Tom | 22 comments I wasn't quite sure what to think about this story. I could see how it could be interpreted on several levels. For example, when Virginia Woolf describes Flush having to have his coat shaved because of fleas, I especially liked this quote:

"The true philosopher is he who has lost his coat but is free from fleas."

Pat | 92 comments I didn't understand the reference in "Chapter Four: Whitechapel" about the Marylebone Church Bells. If someone could please enlighten me, I would appreciate it.

Terris | 4228 comments I just finished and I enjoyed it! Mostly because I am not a Virginia Woolf fan, but this one was light and fun. I was pleasantly surprised :)

I am not sure but I thought it a reference to Elizabeth and Robert's elopement.

Pat | 92 comments Yes, she was concerned about her elopement being discovered too soon, but I wondered if there was something specific to the Marylebone Church Bells or if it was just church bells in general.

That church was where the elopement took place was so I though EBB's hearing of the bells at that moment raised her emotional anxieties of repercussions. (No pun intended.)

Pat | 92 comments Thanks, Sam, for the explanation and the pun :)

µþá°ù²ú²¹°ù²¹ (leviathan_) | 17 comments I finished this one last week. Not what Virginia Woolf had gotten me used to, for sure!

Sam | 995 comments Yes this was a very conventional novel, a bit young adult I think, but I enjoyed the read anyway.

message 11: by lethe (new) - added it

lethe | 82 comments I fully intended to read this and I made it as far as the preface, but then life got in the way and I stalled. I won't be able to finish it in one day and other books are calling to me, so I'll put it back on my to-read shelf for now.
