I've read Hotel Megalodon and it was good!
I had read some of the Kindle samples for those Chris Jameson books a couple of weeks ago. As I read them I developed some concerns about how well this group would like them. I wouldn't rule them out, it's just I didn't want to be the one to put my neck out!

I had Shark Beach on my maybe-list for a while now. Never got around to reading it. Especially since there didn't seem to be an audio so other books were read first.
Russ, what exactly were your concerns?

I could be wrong but his depiction of women may not go over well. The samples seemed clumsier than Alten in that regard.

It's official, shark fans. Discovery has announced that Shark Week 2022 is coming this July!
They were mum about it until the basketball broadcast the other night on TNT, where they revealed that Shaq will appear on SharkWeek again this year.
No exact dates though yet. As soon as we get them, I'll create the discussion board for our group read.

Is such a thing even possible??? *lol*

It's official!
The poll for our group read this summer has closed, and the top vote getter is Close to Shore: The Terrifying Shark Attacks of 1916 by Michael Capuzzo. This book was nominated by Dennis and won by three out of five votes cast.
Yesterday, Discovery officially announced that Shark Week will take place July 24 through July 31, 2022!
I've scheduled our group read to kick-off on July 17 for those who want or need a head start. The discussion board for the book will be ready then.

It‘s very unlikely that I will join you for this book, it doesn‘t interest me. I‘ll have a look at the links though.

Of course it's ridiculous! *lol* That's the whole point. It's why I usually don't watch these episodes but stick to the more scientific ones. It's like the melorama when one of the VIPs goes into the water - as if they didn't have a Navy SEAL team on standby because they'd otherwise be bankrupt. *lol*
Not really. I always considered any shark book (except non-fiction) to be horror to some degree or other and it's what I have Shark Week for.
Cathy wrote: "Do any of you have any shark horror books lined up for Spooktober?"
Not sharks but maybe a bit of light horror with dogs, cats, owls: A Night in the Lonesome October.

I'm considering three books right now for Spooktober:
From Below
Teeth Of The Sea
Something Wicked This Way Comes!
Might as well use that KU subscription as long as I still have it. Not sure any of them include sharks. For From Below I wouldn't bet against it. That's also my most likely choice at this point.

Sounds like an idea. My KU subscription runs out end of October, so I would be game to read From Below!

Oscar-caliber I'm sure! You'll have to let us know how the book turns out.
As far as creature features I'm hoping to read Terminal Freeze in January.

Am also interested in:
Megalodon: Bloodbath (Michael Cole)
and MegaCroc: Origins (Julian Michael Carver). I read MegaCroc and quite enjoyed that.

Now accepting nominees for our Shark Week 2023 group read!
To get the blood pumping, these are the two books that, though not selected, received the second highest number of votes in last year's poll:
Megalodon: Apex Predator
Fathomless
So those should be in the mix.
I recently read a sample of Oceanarium: A Deep Sea Thriller and it's pretty good.
What's on your list?

Oh, that Oceanarium looks interesting. Still have the Megalodon one on my list though so I think I have to vote for that. *lol*
The poll is up at /poll/show/2... and is open up through tomorrow.
Right now we've got a tie so we may do a second round of voting if it remains close or deadlocked.

Well, I'm good no matter which of the two win but I won't be able to read both as my July is too full already and the month will be crazy enough as is. :/

Thanks Russ.
Thanks to all who voted in this summer's poll! A couple more votes came in and Oceanarium: A Deep Sea Thriller led the pack.

With Shark Week 2024 starting July 7 (hat tip to RJ!) it's time to start thinking about our summer read.
Our four past reads were Hell's Aquarium, Nightstalkers, Close to Shore: The Terrifying Shark Attacks of 1916, and Oceanarium: A Deep Sea Thriller.
Our criteria include availability as an e-book. Also (as much as I'd love a book with killer whales, giant squid, piranhas, etc.) it should have, well . . . sharks.
Runners up in last year's poll were Chasing Shadows: My Life Tracking the Great White Shark and Megalodon: Apex Predator. What additional nominees do you all have?

Some ideas:
Megalodon: Bloodbath sounds very similar to Jaws, but probably isn’t.
Blood Island sounds utterly ridiculous
The Megalodon: A Deep Sea Thriller
Carcharodon

The Megalodon: A Deep Sea Thriller led the pack based on the votes. I'll set up a discussion board tomorrow!

Sounds almost tempting a zombie shark I am always amazed at the book blurbs, also for our shark week read just stay out of the water, problem, solved, right? I am guessing there are always pressing reasons why someone absolutely has to enter the water.

Well, don't assume they know there are zombie sharks down there!
