Hello Timeless Pages members! So happy to have you all in our group! Just want to send a little update now that we've reached May. Can't believe it's only been 3 weeks since we started the group 😲😀

I hope everyone's spring has been amazing! This is my favorite time of the year.

Anyways, on to business; our monthly featured have been voted on. Here are April's Featured, being shown in May.

This Day in History: The Past- The start of the American Revolution: April 19th of 1775

This Day in History: The Present- The Solar Eclipse; April 8, 2024

Historic Hero- Irena Sendler was a polish maintenance worker at a ghetto during WW2. She used her job as a way to smuggle babies and children out. She saved the lives of around 2,500 children.

Historical Hiker- Elizabeth Blackwell was the first female doctor and paved the way for many more to follow.

Our May BotM is The Light in Hidden Places by Sharon Cameron so be sure to check that out, we'd love to have you join if you can!

Hey guys!! So happy to have you on our group, Timeless Pages!

Summer is rolling up fast, it’s crazy how time flies by. What are y’all’s plans for the summer? Feel free to shoot me a message or post in the General Chat on the group. I’m sending this less then a day before I go on my first plane ride. I’m SO excited! Our family is flying out to Boston, MA for the weekend since we have a family reunion out there. Can’t wait!

Now for the more serious stuff (it’s still fun tho 😉)
Our BOTM and Monthly Featured have been voted on.

This Day in History: The Past- The sinking of the RMS Lusitania on May 7, 1915
This Day in History: The Present- May 10- Solar storm that makes northern lights visible down to Alabama (Fun fact about this: It was the strongest magnetic storm since January 2005!)
Historic Hero- Amy Carmichael; she was an Irish missionary in India who rescued and helped many temple girls. She would sneak in the temple and steal them out. She ended up starting a village where she lived with all her girls and other helpers.
Historical Hiker- Jackie Robinson, first African-American MLB player.

For our June BOTM we will be reading The Book Thief.

The discussion thread for that is here /topic/show/... I really hope to see you join in on it!

If you haven't introduced yourself yet we'd love to have you do that here!
/topic/show/...
Of course if you don't feel comfortable doing it that is completely fine! No pressure.

I’m so grateful for each and every one of you, can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us.

Also you may have seen this already but we have a new Mod!! Welcome Jasmine to the title of Mod!

If you have questions feel free to message me, BooksNCrannies, or Jasmine; or ask on the question thread, here:

Have a fun summer! And don't forget to make it worth remembering. Live your life for Jesus!

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1178 comments July 2024 Newsletter

How is half the year gone already?! Wow. Time flies so fast. How has your summer been so far? Our trip went well and it's good to get back into the daily rhythm of life again. We're a little busy right now planning for our annual fourth of July party and fireworks show that we do. And we butchered close to 100 chickens yesterday.

What are some things you're really looking forward to this year?

For me it's the twins (my mom is pregnant with twins), our annual church campout weekend, and our biannual reunion with some of my funnest second cousins!

This month we didn't have as many things nominated which meant we didn't have to have as many polls.

Our current Monthly Featured (we really need a better name for it then that. If you have suggestions for something that flows better and isn't quite so boring let me know 😉)

This Day in History: The Past- The D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944, during WW2

This Day in History: The Present- the United States experienced the largest attack since WWII. It happened in the Middle East and many American ships were attacked.

Historic Hero- Winston Churchill because of his valor and willingness not to surrender to the Axis Powers when Britain was, more or less, alone in fighting them (before the U.S. entered WWII and after France had surrendered).

Historical Hiker- Rosa Parks for standing up against segregation

Our BotM this year is... *drumroll please* a book by Ruta Sepetys! Salt to the Sea was the one with the highest votes. Super excited to dive into another of her books since I loved Fountains of Silence.

The discussion thread for that is here... /topic/show/...
I hope to see you join!

Here are the nomination threads for this month,

BOTM- /topic/show/...

And the Monthly Featured folder- /topic/group...
Not all this months topics are made yet but keep your eye open for them!

Also an update on BOTM nominations, starting in the month of July, a book will only make it to the poll if it has at least one second.

If you're new to the group and haven't introduced yourself yet we'd love to have you do that here... /topic/show/...

If you have questions feel free to message any of the three mods, Me, BooksNCrannies, or Jasmine. Or you can ask in this thread... /topic/show/...

Thank you guys so much for being a part of this group! I love having you all here!

If you love the group we would greatly appreciate if you would invite your friends to join 😉

Hope the rest of your summer is amazing and God bless! Once again, don't forget to make sure your actions point to God, the author of our salvation, and the creator of our world and us. He deserves all the glory we could ever give Him!

With love,
Elisabeth

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1178 comments August 2024 Newsletter

Hello hello everyone! I know I'm late, I try to send this message out the first day of the month. But, well, my life has been hectic lately. As the due date for the twins gets closer, my mom gets tireder, and I get busier. But I wanna offer Jesus thanks for the overwhelming amount of peace I've been feeling in the midst of this chaos. The peace I've been feeling has been unexpected, but so welcome. Here's a short passage I'd like to share with you,

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
(read the full chapter here: )

Sometimes you get that peace, and it just doesn't make sense for your circumstances, and it just makes you wanna sing for joy!

Enough about me tho, how have you all been? What has Jesus been showing you? What cool historical facts have you learned this last month?

It's a little unbelievable to me that August is already here. For those of you that go to school, when is it starting up for you again? You excited?

I'm actually finished with school now so I don't have any I have to do but I'm planning on finding an elective or two to take this next school year since I enjoy school and like having something I have to do, it keeps me on track. lol

Here's the updates for the month:

Our current Monthly Featured:

This Day in History: The Past- July 4th, 1776 - The signing of the Declaration of Independence.

This Day in History: The Present- July 13th, 2024 - The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Historic Hero- Corrie Ten Boom, who hid Jews during WW2, was betrayed and caught for it, and then hosted Bible studies in the concentration camp.

Historical Hiker- Pierre and Marie Curie for their many contributions to the field of chemistry. Especially their discovery of new elements.

I'm excited to announce that our BOTM winner this month is The Cat of Bubastes by G. A. Henty. I've been wanting this book to win since the group started, since it's been on my TBR for a long time and I need motivation to read it. Looking forward to reading that with you all this month!

Here's the discussion thread for that.../topic/show/...

Hope you have an amazing Monday, I know that isn't everybody's favorite day (mine either), but it can still be a good day! God bless you all today as you go about the tasks He has arranged for you. Don't forget that everything you do can be a service to Him. Look for ways you can serve those around you this week.

Hello, all! It’s SEPTEMBER! I am so excited about autumn, and winter, and christmas, and all those lovely things. I love the fall weather we’ve been having. Fall to me has always seemed to be a season of thankfulness, maybe because that’s when thanksgiving is. But whatever the reason, I think it’s fitting. As the year draws to a close we can remember what Jesus has done for us over the past year, some of us have had harder year than others, and that’s ok. He is still good no matter what our year or years have been like.

I don’t think I’ve looked forward to and been in awe of the changing seasons as much as I have been this year. This fall weather today has me feeling like twirling. It’s warm but there’s just a very slight cool breeze that feels incredible. It’s getting into open windows and sweater weather and I’m all for it!

What are some things you are thanking Jesus for right now? And what are some things you’re looking forward to the rest of this year? Are you excited for the end of summer and beginning of fall?

I’m currently praising Jesus for the safe arrival of my twin brothers, David and Jonathan. They are two precious little bundles and I couldn’t be more happy. Also very thankful that my mom is feeling better now! She’s still tired and prayers would be appreciated, but she’s doing good. A few things I’m looking forward to is my best friend’s visit in a couple weeks, our annual church campout coming up in october, our biannual thanksgiving reunion, and christmas!

I’ve rambled on long enough but one of my favorite historical fictions won BOTM this month!! SO excited to read this with y’all! It is The War that Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. This book hit me hard when I read it. I do want to make sure you’re aware that the topics of physical abuse and neglect are covered in here so if those are hard topics for you this may not be the book for you. That said, I really hope many of you can read this with us! I love that our group is growing and I would love to get y’all more active and involved. Here’s the link to the BOTM discussion thread: /topic/show/...

ALSO a little announcement here! We’re at 71 members and we wanna hit 100 by the end of the year, can y’all help us do that?! Invite your history loving friends to join the group!

God bless you all in this next month, I hope school is going well for those of you that have started! Praying for you all!

Hello, y’all! I can't beleaf it's fall! 🤭 Another month has arrived, pushing September 2024 off the calendar forever. October is here. And with it, Autumn performs her transfiguring magic on the world of greenery. 🍁🍁🍂🍂 What a rich display of colors are exhibited in the trees all around where I live. With the sun's retreating path to the south, cold weather follows in its wake. I love the crispness in the air!

Like what could be better than waking up on a crisp morning enjoying a steaming cup of pumpkin spice latte, the tantalizing aroma of cinnamon crackle cookies baking in the oven, and autumn leaves falling from the trees? Not to mention a warm, cozy chair and a good book! This time of year is just... well, just that time of year when the closeness of family, the blessing of friends, and the enjoyment of good times become more meaningful.

What do you enjoy most about autumn? Comment in the General Chat if you like.

Over the past month, we mods have made many changes to group. We've added new folders, renamed a few things, and updated a couple other aspects to improve the overall group appearance. So if you haven't checked out the group in a while, now’s a great time to do that!
Moving on

Our BoTM is A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen. I've been wanting to read this book for quite a while now so it will be fun to read and discuss it with y'all. It takes place in East Germany during the time of Communist control (not very many historical fiction books are written about this period). I'm looking forward to reading a book involving the Berlin Wall because that's something I've always wanted to learn more about.

Autumn is a season of many changes to the world of nature. It appears that the world we once called summer has now become unrecognizable and distance. Yet despite all the many changes that occur in nature this season, we can rest assured that the King of heaven and earth is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Nothing changes with Him! Thank you, Jesus, for that assurance!

Read His Word; give Him your burdens, troubles, and anxieties; rest in His grace. God knows the future nothing takes Him by surprise. Let us rest in that promise.

May God bless you all,

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1178 comments November 2024 Newsletter

Hello everyone! I’m having trouble grasping the fact that it’s November and the year is almost over. Anyone else? What plans do y’all have for the rest of the year? I was planning on getting this message sent sooner but life decided to get in the way.

To those of you into MLB (Major League Baseball) the Dodgers won the World Series (whyyyyy?? 😭 jk it wasn’t that important to me. 🤭). I’m a Yankees fan. lol. So I guess no more baseball till next March. 🥲 Now I can properly get into NFL (National Football League) again.

Yesterday was Sunday and we had most of the church youth plus a couple other friends (7 people in all) over for lunch and then they stayed the whole day and ate supper here too. We played Spikeball and Four-Square most of the time. That was fun and I’m super blessed to have such a great group of friends to do life with. I pray that all of you have that, or get that soon. ❤️

I’m currently lying on my bed writing this on my phone while I listen to the rain outside. It’s a vibe. lol. We haven’t had good rain for a while but it stormed all night and it’s supposed to rain all day yet. Nothing better than a good book and a thunderstorm.

Ok so, I’ve got several announcements for you:

Announcements

---We won’t be doing a BOTM in December (so no nominating this month) since that’s a busy month for most people. Instead we’re planning on doing something special for y’all that month so keep your eyes peeled for that!
---We won’t be doing the Billboard until February (we’ll begin nominating for that in January) since once again, December is a busy month.
---We have also decided to eliminate the Historical Hiker from our Billboard.
---We have hit 98 members!! Thanks to everyone who invited their friends and thank you all so much for being a part of our group! Love you all and hope you find this group helpful in your historical endeavors. 😄 Our goal is 100 by the end of this year.

Our November MOTM is Catherine!! Here’s the thread to congratulate her: /topic/show/...

She has been here from almost the very beginning, she’s an amazing person and I’m so happy she’s a part of our group here!

Our BOTM is Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys!! Can’t wait to read this one! (I’m really wanting to join this month, and I think I’ll finally have time!) I would love if y’all would join in! Here’s the discussion thread for that: /topic/show/...

Here’s the Billboard

The Billboard
October 2024... (featured in November)

This Day in History: The Past Nov. 4, 1922: King Tut's tomb was discovered at Luxor, Egypt, by British archaeologist Howard Carter after several years of searching.

This Day in History: The Present The MLB World Series 2024: the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers are competing for the championship.

Historic Hero George Washington ~ For all the things he did for the United States during the Revolutionary War and as our nation's first President.

Historical Hiker Alan Turing a brilliant mathematician and computer scientist who is considered the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. His work during World War II helped crack the German Enigma code, significantly contributing to the Allied victory.

Welcome to our many new members, if you haven’t introduced yourself we’d love if you would do that here: /topic/show/...

If you have any questions feel free to shoot one of the Mods a message, that’s me, BooksNCrannies, and Jasmine. Or ask here:
/topic/show/...

If you have a prayer request you can also message one of the mods and we can send out an anonymous prayer request for you or you can post one here. /topic/show/...

Also just a HUGE reminder to pray for the upcoming election tomorrow, I don’t know what side of the political spectrum yall fall under, I’m sure we have a variety of opinions here but that doesn’t matter to me. Lets just pray that God’s Will is done in this election and He is honored and glorified through it all!

Love you all, hope you have an amazing November, and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has for our little group! May God bless you all!

The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

🎶 ”It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. 🎶

Season’s greetings to y’all. And it's that time of year again! Last month of 2024 and Christmas only a few weeks away. Like where has the time gone?! I'm typing this message up just as it's beginning to snow outside our first snowfall of the season. It's definitely looking like Christmas more everyday now. I always *5 minutes later* oh, and our power's out as well due to a massive transformer explosion that happened near us, so I'm typing this by candle light in the living room. So cozy. 😊
As I was saying, I always look forward to this time of year. It's such a wonderful time of getting together with family, making memories, and celebrating the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ into the world. We usually go to Grandma's house a few days before Christmas and have a big dinner and have a fun time. On Christmas Day, we will be staying home doing things together, playing games, enjoying a delicious dinner, passing out some presents, and maybe we'll even watch a Christmas movie. What do y'all have planned for Christmas?

On to the general group stuff

As was mentioned in the previous message, there is no BoTM for December (nominations will become open soon for a January BoTM, so keep that in mind). But we still do have something a bit different planned for you. So what is it? I'm glad you asked! Because this is a busier month for everyone, we decided to do a poem of the month instead. But not just any poem. This month’s poem will be Snow-bound by John Greenleaf Whittier; this is an epic poem meaning that it's a bit longer than a normal poem. I love Snow-bound! It captures the mood of December so well, with themes of snow, family, friends, thankfulness, Christmas, peace, and good times. I know y’all are going to enjoy reading this poem. So cozy up in a comfy chair, have a cup of warm tea, and enjoy the winter vibes from this poem. ❄️🌨️☃️
There's also a discussion thread for this poem: /topic/show/...

There is no Billboard for this month. We will begin nominating for this again in January.

We just have 2 more members to go before we reach our year-end goal of 100! Thanks to everyone who has invited their friends. We appreciate it!

On the subject of members, it's time to announce our December MoTM. This member was one of the first ones to join this group and has has always been an active contributer to Timeless Pages.

🎉🎉 Congratulations, Bella M, on being our December MoTM!!!! 🎉🎉 Thanks for everything you do for this group! Go congratulate her and throw some confetti here: /topic/show/...

And a big welcome to all our new members! Thanks so much for being here. If you haven't introduced yourself already, please feel free to do so here: /topic/show/...

If you ever need prayer for anything, please post that here: /topic/show/...
Or you can message one of us mods and we can send an anonymous prayer request to that thread for you.

Have questions? Don't hesitate to message one of us mods: Elisabeth, Jasmine, or me. Or you can post a question here: /topic/show/...

As we go about our Christmas activities, let us not forget the Reason for this season
The prophecy : Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. ~ Isaiah 7:14 (KJV) ~

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6 (KJV) ~

The fulfillment :
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. ~ Luke 2:11 (KJV) ~

I sincerely wish each one of you a blessed Christmas and New Year's Day filled with family, friends, happy memories, and lots of fun. Have a wonderful December and enjoy this most wonderful time of year!!

Happy New Year!!

I am struggling a little bit to grasp the fact that it’s already 2025! Time really flies. It can be such an important reminder to each of us not to waste the short time we’ve been given.

I’m gonna keep the chatty part of this newsletter short and (hopefully) sweet.

I hope as you look back over 2024 you are able to see the hand of God at work in your life. And hopefully as you go into 2025 you will also be open to seeing Him at work!

I wanna pray God’s blessings on you all! I love you guys and pray that if you have a relationship with Jesus, that it only continues to deepen over this next year. And if you don’t already have a relationship with Jesus then I pray that you meet Him and see how truly wonderful it is!

What did you guys do or what are you doing for New Years? How were y’all’s Christmases?

Since this is the February newsletter, and February is the shortest month of the year does that mean this should be the shortest newsletter? 🤔 Well, I'll see what I can do about that.

Announcement : There is no Billboard for February. As a matter of fact, we have decided to pause The Billboard for a little while. Further updates about when we'll start this again will be mentioned in future newsletters.

Since only one book got seconds, there was no poll for the BoTM. Lines of Courage by Jennifer A. Nielsen is our February BoTM. It's been awhile since I've read a WWI novel so I think I'll be joining in this month’s discussion (if I can finish her Ascendance Series before February is over ☺️). How was that for a short February message? 😄 (I hope I didn't miss anything. 🙃)
Don't forget to be tackling your TBR piles while it's cold outside. It's the perfect time to take advantage of the winter weather, especially in the evenings. Find a cozy chair, a warm blanket, and a good book what else could you possibly want? Let me know what you like about winter the most in the General Chat. Take care, y'all! God bless.

Hello everyone!

I hope your last month has been amazing! For me it’s been kinda bittersweet. I got to hang out with a dear friend in February but my pastor’s sister had a heart attack and passed away last week. And a close friend of my dad’s passed away from cancer this week. It’s such a blessing to know we will see them again in heaven some day. 🥹

This next month doesn’t look very busy for us which is very nice, how are y’all’s Marchs looking?

Spring. Let’s just revel in that word for a bit. It feels like spring outside today. We had a thunderstorm a couple days ago (YES!! I love thunderstorms) and the air feels and smells like springgggg. Oh I can’t wait for it to be here for good. I hope heaven is just a perpetual spring. 🤭

What is a highlight from February that you’d like to share? I’d love to see y’all’s answers on the General Chat.

Happy April to everyone at Timeless Pages! As I type this, it's a really humid, warm day here and I'm loving it. ☺️ The birds are singing, the grass is getting greener, and even the spring peepers are singing their chorus in the evenings. Is spring out in full force where you are or are you still experiencing winter weather? Well, I'm ready to get right down to the group stuff here so I can go enjoy the spring weather. :-)

April’s BoTM is Bread of Angels by Tessa Afshar; sounds like an interesting historical/biblical fiction read. You can discuss that here: /topic/show/...

And go nominate books for May: /topic/show/...

🎉🎉🎉 A big shout-out to our MoTM, Naomi!!! 🎉🎉🎉 She's been here since very near the beginning. Thanks for contributing to the group, Naomi!!
Go say congrats and throw some confetti (as much as you want!) here: /topic/show/...

Are you new here? Why not introduce yourself? We'd love to know more about you. Say hello here: /topic/show/...

If you ever have a group-related question, feel free to message one of us mods: Elisabeth, Jasmine, or me. Or you can post a question here: /topic/show/...

And if any of you ever have any ideas for polls, please comment them here: /topic/show/...

We are so often worrying about tomorrow that we miss the beauty of today.

That's a quote I heard someone say recently and I thought I'd share. It definitely made me think and consider everyday as a beautiful gift from God and that I shouldn't be actively worrying about the uncertain future it's in God's hands. He's in control.

Well, why not go ahead and comment your favorite thing about spring in the General Chat. Let's see how many things we can think of. :-)

Have a great April, y’all (and don't forget to enjoy the beauties of today). God bless!
