I've been working on some Finnish awards today and just started to wonder what is a good award name language policy. Should the name be the actual award name in what ever language it's in or should it be an English translation of the name?

To give an example, the most prominent Finnish literary award is Finlandia-palkinto, but in Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ it's Finlandia Prize. This is the correct translation. On the other hand there is for example Kiitos kirjasta -mitali (Thank you for the book medal) that is named here in Finnish. So there isn't really any consistency.

I was going to say that I don't think they should be translated, but when reading the Finnish names I realized that without translating you might not have a clue what it says. But that is actually nit really a problem. I don't really like translated names.

The official name of the award, as per the awarding body, should be listed. (In some cases that may be in the language of the award, but not always.) Any other names for the award can be listed on the award's description page.
