The Trial by Rob Rinder

"ONE MURDER. ONE IMPOSSIBLE CASE. WHO IS GUILTY?

When hero policeman Grant Cliveden dies from a poisoning in the Old Bailey, it threatens to shake the country to its core.

The evidence points to one man. Jimmy Knight has been convicted of multiple offences before and defending him will be no easy task. Not least because this is trainee barrister Adam Green's first case.

But it will quickly become clear that Jimmy Knight is not the only person in Cliveden's past with an axe to grind.

The only thing that's certain is that this is a trial which will push Adam - and the justice system itself - to the limit"

Icewineanne | 41 comments Chris, hope that you enjoy it when you finally get a copy!
Let me know your thoughts 🌻

Chris (chrissieml) | 39 comments Just started. Getting definite ‘I’ve done this job so I know exactly what I am talking about vibes from it.

Chris (chrissieml) | 39 comments Finished and rated it 3.5 stars. Bit of a rush job towards the end because I wanted to see how it would get resolved. Slightly unsatisfactory and I don’t know if I will rush to read another from him.

Shell (whodoneit) | 23 comments I quite enjoyed this one. It was a twisty story, with good characters. I liked the conversations with his Jewish Mum. I will read the next one, have it here waiting, but it's not top of my list. Just something missing somehow.

Icewineanne | 41 comments Glad you enjoyed it Shell. I enjoyed the humour in this book, although I found the ending a bit rushed.

Chris, I’m surprised that you still gave it 3.5 stars, especially since you weren’t overly thrilled with the book and probably won’t be reading any more books by him. What did you dislike about it?

Shell (whodoneit) | 23 comments I wondered if anyone has read A higher Duty by Peter Murphy? It was written in 2012 and the basic set up is so similar. A young Jewish Lawyer getting his first job and battling with a female to get a permenant place at the law firm. I thought the Murphey was a better all round read, but both books were very interesting.

I’m not familiar with this book or the author, Shell. I’ll add it to my list. Glad you mentioned it. Always enjoy finding a new series to try.

It's hard to put my finger on it. Just a general feeling of slight dissatisfaction and disappointment...
