Week 13: a book set in a different country
March 26 - April 1, 2015

It's time to discover new countries. Would you succeed to travel around the world in 7 days? Maybe not, so just one country will be fine ;)


How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.

2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?

3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.

4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!

**If you chose the same book as another group member for the same week, do not create a duplicate thread.**

This is the week I'm most excited about so far! I'm going to Indonesia.

I'm promoting Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) by Jose Rizal. It's set in the Philippines and it's really good.

I've wanted to go to New Zealand my whole life, so I think I'll choose a book from there for this week, if anybody has a good suggestion...

Hi Sophie! I've always wanted to go there too. It so happens two of my favorite authors are from there! I am not sure if they are your cup of tea, but you can check them out:

Katherine Mansfield - I suggest The Garden Party and other stories. Important Modernist short story writer from NZ, book is on "1001 Books To Read Before You Die" list if you care about that! The Garden Party and Other Stories

Janet Frame - I suggest An Angel At My Table, second volume in her highly regarded three volume autobiography considered a masterpiece of memoir. Frame grew up on a farm in NZ and was a shy, sensitive artist who ended up being mistakenly diagnosed as schizophrenic and institutionalized. An Angel at my Table

Well, I'm taking a gothic lit class this semester, so rather than add on another book to this time period (right before finals), I'll just use the book I'll be finish up during this week for the class: Caleb Williams by William Godwin. It looks like it's set in England. I had been hoping to find a fantasy or sci-fi novel set pretty much anywhere but the US, but this makes life much easier on me. :)

I am planning on Anna Karenina. Wish me luck! lol

I'm deciding between Wave, Secret Daughter, and Skeletons at the Feast

I guess I'll choose when the week comes, unless anyone as some feedback for any of them!

I picked up Tara Road at the library to read. So I'm off to Ireland!
