We finished the book! What did everyone think? Who ended up being your favorite character? Were there any themes you picked up on? This is the first book in a series. Do you think you'll continue and read the rest of the books?

Natalya | 7 comments I really enjoyed it overall. It's not a fave fave, but I think I'd continue the series, for sure. My favorite character is Claudia with Lestat second. They were more complex than Louis, who didn't bother me, but his continual wondering if he was a demon and him trying to stay as human as possible repeated a little too much for me. I like the theme and I think it was great to have Louis as the vampire telling his story, but maybe a little less. Yet, I understand where Louis is coming from and if I were turned into a vampire, I'd probably be like him. lol

Natalya please continue!!! It gets so so so good! The next book is Lestat and you get way more insight to him as a character. I want to keep going myself. I read through book 6 in the series as a teen and now the series is up to 13 books. I love Rice’s writing and you get such an insight to each character as the series progresses! We could read together if you want?

Oooo! Insight into a morally grey character?? Yes! That would be a lot of fun to buddy read it with you. ^_^

Mike | 56 comments Finished! Sorry to say that this one was a bit of a slog for me. I enjoyed the beginning and the end, but that middle section kind of dragged the book down. There were some interesting takes on vampires and it was cool to dig into their psyche, so I can appreciate what Anne Rice was going for here. Lestat was an interesting character for sure, and I think it might be cool to check out the next book to get more insight into him...

"I'm at odds with everything and always have been! I have never belonged anywhere with anyone at any time!" - Louis was emo before emo existed. Such an angsty teen. ha!

I’ve finally finished! It took me forever to read this 😂 I love the themes this book explored, and Rice’s vampires are so interesting to me. The plot though.was a bit slow. It bogged down soooooo much in the middle and then it was like Paris/new vampires/death/fire and more death/bye Armand/end in rapid succession. The pacing was just off for me. And I like Louis, but Lestat is a way better protagonist. So the next couple of books I think are better because Lestat tells those stories. I’m glad I reread this, but it’s definitely not the best in the series! I would consider rereading the rest of the books someday, but not now lol. Now I want to rewatch the movie since it’s been forever since I’ve seen it! Thanks everyone for reading with us :)
