Introductions Re-Boot!

thank you ... I got started with the Rosalind Thorne series: quite enjoyable, no gross anachronisms, but I'm not sure I like those veeeeeeery slooooooooow burning side romances, in particular triangles. It reminds me of C.S. Harris' St. Cyr series - which I dropped somewhere in the middle, frustrated by yet another implausible about-face in the backstory - but at least Harris got rid of the triangle entanglement (trianglement?) by times. - Solid 2.5 star entertainment so far; I don't ask for more in a heat wave.

She makes her decision. The triangle doesn't drag on too long but the romance is slow burn. You have to remember that one choice will restore her to her rightful place in Society, everything she was raised to expect would come to her. The other choice would lead to the opposite - putting her way down the social ladder and possibly ostracized from Polite Society.
Kat Holloway is driving me crazy pushing Daniel away! He's sooo swoony! I have a soft spot for the rogues.
I am reading the new book by Dianne Freeman A Newlywed’s Guide to Fortune and Murder
. I always enjoy visiting with George and Frances. Rose is growing up and they still haven't taken their honeymoon yet. Good fun.

I'm enjoying this series as well.

I'm enjoying this series as well.

Love that series, especially Fran and George's relationship. I was glad Fran's family FINALLY left. They drove me crazy! That cover cracked me up! Like Fran, I waffled on who I thought did it and only guessed at the VERY last second.

A kiss as early as volume 5 - you call that slow burn?? LOL

Ty, it's been an experience. But it's evolving into something I hadn't planned. I hope that's a good thing! lol.

I'm looking forward to reading at least the monthly reads with you all. Although, I may not have time for this months.
Nice to meet you all. :)

I'd love to explore more authors so I'm glad to be here.

Thanks for the tip, Helen. I'll certainly have a look.

Merry Christmas, I hope you all enjoyed it your own cozy way.
Now that I have some time post-Christmas rush, I'm starting Doherty (a bit late). :)
Enjoy your after-holiday reads!

As for me, I'm retired and health issues keep me pretty sedentary. I've noticed several recommendations in this thread, and am pretty happy about that.

So far, I'm mainly drawn to the Regency or Victorian era, but also happy to try other time periods. And I love good romantic subplots, but not so much that it's more historical romance than historical mystery.
(What led the goodreads algorithm to recommend historical mysteries to me in the first place, was my love for Kelley Armstrong's A Rip Through Time - modern day detective ends up in Victorian Scotland -, and I also love the urban fantasy genre. So, I'd also be open to genre-blending books with some sort of fantastical element added in, as long as the main focus is still on the historical mystery aspect.)

Welcome Chrissy!

I love Regency and Victorian too. I'm looking forward to An Art Lover's Guide to Paris and Murder and Murder at Vinland. My favorite Regency series was Stephanie Barron's Jane Austen mysteries. No one else writes convincingly in Jane's voice.

For now, in a probably futile attempt to budget and not start buying another super long series (because I'm a total binger, completely unable to pace myself), I've started reading The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies. Only a few chapters in, but enjoying it so far. :)

Me too! Female sleuth, Victorian era = right up my alley! I'll have to see if it is something I would like to read.

I like historical+romance+mystery and have a general alignment with the UK aesthetic, vs. the American one. This summer I discovered Ann Swinfen and read all the Bookseller of Oxford series and Cristobel Alvarez and loved them both. Dipped into the Roger Chapman series, too.
I read a lot, and am looking for folx who have a shared aesthetic to add to my friends list for ideas, too.
I’ve enjoyed Tana French and the nordic noirs, midsomer murders and Shardlake.

My name is Pippa. I'm an avid reader of anything historical (including non-fiction). I'm currently immersing myself in historical mysteries , having dabbled round the edges for a while.
I'm excited to find this group and get some recommendations for page-turning reads in this genre.
Looking forward to the chat.
Pippa

Hello *waves*,
I started with the Tudors and the Shardlake series, but then moved on to the Georgians, and now the Victorians via gothic (Laura Purcell). Not sure if it's exactly mystery but loved

Indeed, I'm looking for recommendations for great historical mystery authors - preferably 19th century.
Thank you for the welcome!
Pippa

... I'd rather think I'll stop before the Wollstonecraft Detective Agency: let's do the time warp again? no thanks. BTW, didn't Byron have just one surviving child, Ada Lovelace née Byron? - or was that only one legitimate child?
