I haven't read any of your selections. The Dave Grohl book sounds interesting. Good luck in 2023.

I definitely have The Only Good Indians on my Around the USA list and hope to read it next year. I've heard good things about it, so I hope you enjoy it.

Good luck and happy reading

Jodi (jlula) | 18 comments Fast start to the year! Needs to happen since by June I slow way down and then panic in the fall with how far behind I am.
The Worst Hard Time... - This book was fascinating, and I enjoyed learning the history of this time in America. When I'm having a bad day, it's this book I think back on and am grateful I wasn't in that time! 3 of 5 stars.
Going There - I really enjoyed this book, surprisingly. It's big at 500 pages (for me) but the chapters were short, and Katie is a very good storyteller. News network scuttle was fun and juicy. 4 of 5 stars.
The Lost Girls of Willowbrook - This was a "didn't see that coming" almost at the very end. Good suspense and a bit claustrophobic in how the main character was going to manage. Don't want to give it away. Some scenes disturbing in connection with the institution. Based on an existing institution made me look it up for more history behind it. 3.5 of 5 stars.

Ann at the Beach | 120 comments I found the Worst Hard Time fascinating also. I thought that the Big Burn was also very interesting, Enjoy your reading.

I'll have to check out the Big Burn. Thanks for the mention.

Jodi (jlula) | 18 comments Just cracked open The Sentence from my list. Got sidetracked by a few other non-list books. :)

Karol | 676 comments Jodi, I read The Worst Hard Time a few years ago. It was a tough read, and really stuck with me.

Jodi (jlula) | 18 comments Just finished The Sentence. I enjoy this author and can easily connect with her characters. As a resident of the greater Minneapolis area and this book being centered there, I was hooked into the locations and have visited this author's bookstore. The native american references and writing are comforting (for lack of a better word) as I continue to learn of my Ojibwe heritage. I loved her book, The Round House. I'll seek out more of her books.

Jodi (jlula) | 18 comments I finished The Only Good Indians Wasn't quite my cup of tea. I enjoy native american stories but I think this one a bit too dark for my liking. 2.5 of 5 stars.

message 15: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jlula) | 18 comments I also finished Veil of Lies. I've enjoyed Nicky Charles' books around the paranormal creatures. I haven't read them for quite some time but could still place the characters mentioned within. Fun books! 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Jodi (jlula) | 18 comments My strikeouts above are not correct. I did a strikeout of one book and they all appear as strikeout in published mode. I'll figure out later.
