Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2145 comments What book about the Tudors or Tudor England would you like to have as our Group Read in July 2021?

If it's in a series, can it be easily read as a stand-alone? If not, you might want to nominate the first book in the series, or the most recent book in it the group has not read together.

Can't remember what we've already read as a group? (Sometimes I can't, either.) There's a "group-reads" shelf on the group's Bookshelf.

Two nominations to a person, please.

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 154 comments I will nominate Bess of Hardwick First Lady of Chatsworth, 1527-1608 by Mary S. Lovell and Catherine of Aragon An Intimate Life of Henry VIII's True Wife by Amy Licence .

William Whalen | 68 comments Hello,

And now for something completely different. I nominate The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next, #1) by Jasper Fforde by Jasper Fforde, the first book in the Thursday Next series. Now, you're probably asking how in the world a Science Fiction book set in 1985 could possibly qualify for a Tudor read. I was 2/3rds of the way through the book before it occurred to me that this would make a good book club read. While the focus is on Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë by Charlotte Brontë and Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens by Charles Dickens, a Shakespeare Vs. Bacon debate wanders throughout the book. And the presentation of Richard III by William Shakespeare is to die for. As a alternative, if this is rejected as a nomination, I offer Erasmus and the Age of Reformation by Johan Huizinga by Johan Huizinga. My second nomination is Henry the Prince Who Would Turn Tyrant by David Starkey aka Henry Virtuous Prince by David Starkey by David Starkey.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2145 comments I have read and really enjoyed the entire Thursday Next series, but I'm going to say The Eyre Affair just isn't "Tudor enough" - sorry, William.

Antonietta | 33 comments I will nominate " Young and Damned and Fair" by Gareth Russell and " The virgin Widow" by Anne O'Brien

message 7: by Christine (new)

Christine Hartweg | 47 comments I'd like to nominate John Dudley The Life of Lady Jane Grey's Father-in-Law by Christine Hartweg and The Spanish Armada by Robert Hutchinson .

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2145 comments Antonietta: do you mean The Virgin Widow? Because that's about Anne Neville and too early. There's a Jean Plaidy novel of the same title that's about Katherine of Aragon, though.

Antonietta | 33 comments Hi Susanna yes it is the one about Anne Neville. As the is something about Margaret Beaufort and Henry VII I have thought it would be ok. But I going to find something else :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2145 comments Awesome.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2145 comments I will nominate The Eyes of the Queen by Oliver Clements.

And with that I close nominations.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2145 comments The winner was Amy License's biography of Catherine of Aragon, and we'll be discussing it here: /topic/show/... .
