I-like-to-read (akakate) Hi guys, this group has gone very quiet in anything we can do to get it lively again?

Linda (ezilyamused) | 1 comments What is everyone reading now? I’m reading The Speckled Beauty by Rick Bragg. It’s a darling dog story.

And I’m knitting The Cumulus Blouse out of a lovely golden brown silk/mohair yarn.

I usually knit when my family watches TV so I don’t knit and listen to audiobooks at the same time.

I haven’t seen posts on here so I’m not sure which topic is relevant. Forgive me if I’m off-topic!

Mary-Anne Deanike | 10 comments I just finished The Reading List. I absolutely LOVED it and am now reading the books on "the" list!!
I am knitting a kimono style baby cardigan for our 8th grandchild!! I also have a pair of socks always on the go - great gifts for friends & family.
I just bought myself an ebike - any cyclists out there?
I can't wait for the Spring to get back to my gardens.
Enough rambling - I look forward to hearing from this group!
Cheers! Mary-Anne

I-like-to-read (akakate) hi guys, nice to meet you my name is Samantha, Sam toy friends.

I'm currently reading grown ups, Marian keyes, and on my needles is a jumper that I'm getting really bored of, trying to resist the temptation to start sometimes else :)

Susan | 1 comments I am about a week into knitting Old Town by Carol Sunday with MadTosh in kitten, and I'm about to finish up Mercy Street, Jennifer Haigh's new book, on audio. Not a happy book but dang the lady can write.

message 6: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Anderson (miss5elements) | 41 comments I just finished Home and a few more chapters in Connect: Building Exceptional Relationships with Family, Friends, and Colleagues. One of my groups - Around the Year in 52 Books - is very active, so I'm listening to lots of audiobooks.

I'm knitting the Purl Soho's Rectangular Colorblock Bias Blanket for my niece who started college this year. Hopefully, I can finish it before winter is over.

I tend to watch movies while I'm knitting. Anyone have any recommendations for a good documentary about anything yarn or fiber arts-related? The last one I saw - "Where'd You Go, Bernadette?"- the main character, played by Cate Blanchette, knits while standing as she works as an architect.

Sherry Letchford | 2 comments Was knitting prayer shawls for our local hospital til I broke my right elbow in 5 places soon ready to go back and try knitting again. I have been reading on my kindle as it is easier no trying to turn pages so doing some light mysteries and thrillers. Loved The Guest List by Lucy Foley and Sanitorium by Sara Pearse.

Goodness! Speedy recovery & welcome back to knitting.

Bonny | 7 comments Hi Everone, A few days ago, I finished the audio book version of 'The Fabric of Civilization '. An excellent book about how fabric connected to inventions, trade and society through history. The audio book was shorter than most other books and easy to listen to but it was fascinating! I learned lots of things! Currently I'm working on baby gifts and gnomes.

L J | 3 comments Hello! The topic for this thread intrigued me since I need a kick start getting back to reading, and finding something new to knit. I just finished "Nacho Average Murder" (book #7 in Maddie Day's Country Store mysteries. I'm reading the series in order....this was not my favorite, but I'm hoping that was due to the change of venue and the main character's return home with the usual cast of characters will rekindle my interest). I've been knitting fairly steadily since the first of the year, but am in a slump after finishing a big blanket and a bunch of smaller projects. My mom turned me on to Arne & Carlos, so I'm hoping that diving into their Christmas Balls will get me back on track! Happy reading and knitting, all.

message 14: by Donna (new)

Donna (donna_egan) | 1 comments Hello all! I’m happy this group has been kick started. I’m currently knitting the Stephen West Slipstravaganza blanket. It’s a gift for my granddaughter to celebrate her high school graduation. As far as reading goes, I’m in a slump. I really need to find a good book. I’m 3/4 of the way through The Woman before Wallis by Bryn Turnbill. Historical fiction is usually my genre. Both this book and the prior book I read seem to be heavy on fiction. I’m open for recommendations. Happy knitting and reading to all!

message 15: by Norma (new)

Norma | 2 comments I’ve gotten hooked on Donna Leon’s Inspector Brunetti series of mysteries which now number 31 with her latest release. I was a bit skeptical about how good they’d be at first, thinking that they were just being churned out with no attention to quality. Not so. The writing is excellent particularly when she is describing Venice or the wide variety of Italian dishes consumed by the characters. The plots are interesting and the dialogue is natural. Mangia!

As for knitting.I am not a monogamous knitter so right now I’m knitting a cabled baby sweater called Freddie, a pair of Easy Mosaic Socks, a pair of Selbu mittens, an Alaska hat, and a Dovetail Shawl. Only five things - not so bad for me - lol. If you are on Ravelry, feel free to check out my page: nhoran

I-like-to-read (akakate) Hi Donna, hi Norma (✷‿✷) one drawback of ŷ is you can't do smiley faces or like someone's comments, or can you and I just don't know how (◍•ᴗ•◍)

Kathie (kathie4thcom) | 10 comments Hi everyone, I'm Kathie and I'm currently reading The First Kennedys by Neal Thompson, a new book that I won through ŷ. I've been knitting socks like crazy for my fellow book club members. Someday I'll get back to working on a sweater I started months ago.
Have fun reading and knitting, my two favorite pastimes.
