Fr. Michael's pick for our May 9th 'What Are You Reading?' post. Fr. Michael says, "I want to read it before I watch it!"

AnneMarie | 4 comments I hope that Fr. Michael enjoys it! I read that book over the winter and man, it was kind of tough to get through in parts. It was quite interesting, but the paragraph-after-paragraph of interior monologue got to me a little much at times (being struck down with severe pregnancy nausea probably contributed to the difficulties I had too lol). Still a good read!

Alexander Wittler | 5 comments The book can be read two contradictory ways: One Paul uses God(Religion) for his purpose (this is the way the book was probably intended) or Two that God uses Paul to lead his chosen people to freedom. I prefer the second way of course, but the book seems rather cynical. I have greatly enjoyed the book despite the authors attempt at anti religious allegory, but it might not be for everyone

Michael M | 1 comments I had a very similar reading to Alexander. I love the book for its political and spiritual themes. Most people end up reading it as religion in use of humanity and its tool (see the modern film remakes) but I think many interpreted it differently in the past. I took it as a deeper look at the way God works in the universe despite the machinations of human beings or not. To me Dune is close to the "true myth" of Tolkien and Lewis and less of the psychologization of religion for power.
