This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)

Would you recommend this title?

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?

Tammy What did you read this week?
I'm reading The Pickwick PapersCharles Dickens
Did you enjoy it?
I'm still reading it. I'm enjoying it but it's going slow.
Would you recommend this title? Yes, it's a classic and humorous.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? Definitely!

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 414 comments What did you read this week?
I read The Mysteries of Pittsburgh by Michael Chabon. He was 24 when he wrote it. discussion here

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review)
I really did! review here

Would you recommend this title?
I would. It's pretty interesting. It was also informative about what Pittsburgh was like.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
Yes! I've started noticing books by him when I go to bookstores now. I'll definitely pick something of his up after this challenge.

message 4: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 225 comments What did you read this week? The Diary of a Young Girl

Did you enjoy it? Yes

Would you recommend this title? I would, but would advise anyone planning on reading it to do a bit of research on the main 3 versions beforehand. I read the "definitive" version, which had more about Anne talking about her sexuality. I admired her matter-of-fact way of speaking on the subject. It was very refreshing (though I realize others may not find that to be so).

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? This may seem odd to say, but yes. As I was reading it, she would discuss how she was writing fiction and fairy tales. It made me want to read something else of hers and hoping that something had been published. Lo and behold: Anne Frank's Tales from the Secret Annex

message 5: by Karen Michele (last edited Feb 10, 2015 05:43AM) (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) What did you read this week?

I read The Path to the Spiders' Nests by Italo Calvino

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review)

I did enjoy it: /review/show...

Would you recommend this title?

Yes, for those who like coming of age and war novels.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?

Yes, I have only read one other novel of his (If on a Winter's Night a Traveler) and I want to read more.

message 6: by Cait (new)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments What did you read this week? Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review) I've not written a review yet but I can't help but feel kind of 'meh' about it. It was an okay book but there seemed to be long sections where not much was really happening and it took ages to actually get to the monster.

It's not my least favourite book, but it's definitely not one of my favourites.

Would you recommend this title? I think it's one of those books that is worth a read and I'm glad I've read it so I can say I've read it. For someone who is interested in books from this period, I would say definitely read it.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? Knowing what I know about Mary Shelley's life, I think I would be interested in reading more by her. But I need a break from reading Frankenstein first.

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 186 comments What did you read this week?
I chose to read Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Did you enjoy it?
Well I am only 59 pages into the book, but I am loving it so far!

Would you recommend this title?
Yes I sure would! I feel like its going to be one of those books that when I am done I will be sad that I finished it already.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
Yes I am already planing on reading the second book(Golden Son) right after this one.

message 8: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Day (nikkiday) What did you read this week?
The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review)
I did but more as a guilty pleasure book, not as a thrilling or exciting read. My review is here:

Would you recommend this title?
I would recommend it to younger readers. I imagine it might not be enjoyed by older people. I really didn't like the young narrative voice at first but got used to it once I got more into the story. Others may not be able to look past it though.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
Probably not, only because her books seem very cliche and for a younger audience. I LOVE young adult but some YA books are much more diverse audience wise than others.

message 9: by QS (new)

QS (yodepalma) | 42 comments What did you read this week?
(Most of) Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I still have like 100 pages or so left, but I forgot to charge my Nook last night, so I guess I can't finish it tonight. How sad.

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review)
I haven't been, but I've been trying so so hard to.

Would you recommend this title?
I'm trying to think of someone I would rec it to, but honestly, even if I think somebody might like it, I would probably still tell them not to read it.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
Not a chance. I'm not even sure I'm going to finish this one, honestly.

message 10: by Krista (new)

Krista (k_lou) | 48 comments What did you read this week? The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review) I did, I thought it was very compelling.

Would you recommend this title? I would.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? I will be looking into her poetry more than I have definitely. I liked her writing style.

I also read The Bell Jar! Kind of broke my heart in how much I related to it; I'm so glad I finally got around to reading her though!

What did you read this week?
Fairytales for Wilde Girls

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review)
Yes, I liked how the story is told and I cared a lot about all the characters. There are magical creatures and deep sadness in the book, so it was a perfect read for february for me.

Would you recommend this title?
I don't think it's a book for everyone. I could recommend it for grown-ups who still believe in magical creatures and who have an haunted heart.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
First, I'm interested in a worldwide release for this book. And yes, I would be pleased to discover the next title written by this new author.

message 13: by Bruce (new)

Bruce Warren I read Less Than Zero.

I thought it was very good. Probably not for everyone and the similarities to the film stop at the title and characters. It really is a look at a very specific place and time. When you look at it like that, I thought it was great. It is also disturbing, in full Bret Easton Ellis mode, but that only really adds to it.

message 14: by Susan (new)

Susan Hanna | 14 comments I read Commencement by J. Courtney Sullivan.

I did enjoy it... More than several reviews that I've read. The young women in the novel were written with enough detail and substance that I "knew" them and cared about them. I did not feel like the plot was as unbelievable as some other reviews mentioned.

I would recommend this title to anyone who read Maine and enjoyed it. Or who is looking for a debut novel for this challenge. Or a one-word title.

I am interested in reading Maine.

message 15: by Michelle (last edited Feb 16, 2015 06:57PM) (new)

Michelle Winchester I read The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer and I really enjoyed it, even though I am quite aware it's definitely not perfect and could use a lot of editting, both because of the writing and the pacing of the story. But I did like it very much, because it was funny and witty and I just always loved fairy tales.

I would recommend it to fairy tale lovers and to people who don't look too deep while their reading, because this book has a lot of flaws about it, but if you look past them, it's a very heartfelt, sweet, and enjoyable read.

I'm definitely going to read the sequel of this book. I loved Alex and Conner, so I want to read more about them!

message 16: by Cris (new)

Cris (cris_lectora) What did you read this week? The Bell Jar

Did you enjoy it? Very much so: /review/show...

Would you recommend this title? Yes, although I understand that the theme and style might not be for everyone.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? This is Sylvia Plath's only novel, but I wouldn't mind to check out some of her poetry works.

message 17: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh (ashleighsbookshelf) What did you read this week?
I'll Never Be Young Again by Daphne du Maurier

Did you enjoy it?
Not as much as I hoped I would!

Would you recommend this title?
Yes to a fan of du Maurier but it's not the place to start with her writing!

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
I'm currently working my way through her bibliography so yes! I'm planning to read Julius (her 3rd novel) for "1 word titles" week!

message 18: by Marina H (last edited Feb 19, 2015 03:49AM) (new)

Marina H | 272 comments What did you read this week?
Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Did you enjoy it?
I did, yes. There is something about Africa and African culture that fascinates me, but my knowledge about Africa and the African countries is also limited, so I enjoy reading books where I learn more about these countries and the people who live there.

Would you recommend this title?
I would!

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
I'm already planning on reading The Thing Around Your Neck so yes!

message 19: by Tammy (new)

Tammy What did you read this week? The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens

Did you enjoy it? At times, but it was so long-winded that I tired of it long before it was over!

Would you recommend this title? Yes and no. I'm glad I read it and enjoyed he characters, but be ready for a long read. I typically read books fairly quickly but struggled with this one.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? I've read some of his other work and will probably read more, but it'll be awhile!

message 20: by Tina (new)

Tina (tjlich) I am trying to read Golden Son, the second in the Trilogy of Red Rising. I read Red Rising and LOVED it. This one is slower catching on for me so I'm back and forth with week 7's book.

I'll let you know if I enjoy it. I predict I will once it gets going.

I am definitely interested in everything this author writes!

What did you read this week?
I am running a bit behind, but just started reading "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini.

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review)
So far the story is interesting. The writing is not as good as I expected, based on how many people told me I should read this book. But I am trying to remind myself that he was only 15 when he wrote it.

Would you recommend this title?
Hm...not far enough into it yet.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
If I continue to be interested in the story, I'll probably read the whole trilogy.

message 22: by Ali (new)

Ali What did you read this week?
P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern

Did you enjoy it?
No, not really. I thought the characters were not very well developed, and Gerry and Holly's relationship didn't work for me. It was immature.

Would you recommend this title?
No, not unless it was to someone I knew well, and I felt they would appreciate it more than I did.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
This was my second Ahern. I read a later book, The Book of Tomorrow, earlier this year. Comparing the two, I can tell Ahern has matured a lot as an author, but I didn't enjoy either of the books enough to feel like I must seek out more of her work.

message 23: by Krysta (new)

Krysta (booksaremyfavthing) | 115 comments What did you read this week? The Diary of a Young Girl

Did you enjoy it? Yes I did.

Would you recommend this title? Yes.

I had been wanting to read this for a while, and am glad to have had this week to read it.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? I'm not sure. I see a book of her stories that she wrote has been published, but I'm not sure I want to read it.

message 24: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments What did you read this week? Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Did you enjoy it? Not really, I was tired or annoyed most of the time and didn't like the conclusions of the different problems

Would you recommend this title? Just to a Divergent fan and just because is the final volume.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? I think I already read all her work :/ , I didn't like Allegiant, but I really enjoyed Divergent, so yes, if she write something else, I would read it, but I would wait the reviews first.

message 25: by Francesca (new)

Francesca | 391 comments What did you read this week?
All I Know Now: Wonderings and Reflections on Growing Up Gracefully

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review)
Yes!

Would you recommend this title?
I would highly recommend it to fans of hers and to all teenagers. I think teenagers would benefit from the advice given slightly more than older audiences.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author?
I definitely would be! I hope she does write more books!

message 26: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments What did you read this week? I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban

Did you enjoy it? Not as much as I'd hoped. /review/show...

Would you recommend this title? Yes, I would definitely recommend it. Even though it didn't live up to my expectations, I think it's very important for people to read and understand just what she went through, and what girls & women continue to face around the world.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? Not at this point.

message 27: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (mich2689) | 122 comments What did you read this week? Wind/Pinball: Two Novels

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review) It was ok. The two novels in the book were very early works of Haruki Murakami and I felt that they weren't nearly as good as his more recent books.

Would you recommend this title? Not really, unless you're a huge Murakami fan and you want to read all of his works.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? Yes.

message 28: by Jean (new)

Jean Cole (joc724) | 115 comments What did you read this week? The Tiger's Wife byTéa Obreht

Did you enjoy it? Very much. My review is here.

Would you recommend this title? Yes.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? I haven't seen any more titles by this author. But if I do I will definitely check it out.

message 29: by Christi (new)

Christi What did you read this week?Murder at the Brightwell by Ashley Weaver

Did you enjoy it? (feel free to link to your book review) Yes. It was a cute book.

Would you recommend this title? If you like Agatha Christie, you may like this book.

Are you interested in reading other titles written by this author? I would read the next book in the Amory Ames series after this challenge is over.
