Up Next - books on hold:

If I don't remember to order the next in the series immediately after I finish one of the books, the rest get forgotten.
Simon Vance is also my favorite narrator. While planning my 2023 books, I decided to read as many of his narrations as possible, no matter the subject.

Too funny, Almeta, but I did the same thing. I ran a library search and added all of the audiobooks that he had narrated (that I had not already listened to) to my wish list. I found many good stories that way. I really only found one that I did not care for. It is amazing how many books and series he has narrated!
You may want to check out Michael Page. He has become another favorite.

Yeah, it was too bad that they could not keep it up. It took a l-o-n-g time to find and update all of the series I had up until then.

I got an email from FictFact, or one of the owners. It was a Christmas greeting. I've been meaning to check if it's back up. The email is on my work computer, so I'll check it out in the morning.

Otherwise, I'm going to be spending a lot of time working on my series spreadsheets.

I really liked the third story and how the trilogy ended. I am actually doing a re-listen to the first and second book in the trilogy - just as a re-fresher and because I love listening to Simon so much.
Dragonslayer killed Jan 18th .
Two down and I haven't started a new series yet.

If you are into Sherlock Holmes and admire the Doyle cannon, then you should love Bonnie MacBird's stories. She has a great sense of humor and good grasp of the characters. She does her research on the locations and history of the time. She writes a pretty good story with good plots, IMO.
Baird has a link in all of her ebooks to her website, where she does a chapter by chapter info like BookDrum for locations, names, products, music, etc. Good stuff! She intimated that Mrs. Hudson may be the one who irons for Holmes. Note: Her author's page info is not up to date here in GR.

There are currently four books in the series and a fifth to be released in September.

I am starting an old Tarzan story for the toppler. I do not have the PelLucidar series on my list. I know that I read it years and years ago, so I will not even count it at an orphan. Tarzan at the Earth's Core.
I discovered The Beasts of Tarzan in my grandmother's piano cabinet when I was visiting her one summer. I think I was 11 yo. I bought the whole series in paperback over a couple of years in the 80's. I have no idea where they are today though.

I am just starting on the last book of the Pellucidar series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, although technically I just finished the last real “book of the series, written by him. The 7th book is a collection of short stories published 12 years after he passed. It was published in 1966. I am looking forward to the cover story, Savage Pellucidar. Burroughs had a great sense of humor and a fantastic imagination.

I really liked the third story and how the tril..."
Look at you go! I started and killed one but it was a duology. Dom and I will finish one this month.

I finished The Murder on the Links and have updated my Poirot list by one more book.

The Rubber Band. I wish it was an audiobook, but ebook will do.

Still working from home, still reading and listening to a lot of audiobooks books.
Haven't gone anywhere except to my back yard to do yard work.
Was sick for a couple of weeks but I am well now. Finally getting my energy back to do more than sit in my chair reading.
I keep thinking that I need to come here and post some of my books, but it seems to get put off every day. I DO read the threads, I just don't get on to post much.
I discovered some new(old) Nero Wolfe series books from my library and finished the one above. I have re-listened to a couple of audio books. One I am re-listening to right now is Some Buried Caesar. Michael Pritchard is such a great voice for Archie Goodwin and Wolfe. I am reading Archie Meets Nero Wolfe.
I am currently reading A Tempest at Sea- the latest Lady Sherlock series book.

I finished A Tempest at Sea - Lady Sherlock for an orphan read and my first book for Badge 2 for my yearly challenge.
I really enjoyed the Robert Goldsborough story of when Archie met Nero Wolf. I read the first book in the series at least two years ago, but was not sure I was going to continue. I have added his series to my list.
Believe it or not, I think I listened to the first two of Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider series books from my library.
The first was Stormbreaker , #2 Point Blank, I have #3 Skeleton Key on hold.
I will add these to my list when I finish #3. I think there are 12 but there are a slew of in-between stories so it is confusing.

I have to catch up on posting the Comisario Brunetti series books by
Donna Leon. I have listened to way more than I have posted.

Get them added!

What are "orphans", though?

What we call "orphans" are books that are published after one declares a series killed - when you have read all of the currently published volumes. Okay?
Example: I declared the Outlander series, by Diana Gabaldon killed in April of 2020. Since then, book #9 Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone was published in Nov of 2021. This one will be an orphan for me when I read it.

Killed by me:
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
Mostly killed (cannot exactly remember as I read those in the 1980s)
Hercule Poirot by Agatha Christie
Miss Marple by Agatha Christie
Not yet started, but planning to read one fine day:
Guardians of Ga’Hoole by Kathryn Lasky
Thursday Next by Jasper Fforde
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith
Working on:
A Chet and Bernie Mystery Series by Spencer Quinn
On my “maybe list:
Dublin Murder Squad by Tana French
Abandoned:
Kurt Wallander by Henning Mankell (read two or three but did not get “hooked)
Commissario Brunetti by Donna Leon (DNF’d one book, no idea why I did not like it)
Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (I think I read the first two or three books and then did not continue when new ones came out after that)

Re your abandoned list:
For some reason, I really like Kurt Wallander. He is such a sad character, but the stories are facinating to me. I usually try to listen to the audiobooks, when I can, but my library does not have them all.
My library has all of the Comisario Brunetti by Donna Leon in both audiobook and ebook. I love the characters, especially Guido's wife. The trivia about Italy and Venice are interesting and I enjoy the stories.
I fell in love with Outlander because of the audiobook narrator's voice. I could listen to the stories over and over, and have! I have been saving the last audiobook for quite a while (I have it from Audible). I have never watched the TV series.
All of us have different reasons for following series, and it is a good thing that there are so many out there!

I think I tried the Donna Leon book in German. It was waaaay back in the 1990's, book 3 of the series, iirc.

You really like this series, Cherie. I may have to check it out soon. It looks like they're all available for Kindle through Libby. It's a long series.

I haven't read any of them, but maybe I should try one. I have four books left. Two are on hold. I might pick one of the last ones to read instead of listening to it. :0)
