I will look for the Ann Cleeves The Crow Trap, the characters and style sound like something I would enjoy. Your post reminds me I need to go line up the next Slough House book.

Here are my December reads:
Top Read
The Crow Trap - Ann Cleeves
First book in an English police procedural set in Northumberland featuring a rather eccentric older female Detective Inspector. I really enjoyed the slow unraveling of plot and the interactions between the characters.
Good Reads
Standing by the Wall: The Collected Slough House Novellas - Mick Herron
A collection of novellas set in the Slough House universe that includes: The List, The Marylebone Drop, The Catch, The Last Dead Letter, and Standing by the Wall (which is a Christmas story). Listened to the audio version which was narrated by the always excellent Gerard Doyle.
A Futile and Stupid Gesture: How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever - Josh Karp
Biography of Doug Kenney who helped found National Lampoon magazine. Lots of details of the workings behind the scenes of the magazine and how the work led to a stage show and finally the movies Animal House and Caddyshack.
Young Men in Spats - P.G. Wodehouse
A fun collection of tales mainly featuring members of the Drones Club along with the first appearance of Uncle Fred and a few Mulliners. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by Jonathan Cecil who was excellent as always.
Bruno and the Carol Singers - Martin Walker
A nicely done short story featuring Bruno and the village of St. Denis during Christmas. Listened to the audio which was read by Robert Ian McKenzie.
Circle Of Shadows - Imogen Robertson
The fourth installment of this historical mystery series finds the main characters off to Germany to help one of their own who has been accused of murder at the court of a German Duke. The plot was highly complex and had perhaps too much going on but I enjoyed catching up with Mrs. Westerman and Crowther and enjoyed all the historical details.
