Ann at the Beach | 120 comments I am late to the party and I must admit that I do not remember all of the tricks to updating comments on ŷ. To make the deadline (tick tick tick) I will just type in my selections and figure out how to do the links and stuff…..

So this year I am using my new library card !! and trying not to buy any new books --- not to worry -- I have many overflowing bookshelves with books to choose from. My goal is to reduce the number of books that I own by completing them and donating them to the library. If I find I "need " to read a book that I do not already possess I will go to the library.

This list (except the 1st book) is made up of books currently on my shelves....
5/16
1. Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe 1/3
2.Night Road by Kristin Hannah
1/22 ****
3. Radiant Angel by Nelson DeMille I 8 /21 ****
4. Roadside Crosses by Jeffery Deaver
5. The Malta Exchange by Steve Berry
6. Still Life by Louise Penny
7. Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult4/30 ****
8.Make Me by Lee Child 2/27 ****
9. The Escape by David Baldacci
10 Murder in the House by Margaret Truman5/22 ***
11.Dune by Frank Herbert5/17****
12 The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett 8/26 **

+4
13. All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders7/5 ***
14.The Girl in the Plain Brown Wrapper by John D. MacDonald1/14 ****
15. Silver Girl by Elin Hilderbrand 1/9 ***

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 228 comments I’m happy to see Dune on your list! I’m also planning to read All the Birds in the Sky. I recommended it to our library’s sci-fi book club since I’ve owned it for several years. I hope it’s good! Enjoy your selections!

message 4: by Mary (new)

Mary | 73 comments I loved Dune and remembered really liking The Thin Man when I read it years ago. I read Raymond Chandler's books around the same time which I love (The Long Goodbye, The Big Sleep). I also have Say Nothing on my list. I will check back to see what your thoughts are about it. Happy reading!

Great list, Ann. How are you liking the Kathryn Dance series?? I stopped the Lincoln Rhyme series, but picked up a few standalones. I like his short stories.

Good luck and happy reading

Ioana | 2055 comments Nice list! I'm familiar with most your authors, but not the books listed. I've only read Night Road which was good. Happy reading, I'll be following your reviews.

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) | 1674 comments Night Road is easily in my top 5 reads of all time. I hope you like it!

I've also read and enjoyed Handle with Care & Still Life.

Denise (derickert) | 1240 comments In my opinion you can never go wrong with an Elin Hilderbrand book. I have loved all her books I have read. I also have All The Bird in the Sky on my list too. Good luck with your challenge.

Lea (leaspot) | 3458 comments What a great list! I enjoyed Dune when I read it. I also have Silver Girl to read. It is sitting on my shelves reproaching me for not selecting it this year. I hope you enjoy it and force me to want to read it quickly too. Best wishes!

Ann at the Beach | 120 comments competed my first book ...Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland. It was a fascinating and disturbing book about the Troubles in Northern Ireland. I picked this book because I read another book by the same author Patrick Radden Keefelast year about the Sackler family and the opioid crisis. Both books were extremely well researched, very informative and very readable. I recommend both books.

One of the reasons I want to read Say Nothing is Empire of Pain, a favorite in 2022. So glad Say Nothing did not disappoint, I hope to get to it soon.

Ann at the Beach | 120 comments Finished book #2 Silver Girl I gave it 3 stars. Not my usual genre but it was a good fast paced story.

On to book #3 The Girl in the Plain Brown Wrapper--good old Travis.

Alondra -- I prefer Rhyme to Dance but enjoy them both. I have not tried any of the short stories...I will have to look into that.

I hear you. I may give Rhyme another chance. I just did not like his partner, Amelia (??). At least in the movie she was tolerable and eager to do the job. I don't know. Thanks Ann

Ann at the Beach | 120 comments Finished book #3 The Girl in the Plain Brown Wrapper **** I try to read at least one Travis adventure a year. January is usually a good reading month for me.... hopefully I will continue.....

It's an enjoyable series. I hope to get back to it this year.

Lindsey Gandhi (lindseygandhi) | 1119 comments Great progress on your list. You have alot of authors I like. I enjoyed Say Nothing as well. It was really fascinating. I'll have to check out his other book you liked too.

message 25: by Ann at the Beach (last edited Jan 23, 2023 05:35PM) (new)

Ann at the Beach | 120 comments Finished Night Road. So far I have read 3 books by this author Kristin Hannah. This was my least favorite but I still rated it **** -- I would give it 3.5 if I could. The Nightingale was far better in my opinion. I had a hard time with the characters in this book -- especially the mother.

Ann at the Beach | 120 comments Read another in the Reacher series Make Me by. Lee Child. Taking a turn off my list to read A Bend of Light by Joy Jordan-Lake--window shopping at the library.

Okay! 5 books down, and you are still enjoying the Reacher series, which is good to know.

Kudos, Ann!
