Katy | 524 comments I am always curious to learn what books Constant readers found under their Christmas trees .
We found some interesting titles including: Martin Walker A CHATEAU UNDER SIEGE, Willa Cather O PIONEERS, Mark Helprin THE OCEANS AND THE STARS, Peter Lynch PROPHETSONG, Candice Milllard THE RIVER OF DOUBT, Mike Duncan THE STORM BEFORE THE STORM, Eliot Cohen THE HOLLOW CROWN - SHAKESPEARE ON HOW LEADERS RISE RULE AND FALL, Brooke Barbier KING HANCOCK. I think these should keep us busy until summer. What was under your tree?

Donna (drspoon) | 415 comments Under my tree, thanks to some well-placed hints:

Great Circle

Lady Tan's Circle of Women

My Father's House

Tom Lake

The Ministry for the Future

The Empress Matilda: Queen Consort, Queen Mother and Lady of the English

And a nicely loaded Barnes and Noble gift card.

An embarrassment of riches!

Erika (erika-is-reading) | 40 comments I do the shopping, including for myself, so the only wrapped book was Tom Lake. I bought my husband Somebody's Fool and will read it (probably first, because he's devouring the Slow Horses series this week). To be fair, though, I loaded up earlier in the month for myself . . . just didn't wrap anything.

From my college roommate, The Thursday Murder Club, Three Bags Full, The Watchmaker of Filigree Street, and (though I've read it already) Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries. (After 35 years, we still send each other a stack of books every Christmas!)

Lynn | 2211 comments Wow, Santa was really good to both of you this year! I didn't get any books (because I didn't ask for any) but my younger grandson (15 yrs old) got plenty. And he's already planning what books to buy with the gift cards he received. I love how much he enjoys reading - after the gifts were all unwrapped, he took his new weighted blanket to the couch in the family room and spent the next two hours reading.

Shirley | 119 comments That’s wonderful, Lynne!

Shirley | 119 comments I used to have will power when buying books for the IPad, but with BookBub, I’ve recently reached a new low, having amassed a large overstock of downloads, yet to be read.
So under my tree, an Audible gift card, an enticement to get on the treadmill.

Maureen (maursbooks) | 37 comments This is a book my daughter gifted to me An Advent Carols Countdown Stories Behind the Most Beloved Music of Christmas by Michael D. Young
It is a wonderful book explaining the origin of the carols and has a QR code to listen to a performance of the song while you read.
I am reading it very slowly.

Gina Whitlock (ginawhitlock) | 2215 comments I didn't get any books for the holidays, but I've given myself Audible for at least a year.

Katy | 524 comments I find that increasingly in my family printed books are diminishing in popularity and Kindle is the vehicle of choice, followed by Audible and books borrowed in digital format from the library. My husband and I are still print oriented, but have little space for books. We lend them to friends or donate them to the little libraries around our neighborhood.

Erika (erika-is-reading) | 40 comments We are print oriented. Even my kids (19 and 11) are print oriented. Space is an issue but I don’t mind every wall being solid books. When we travel, we usually drive (eg rent a car) and hit independent bookstores.

Lyn Dahlstrom | 1319 comments I had wall to wall books for years, but my friends got very tired of carting those plus my rock/fossils collection when I moved! I donated most of my books, and for the last decade read more than ever, but get almost everything either from my local library or a Kindle download from Library2Go. I feel good about the sharing that patronizing a library entails.

So no gifts of books this year, rather a nice ceramic cookware set, a new camera, and a multiday river trip.

Erika (erika-is-reading) | 40 comments I've been lucky enough to afford (or have employers who afforded) professional movers, who pack me and move me. But every single time, they misjudge (halve) the number of book boxes they need. And every single time, I tell them. "Lady," they say, "we do this for a living."

And every single time, halfway through the day, they send out for another 100 boxes.

Erika

Every single time.
