45. A Grave Robbery (Veronica Speedwell, #9) by Deanna Raybourn

5 stars

The latest edition of one of my all time favorite series, I absolutely loved every minute of this book. The character development was superb and the storyline kept my attention the entire time. I'm sad though, that the dialogue at the end of the book seems to hint that this is the last book in the series. I really hope that's not the case and there will be more adventures with Veronica and Stoker yet to come!

My reading slowed down a bit this month to make room for real life stuff that needed my attention. Overall a solid month and there were really no reading duds this month!

Another slower month, as I've focused on yard work and hosting gatherings with friends and family in our beautiful spring weather!

56. Carnival Creeps (Sinner's Sideshow Duet #2) by Aiden Pierce

4 stars

This book definitely pushes boundaries, but in spite of all the 'ick', I really enjoyed the world building and the characters. It has a larger page count, but it was a quick read and I'm jumping right into the second book of this duet series.

57. Circus Creeps (Sinner's Sideshow, #1) by Aiden Pierce

4 stars

Wow, this book starts with almost a full page of trigger warnings, most of which I had no idea what they even meant. All I knew is that I was in for a dark and wild ride through a circus like no other...

'Ladies and Gents leave your moral compass at the ticket booth and come on in to the dirtiest, darkest freak-circus around!'

This kind of thing is just not my cup of tea. However, the story mostly worked for me, mostly for the complete shock value I felt while reading something this depraved. I actually couldn't read it when my kids were in the same room as me, even though they couldn't see the book since I was on my Kindle. It's the kind of uncomfortableness that makes books like 50 Shades of Grey feel like a PG rated cartoon.

This book is a bad, bad mother-f****r. It makes no apologies for its nastiness and I couldn't help but fall a bit in love with Meg and her crazy-arsed polyamorous relationship of demons, psycho-clowns and maybe the Devil himself.

In spite of its intensity and gore, it's actually a pretty solid story. The world building is mesmerizing and the character development was good. But, this is a genre I'm only interested in tip-toeing in, and my next read will have lots of light hearted fluff to make me feel human again.

Read at your own risk (insert manically evil clown laugh here).

59. Lady Avely's Guide to Truth and Magic (Matronly Misadventures #1) by Rosalie Oaks

2.5 stars

This book had a good plot but the writing was a fail. The protagonist was wooden and cliché' that was not likable at all. There were also references to things not in the book, that made it seem like there was a prelude, or I had accidently started mid-series, but no this is the first book in the series. That was irritating. I finished the book but have no interest in continuing on with the series or reading this author again.

60. Your Coffin or Mine (Monster Bae, #1) by Jacklyn Hyde

4 stars

A silly, lighthearted, and surprisingly spicy debut novel. Will definitely read the next book in the series when it comes out!

61. Lethal Vows (Lethal Vows, #1) by T.L. Smith

4 stars

This was a whim read, after I noticed that it was being read by the author of the last book I had read. It was a Kindle Unlimited option so I figured I didn't have anything to lose by giving it a try and I'm glad I did! It's definitely a darker romance and it isn't going to be for everyone, but the character development was solid and the plot was interesting.

I thought about adding the author's other books to my tbr list, but after browsing through them it looks like she mostly writes stories with bdsm being a focal part, and I don't really enjoy reading books like that. So for now I'll just wait and see if there will be any new additions to this series down the road.

69. Queen Takes Knights (Their Vampire Queen, #1) by Joely Sue Burkhart

4 stars

I almost dnf'd this book, the first 3rd of it was so cringe worthy. But, I was bored and there was alcohol involved, so what the hey, I kept reading. And wow, I'm so glad I did, this book actually turned out to be kind of awesome. Definitely one that I shouldn't like, but loved just a little bit.

Fantasy reverse-harem books seem to all follow the same pattern. What makes this series stand apart is the M characters are all pretty unique and have interesting backstories.
