PattyMacDotComma Six Ostriches is the next in Philipp Schott's Canadian vet mystery series. I enjoyed it without knowing anything about the previous book, Fifty-Four Pigs. It's an entertaining mix of ancient Icelandic sagas, cults, sacrifices... and ostriches.
Six Ostriches by Philipp Schott 4 My review of Six Ostriches

Janice (jamasc) | 59025 comments I gave up on The Return of the Native. Classics are a hit or a miss for me. I've started Dracula instead.

message 156: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 18739 comments I'm in the middle of The Angel Maker, The Soulmate, and The House of Silk. They all have some sort of mystery component, so I'm working hard to keep all the characters and situations straight. I usually try not to read books that are too similar or in the same genre like this a the same time, but that's just the way it worked out.

PattyMacDotComma I was pretty sure that The Bullet That Missed would actually hit the mark. Of course I enjoyed Richard Osman's unusual Thursday Murder Club of elderly sleuths. Wonderful characters, actual danger.

PattyMacDotComma A Company of Laughing Faces is a curious and moving short story by South African Nadine Gordimer, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1991. In this, she captures the mixed feelings of a 17-year-old girl being pushed by her mother into the company of other young people.

Janice (jamasc) | 59025 comments I finished The House of Silk on ebook last night, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow on audiobook today. I was rather disappointed in Tomorrow. It wasn't exhilarating as the book blurb promised.

PattyMacDotComma Ah, I remember the heady scent of racing fuel at trackside! Young Lewis Hamilton was bitten early by the Grand Prix bug and grew to be the top Formula One driver and a Sir, no less. Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara shows how a talented black kid made good in a white man's sport.
