Chelsea Velarisner, I picked Killers of a Certain Age for you... I read it a few months ago, and it was a fun read!

message 52: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (riareadstoomuch) | 186 comments I just finished Jane Eyre, which superawesomekt picked for me, and I didn't really like it. But I still really enjoyed reading it!

Chelsea, for you I pick The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I loved this book! And I hope you like it, too :)

To the one who is next: Please pick a book from my physical tbr. Thank you :)

message 53: by Kailey (new)

Kailey McLeod (inkandoak) Miriam- for you I chose, from your physical TBR, The Great Gatsby. This is one of my all time favorite books, and one of the classics I had to read in high school and absolutely loved! I was just thinking about the classics I loved in high school- specifically, my all time favorite, The Catcher in the Rye, and a close second was The Great Gatsby. So I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! It taught me a lot about American culture and society, and helped me understand a lot I hadn’t yet understood at the time. Enjoy!

I am having a hard time picking a new book so hopefully this will help!

message 54: by Mariam (new)

Mariam Cheshire (mariam1972) | 4 comments Hi Kailey - I read "The Great Gatsby" maybe 50 years ago and I agree that it would be a good one to read again. "Catcher in the Rye" was banned (can you believe!) when I looked for it at the Library and I didn't check again. Your suggestion is good and I'll go find it now.

Two authors I've been reading the past several months:
Jon Talton -- I'm not a mystery fan but his stories are based where I live and so I've enjoyed them.
Edward Abbey ( his most famous is probably the "The Monkey Wrench Gang." ) He has a way of using words so neatly that I go back and read the pages again to find out how he did it.

With my books, you might like the series: "The Alternate Safe World of Sanctuary - Revised 2022" and "Return to Sanctuary - Plague"

Thanks for writing. I've enjoyed our conversation.
Mariam

Lindsay, I pick The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson for you. I'm a big fan of his work, and I've heard really good things about this series. I hope you like it!

Hi Carrie,
I didn't see any books on your list that I have read, but one is a book I was interested in reading and would like to know how you like it. For the Wolf (Wilderwood #1) by Hannah F. Whitten.

I've slowed up quite a bit on my pace of reading due to less free time available, so I may take quite awhile to read my next book. Could the next person please pick from my Rec-Books list:
/review/list...

Thanks!

message 70: by Cheryl (last edited Jul 16, 2023 02:20PM) (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) JoJo_theDoDo, I see that you have The Princess Bride on your shelf! Now, it may not work to read it as an adult, and after seeing the movie, but you have to try it!

I had to dnf the book I was working on, so I need somebody to choose from my on-deck shelf: /review/list...

message 71: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 87 comments Cheryl, for you I choose Not Forgetting the Whale. I've never heard of this book, and it looks very interesting.

Whoever is next, please pick from my "Up Next" bookshelf:
/review/list...

message 72: by Pixiegirl105 (new)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Finished If We Were Villains. It was okay, but I have read books in that same genre that were better at character development. I didn't really get the feeling any of them actually changed by the end.

Brittany, I chose Lady Tan's Circle of Women for you.

message 73: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Brittany, thank you, Not Forgetting the Whale was wonderful.

Pixiegirl105, I enjoyed Catfishing on CatNet and think you will too.

Next person, please choose from my on-deck shelf: /review/list...

message 74: by Marla (last edited Aug 07, 2023 05:45PM) (new)

Marla | 36 comments I finally finished Rich People Problems from last year.

Cheryl, I'm not familiar with most of your books, but I choose The Mennyms for you. I'm not sure if it will be sweet or creepy.

Next person, please pick me a book from my on-deck shelf:

For me, please, pick something from my want to read list. TY

message 76: by Pixiegirl105 (last edited Aug 11, 2023 11:08PM) (new)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Cheryl, Catfishing on Catnet is great and i can't wait to read the sequel!

Zelijka, I pick The Red Pyramid, this is a great and fun series! (and now i have to reread it!)

message 77: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Marla, The Mennyms was sometimes sweet, sometimes creepy, sometimes funny, but mostly a pretty good family story. Thank you so much; I'm delighted to have read it.

Pixiegirl105 I'm so glad you liked Catfishing on Catnet. It's my turn to recommend again, so I went deep into the past on your to-read shelf. I hope you like Where the Sidewalk Ends just half as much as I do... I had the whole set when my sons were little.

Next person, please pick from my on-deck digital-books shelf; you might not recognize anything but surely something will intrigue:
/review/list...

message 78: by Pixiegirl105 (new)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments All done with Where the Sidewalk Ends. I feel like it was meant for neurodivergents like me! loved it.

I think for you Cheryl, I'm going with Orion Lost
(had to add to my own TBR. i swear i'm just adding more by looking at other TBRs lol)

message 79: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Orion Lost was great fun, thank you, Pixiegirl105.

I'm going to go ahead and recommend it right back at you. :)

Whoever's next, please pick one of my digital books, that is to say, from this shelf: /review/list...

Pony Xaviors (ponyxaviors) | 534 comments Cheryl wrote: Whoever's next, please pick one of my digital books, that is to say, from this she..."

Cheryl, I choose The Wombles for you, because based on the date added it's been waiting on that shelf the longest and I think it deserves its turn :)

I'm ready for an assignment from whoever's next!
(I just joined this group and found this thread today. This is SUCH a cool idea!)

Edit: Please choose from either of these shelves (whichever strikes your fancy).
Books in my library: /review/list...
Books in my house: /review/list...

message 81: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Pony, that's an excellent reason to choose a title, that it's been longest on the shelf. The Wombles was a fun fast read and I'm glad I've got it done.

You've not read The Hobbit yet? Ah, well, if you like it half as much as I did, the five times or so that I've read it over the decades, you'll be wondering why you're only doing so now.... Have fun!

Next person, please choose from my on-deck shelf: /review/list...

message 82: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 37 comments Hi Cheryl,

For you I choose Old Winkle and the Seagulls, based purely off the fun title!

I finally finished The Way of Kings and LOVED it. Now I am ready for my next read.

Whoever picks for me- please choose from my ‘own this have not read yet shelf, or the much shorter ‘pick for me shelf.

Thank you and happy reading!!!!

message 83: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Lindsay, thank you for getting Old Winkle off my list. Turns out it was a picture-book, so I'm done already.

I choose for you All Quiet on the Western Front. Intense, yes, but short and beautifully written.

Next person, please choose from my on-deck shelf: /review/list...

message 84: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 87 comments Cheryl, for you, I choose When Breath Becomes Air. I have not read it, but I've heard it's good.

Whoever picks for me, please choose from my Owned-TBR shelf. Thanks!

message 85: by Cheryl (last edited Sep 14, 2023 06:51PM) (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm going to count When Breath Becomes Air as done, for the purposes of this relay. Because it has become available in paper, my preferred format. So I've prioritized it, thank you! But I still need to work on digital books, so I'm asking for another rec.

Watership Down is a longer book than I prefer, but I've read it twice, so I think it's worth recommending to you. And it's been on your shelf for awhile, so it's time. :)

Next person, please choose from my on-deck shelf: /review/list...

message 86: by Marla (new)

 Marla | 36 comments Completion Post: 2023 Msg 74

I finished Emily of New Moon by L.M. Montgomery (9/13/23) ★★★★
Very sweet story of another outspoken orphan girl taken in by unmarried siblings. I can't decide if I like Emily of New Moon better than Anne of Green Gables. But that's high praise coming from me.

message 87: by Marla (last edited Sep 15, 2023 05:54PM) (new)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Marla, the next person who posts will look at my TBR list. I make it simple

message 91: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (riareadstoomuch) | 186 comments Pixiegirl, for you I choose The Catcher in the Rye. It's one of my three top favourite books, and I think about it a lot during my day-to-day life.

To the person choosing for me: please pick a book from my up-next-list. (It will be my first book for this year's house cup challenge, so choose wisely :))

Thank you :)

message 92: by Lina (new)

Lina | 182 comments Its been a while since I last commented here. I have finished The Priory of the Orange Tree - and really liked most of the characters and the world building - (view spoiler). But I did overall really enjoy the book, so thanks for picking it for me :)

Miriam - for you I will chose The Picture of Dorian Grey - because though I havent read it yet either, I have been meaning to, and would love to read it at the same time and discuss after, if you feel like it! I think it would also fit the House Cup Challenge pretty well - and October in general.
(Else, if you do not want to do that and would rather I pick one I have already read, I choose 'I'm glad my mom died', which I read at the beginning of this year and can definitely recommend! Would love to know what you think of it.)

For whoever picks my next book, please choose from my want-to-read list - or, if you can not find anything there, choose a book from my 'owned-tbr' instead. Thanks! :)

message 93: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) The Princess Test is short and cute, thank you for the rec.

Lina, October seems like a good month to read some Poe, so I rec. Annabel Lee from your shelf.

Next person, please choose from my digital list: /review/list...

message 94: by Chaela (new)

Chaela (thelittlestmermaid) | 51 comments Cheryl - for you I have chosen Till We Have Faces
This seems like a really intriguing book and I hope you enjoy it!

If the next person could pick from my NetGalley tbr list that would be great :)

/review/list...

message 95: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Well, strike Till We Have Faces off my list. I couldn't appreciate it, but it's gone, so thank you.

Chaela, Dear Wendy actually looks quite charming. I'd love to learn what you think of it.

Next person please choose from my on-deck ebooks:
/review/list...

message 96: by Zeljka (new)

Zeljka | 470 comments Pixiegirl105 thank you for choosing The Red pyramid I really liked it, especially as this was an audiobook and the narrators were amazing, they had the whole spectrum of voices so all the time you knew which charachter was talking.

Cheryl for you I chose: The Collected Short Stories of Saki

It is rather high rated and the comments say that it is beautifully written and witty. I hope you will enjoy it!

Whoever picks for me, pick it from my tbr (want to read) list. Thank you:)

message 97: by Lina (last edited Nov 09, 2023 01:19AM) (new)

Lina | 182 comments Cheryl, thank you for picking Annabel Lee for me - I loved re-reading it and some short-stories by Poe!

Zeljka, for you I pick Homegoing - which I read in spring and would definitely recommend! I will be looking forward to hearing what you think!
We believe the one who has power. He is the one who gets to write the story. So when you study history, you must ask yourself, Whose story am I missing? Whose voice was suppressed so that this voice could come forth? Once you have figured that out, you must find that story too. From there you get a clearer, yet still imperfect, picture.
~Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
Whoever picks for me, please pick from my want to read-list. Thanks! :)

message 98: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (riareadstoomuch) | 186 comments Thank you so much for picking The Picture of Dorian Gray for me, Lina!
So now I am to pick for you...
For you I chose Frankenstein. I haven't read it myself, but I think it's the perfect time of the year to read it (even though October is over already)!

To the person choosing for me: please pick a book from my up-next-list.

message 99: by Rowiey (new)

Rowiey | 129 comments Hi Miriam, I pick Anne of Avonlea for your next read!

Next person please pick from; my kindle shelf

message 100: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Zeljka, I loved the Saki book, thank you!

Rowiey, I love fractured fairy tales, so I hope you enjoy Rapunzel: A Magic Beans Story. Let us know if it's as good as we hope!

Next person, please pick (randomly is fine) from my ebook shelf: /review/list....
