Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves, Trolls, Goblins and Orcs. All my favorite Tolkien figures.
I'm sure I will!

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? Fire Demons, a golem, emanations, mermaids. Most are in the background, but there are a few that are at the forefront of the story.
Did you enjoy the book? Yes
Would you recommend this title? Yes. I would warn anyone starting to read it, not to expect the characters from the movie. In the movie the characters are much more idealised and that was my mistake the first time I read this years ago.

Bite Me by Christopher Moore
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
Vampires and a huge vampire cat named Chet.
Did you enjoy the book? Yes, it was fun, but not as good as the first two books in the series.
Would you recommend this title?
I'd recommend it to fans of dark humor, or those who have been reading the series.

I enjoyed it very much. I read it in two days only and that was while working twelve-hour shifts, so it's really easy to read and has a lot of insight on Buddhism and what it's actually about. I had Religion at school, so I knew a lot already, but some thoughts were new to me and it was quite inspirational.
I would recommend it, because this could help a lot of people broaden their minds and learn about a culture that's so different from the western one. Even if they took nothing else from this book, this would be a good enough reason. Also, there is a very gentle, sweet kind of humor that feels very refreshing, so it's definitely worth reading!

I've read Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
Animals: a pig, a mouse, a spider, geese, sheep, etc.
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review)
Yes, it's easy to read.
Would you recommend this title?
Yes, to anyone, especially to children

I'm reading Mythology by Edith Hamilton.
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
Gods, goddesses, titans, nymphs and such.
Did you enjoy the book?
I'm enjoying it but in a 3-star kind of way? Like I know reading this is good for me 'cause there are so many references to these myths, but it's a little heavy. I couldn't read this within a week. I started around a month ago and I'm still not done.
[March 9, 2015] I am done and I stick by what I've said about it. Here's my review.
Would you recommend this title?
I would because it's educational.

Moby-Dick by Herman Melville
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
Whales!
Did you enjoy the book?
I really did. I wrote a very lengthy review over at my blog ()
Would you recommend this title?
Absolutely. It's not an easy read but definitely one that is worth sticking with that you learn a lot from!

I appreciate your feedback on that book. It was on my list, but I let it pass by because I figured it would be deep and hard to read. I will seek it out now!

It's the story of sheep detectives. SHEEP as detectives!
I found this rather amusing...apparently sheep don't think like people. They don't grasp certain things and they have a much better sense of smell. It was great!
Recommend? Certainly. It did not breach my Top 5, but it was different and interesting and I didn't figure out who dunnit.

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? Orcs, elves, mixed orc and elf, dragons (mentioned)
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review) Oh I enjoyed it so much! Great storu and great background/mythos. I am working on my review and will hopefully get a chance to link it later today.
Would you recommend this title? Yes! Read it! Especially if you like fantasy, this is a great alternative to the "grr I will kill everything" orc

What did you read this week?
This week I am reading The Bees by Laline Paull.
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review)
I’m only 20% through the book and I can’t really get into it. I don’t usually read books like this and I have been dreading this week’s topic. A big point to this challenge is to expand my reading options so I’m trying to get through it. I really don’t want to give up, but I’m not really enjoying it. Should I try something else? Has anyone read this novel and does it get better?
Would you recommend this title?
I personally would not recommend this novel, but if you like sci-fi, I’m sure you would like it.

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? Cats. And a fox and a magpie, and some other animals mentioned sporadically. But mostly cats.
Did you enjoy the book? Yes, I did! I don't think I ever got around to reviewing it, but I definitely gave it 4/5 stars. I will say that it's much better than the sequel and can be read on its own, which is a nice bonus.
Would you recommend this title? If you like fantasy novels and don't mind reading a story that's literally a fantasy novel about cats, yes, definitely. This thing pulls out so many fantasy tropes it's actually kind of hilarious. :)

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? Pigs, horses, dogs, geese, chickens, sheep, a cat, a donkey, various other barnyard animals
Did you enjoy the book? It was alright, it was an easy read, and I did breeze through it, but the ending seemed a little too predictable.
Would you recommend this title? If you wanna read it just to say that you have, then give it a shot. It's nice and short. But if you're expecting a classic that stood the test of time, I'd skip this.

What did you read this week? Roverandom by J.R.R. Tolkien
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? The main character is a dog and he also meets a moon-dog and a sea-dog as well.
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review) I did, it's a lovely little book that you can read fairly quickly. It's got lots of little nods to other things that adults would probably get but which would go over the heads of children, particularly if the adult is a fan of Tolkien's other books. ;-)
Would you recommend this title? For fans of Tolkien, without a doubt. I think it would make a really good bedtime story, perhaps for a parent who likes The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings but whose child isn't quite old enough for The Hobbit yet.

I continued slowly working my way through my Week 3 and Week 6 books (little progress was made...sigh), and I read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH for Week 7.
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
The main characters are mice and rats. Minor characters include a cat, a shrew, an owl, and a crow.
Did you enjoy the book?
I did, and I started out dreading this week! It's so much better than the crappy movie that swore me off the story when I was a kid. I've passed it on to my son, and I may read it to my students next year.
Would you recommend this title?
For the young and the young-at-heart, yes.

I were suppose to read Watership Down but I didn't finish it.
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
Mostly rabbits but also other animals
Did you enjoy the book?
No, I'm sorry to say but I didn't. I found it boring and several things in the book irritated me, and that's probably why I didn't finish it. A short review of why I didn't like it, can be found here: /review/show...
Would you recommend this title?
For now, no I wouldn't.

I have read The Hobbit, finally! (or actually a few weeks ago, I'm doing this challenge a bit out of order)
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
Hobbits! And elves, dwarfs and even a dragon!
Did you enjoy the book?
I enjoyed it, it was a nice and fun read at times, but I gave it 3 out of 5 stars, because it just wasn't anything special for me. Some parts were too slow for my linking, and it took me way to long to get through considering it's just a few hundred pages.
Would you recommend this title?
I don't think I would recommend it as an introduction to Tolkien, I liked The Lord of The Rings more. However, I'm glad I read it, and I want to eventually read all of Tolkien works.

The protagonist is a Gorilla.
I am enjoying it so far. It's a middle grade book and I love to engage in this level of reading from time to time. At age 45, it plays with my senses and alludes to my inner child, although this is a story for any age to enjoy!
I would recommend it!

What did you read this week?
Three Bags Full
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
Many sheep :D
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review)
The thriller was good enough but I'm disappointed by the end. However, I liked the sheep points of view and the fact animal welfare is addressed in the book. Some parts were funny, others a bit slow. Overall, I enjoyed it.
Would you recommend this title?
Yes to people interested in sheep and people who like spending some time in an animal head. However, I won't recommend it for the thriller part.

Mice, cats, frogs, dogs
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review)
Yes, my review is here.
Would you recommend this title?
Yes, with the disclaimer that it is very sad (obviously) since it is about the Holocaust.

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
~it is written from a dog's perspective
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review)
Loved this book! my review
Would you recommend this title? yes

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? Man eating plants (yes, really!)
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review)
Didn't expect to but I loved it!
Would you recommend this title? Absolutely

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? Rising and Descending had Dagonians and mermaids in it. Three Bags Full had Sheep as the main characters.
Did you enjoy the book? I enjoyed Rising so much that as soon as soon as I finished it i bought the second one and read it in a day as well. lol I did enjoy Three Bags Full, the mystery kept me guessing right up till the end.
Would you recommend this title? I would recommend all three books.

This discussion thread is solely for you..."
I am SO behind with the challenge...still reading a book from Weeks 2/3, and reading my "author under 30 book" and really enjoying it. In fact, it's Eragon, which of course includes a dragon...maybe I can read the one book to cover both weeks? :)

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? A doy (Enzo).
Did you enjoy the book? Yes, I don't know why I didn't read this when it came out. It was great.
Would you recommend this title? Yes.

Doll Face
What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?
Supernatural entities.
Did you enjoy the book?
Yes I did. Parts of it I wasn't so keen on but it was a really fun and entertaining read with a lot of good scary and creepy moments.
Would you recommend this title?
Yes.

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? For some reason when I saw this category the four-legged variety of nonhumans did not occur to me. So I chose this book that has witches and vampires.
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review) I gave it 3 stars. See my full review here
Would you recommend this title? I would characterize this book as Nora Roberts meets Twilight. To some, that puts this book at the top of their "to-read" list and for others, right into the "not worthy of my time" pile. I'd say I'm somewhere in the middle.

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book?Fairies, dwarves, pixies, centaurs, goblins and elves.
Did you enjoy the book? Yes, I did!
Would you recommend this title? Yes, but only to someone who has read the whole series. This book is the last one of Artemis Fowl series and the story makes a lot of references to the previous adventures.

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? Chickens, roosters, ducks, foxes & other various animals.
Did you enjoy the book? Incredibly so. It made me feel all the feels and made me cry like very few books ever have. I borrowed this from the library, and as soon as I finished it I ordered my own copy. It's a six-star book for me. /review/show...
Would you recommend this title? I would, and I do - especially to other mothers.

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? Gods.
Did you enjoy the book? Yes. I'm so glad I read it.
Would you recommend this title? Yes.

What kinds of nonhuman characters are in the book? mermaids and dragons
Did you enjoy the book? Not at all. It was poorly written. It was a free Kindle book so I shouldn't be surprised.
Would you recommend this title? No!!!!
