message 112: by Alex (new)

Alex Richmond | 65 comments I think I made it nearly halfway through Radio Silence by Alice Oseman before it dawned on me it was a Styx song!

Also, thank you to this thread for reminding me of The Female of the Species, which is a song I used to love and haven't listened to in yeeeears

message 113: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments Whenever I finished a book and didn't have a matching prompt for it, I plugged the title into Spotify to see if anything would come up. My winner was The Huntress.

message 114: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Lipps | 3 comments Curious what folks think of counting Kafka on the Shore for this prompt. I'm reading it right now, and there's a fictional song in the book called "Kafka on the Shore."

IMO, that would not count -- except that a song was recorded using Murakami's lyrics from the book, so it seems to fit in this case!

Oh, very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I didn't realize someone had turned it into a real song!

Elspeth (elspethm) | 29 comments Lolo wrote: "I'm going to read Indigo by Beverly Jenkins. Numerous artists have songs named Indigo. I like the song by NIKI."

I read that book last year. It was really good.

Elspeth (elspethm) | 29 comments Theresa wrote: "Midnight Blue by Simone van der Vlugt - historical fiction
Same as Melissa Manchester's hit song Midnight Blue."

also, the lead singer of Foreigner had a hit with his solo song Midnight Blue - I really liked that song!

Elspeth (elspethm) | 29 comments Sandra wrote: "I am reading the Bridgerton series, and one is called "It's in his Kiss"."

I'm doing a lot of challenges this year and those books fell into a lot of prompts :)

message 120: by Elspeth (new)

Elspeth (elspethm) | 29 comments I read Brown Girl in the Ring for this prompt, but I had a lot of other options.

It's a traditional song but of course I remembered it for the Wiggles version ;)

message 121: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debzanne) | 165 comments Currently reading (Don't You) Forget About Me, which is a creepier book than I anticipated. It reminds me a little of We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, but with an odd addition of a secluded village and a little magical realism / apocalyptic feel. Every other chapter is a flashback chapter with a title of a different song, too, so it kind of takes this category to a whole other level.

message 122: by Jacqie (new)

Jacqie I read "Blood on the Tracks" by Barbara Nickless for a mystery book club I'm in and I'm counting that, since that's also the title of Bob Dylan album and that's close enough for me!

message 123: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 31 comments i have so many that would work for this but I'm going to go with So Over You by Gwen Hayes. I've never heard the song by Auburn but it's pretty fun.

Rashi (The Reading Platter) (thereadingplatter) Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
Turning Point by Jeffery Deaver

message 125: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 263 comments I read Malorie for this prompt, which is the same title as a song written/performed by Billy Paul released in 1975.

message 126: by Erin (new)

Erin Cundiff | 1 comments I just finished Creep by Jennifer Hillier for this prompt. The irony... the song was actually referenced in the book.

I'm thinking about reading this for "magical realism" - do you think it fits?

message 129: by Britany (last edited May 25, 2021 07:04PM) (new)

Britany | 1650 comments Definitely! I thought about swapping it for the Midnight Library since it FELT like a stretch for magical realism, but ended up just leaving it and fitting this in here.

I wonder if anyone else moves things around later in the challenge.

message 130: by Diana (last edited Jun 06, 2021 03:47PM) (new)

Diana (candystripelegs) | 242 comments I wound up reading Nothin' But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the '80s Hard Rock Explosion, which was an interesting read and the title comes from an old Poison song. I already knew about some of it, but there were definitely some stories I had never heard. It's pretty good for any one that grew up in or just curious about that era.

The format is a little different. It's not really linear and organized around various interviews, so it would also fill the "Book in a Different Format" prompt.

It was also published this year, so it would fill "A Book Published in 2021" too.

message 131: by Angela (last edited Jun 09, 2021 11:17AM) (new)

Angela (skiesclear) I'm going to read A Thousand Ships. There is a song by Natalie Platten called 1,000 ships, and for me that's close enough.

message 132: by LeahS (last edited Aug 09, 2021 02:18AM) (new)

LeahS | 473 comments I also read a Silicon Valley book Uncanny Valley by Anna Wiener. The song is Uncanny Valley by Dan Wilson.

message 133: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 247 comments I started reading I Don't Forgive You by Aggie Blum Thompson. Then I realized that I misremembered the song 'I Won't Forgive You' by Words Like Wildfire. I'm gonna continue listening to this book, I guess this works as well.

poshpenny | 1916 comments I happened to see a Kazuo Ishiguro book with the same title as a song I like!

Come Rain or Come Shine

The version of the song I like: Joe Williams and Count Basie

message 136: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) I was looking through the books I read this year so far and found one named as A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena. So I'm adding this one.

message 137: by Beth (new)

Beth | 39 comments The Wee Free Men, Wintersmith, and The Good Witch were Terry Pratchett books and Steeleye Span songs on their Wintersmith album. I think all of the titles on the album are inspired by Discworld.

message 138: by Bouchra (new)

Bouchra Rebiai (bouchrarebiai) | 16 comments Does The Catcher in the Rye work for this? Apparently, there's a song called Catcher in the Rye -
