I'll be curious to know what you think of Life of Pi if you manage to get to it. When you do pick it up and enjoy it, I recommend the movie aswell :)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Hey Alison,
First of all, congratulations on reaching your goal for 2024! 🥳 That's so awesome!

You directed a message at me on another member's thread, so I'm answering here:
Alison wrote: "Lisa I have Boxalls books and Guardians 1,000 books on a list to read before I die too. I'm not doing a good job getting to them though. I'm really into thrillers right now."

It looks like you're getting though some of them though.
As I was saying in Sharon's thread, I personally think sometimes we, or rather I, "forget" we only have one lifetime, when faced with "books to read before xyz" or "most influential books of xyz" type lists. Like, do I wish I could read all of Boxall's mentions? Sure. But realistically there's lots that don't interest me, or that just haven't aged well, but I also don't want to sacrifice enjoying new releases in the process of achieving that, you know? Like everything else, it's about balance. Read what makes you happy and leave it at that.

I love thrillers aswell though. Which ones have stood out thus far?
I'm excited to see what you'll be reading next, Alison! Have fun and happy reading! 😊

You're cruising by, Alison - Way to go! Any new favorites? I was just looking through your books, and wanted to ask if you'd recommend The Secret Family?

Wishing you a fantastic week, and continued great reading year 😊 📚.

message 11: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1189 comments I think The Secret Family and Shes Not Sorry are my favorites this year. but I'm into thrillers like everyone is right now.

message 12: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1189 comments I started Frankenstein for Halloween and I can't get into it. I don't understand these letters at the beginning. They are probably important so I'm not skipping them, but the old English is hard to understand. I'll keep up with it, but to get me back into reading I am starting The Gift by Freida McFadden. it's a short book of hers.

message 13: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1189 comments ok so I just finished The Gift by Freida McFadden. it was only 50 pages long. This was the first book of hers I did not like. it was supposed to be her interpretation of Gift of the Magi. I seriously thought it was written as an interpretation of Ironic by Alanis Morrisette. Almost all of what happened in the song happened in the book. There was a twist at the end, but the book still wasn't good. It needed to be longer.

message 14: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1189 comments a couple days ago I finished The Girl on the Train. it was pretty good. the first half was pretty boring and it took a while for the excitement to start.

message 15: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1189 comments the one thing about Girl on a Train that bothered me was the England slang. I get it that the author is from England, but being from the US, I don't know all their different words. I do know some but there were quite a few I had to look up

message 16: by Alina (new)

Alina | 228 comments way to go Alison! You almost nailed your goal for 2024!

I remember reading girl on the train a few years back but I ended up DNFing it because I thought it was boring - maybe I should give it another go.
