I heard this book is a good read but that there are hints of gay content, so i'm not sure if it is actually the case. I also came across a discussion on goodreads where many claimed that it has gay content. I'm not sure if the author wrote the story with this intention or just a normal friendship. Has anyone read this before? What's your take on this?

I read this many years ago while in middle school and there was no gay content. If there has been a variation of Dumas' story through films or movies, I don't have knowledge of that. Hopefully this fabulous classic has not been edited because it remains one of my all-time favorites.

Ditto what Theresa said. Nothing dirty in the count of Monte Cristo. The 3 Musketeers is also really good. the man in the Iron mask is good too, but the title is misleading. All the original Dumas translations are Excellent classics.

Certainly no gay content in the novel as written! Some folks will claim any normal friendship of same gender are gay. I’ll bet the person who said so, had only seen a movie. WELL WORTH THE READ!

Oh yes, the Man in the Iron Mask is great as well.

The count of monte Christo is clean

Right. No gay content in it. There is some opium use and related dreams, one of which is sensual, but that also depends on what translation is used as some translators pick more risqué words.
