Read a book from our "Previous Books of the Month" bookshelf that you have not previously read. Post here to tell us what you’ve chosen and, when you’ve finished the book, post a comment in the topic thread related to that book. (Topic threads for past books are in the "Previous BotM—DISCUSSIONS" folder.)

Reach out to a mod if you have questions about where things are.

And yes, the first quarter of 2025 is already half over, but the topic threads stay open, so you can always start or finish after the end of March 2025.

Of course!

Forrest (fmmcgraw) | 59 comments I really enjoy this challenge! Of the 619 books from the previous Book of the Month bookshelf, 20 titles are already on my reading list for 2025.

This week, I finished *Kindred* by Octavia E. Butler and started *The Grace of Kings* by Ken Liu.

I won't count these two titles for the challenge, so I'm left with the difficult task of choosing one from the following list:

- *The Name of the Wind* by Patrick Rothfuss
- *A Discovery of Witches* by Deborah Harkness
- *All Systems Red* by Martha Wells
- *The Three-Body Problem* by Cixin Liu
- *Foundryside* by Robert Jackson Bennett
- *Jade City* by Fonda Lee
- *A Game of Thrones* by George R.R. Martin
- *Gideon the Ninth* by Tamsyn Muir
- *Under the Whispering Door* by TJ Klune
- *Flowers for Algernon* by Daniel Keyes
- *This Is How You Lose the Time War* by Amal El-Mohtar
- *Circe* by Madeline Miller
- *Ship of Magic* by Robin Hobb
- *City of Stairs* by Robert Jackson Bennett
- *The Blade Itself* by Joe Abercrombie
- *Gardens of the Moon* by Steven Erikson
- *The Last Unicorn* by Peter S. Beagle
- *The Golem and the Jinni* by Helene Wecker
- *Mistborn* by Brandon Sanderson
- *The Book That Wouldn't Burn* by Mark Lawrence

I’m looking forward to making my selection!

Ooh, lots of good titles there! On the one hand, hard to choose—on the other, how can you go wrong? Especially since they are all “up for you to read this year!

I’m going to read The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, which was a Fantasy BotM in September 2013. I know the author has been in the news lately, and not for his writing, but this book has been on my shelf for ages and I have liked some of his other books (although there are some I didn’t care for). This will also fill a challenge I have in a different group to read something that could be classified as “magical realism. I likely won’t get to it till March, but that’s still in the 1st quarter of the year.

I think I'm going to go for Semiosis. Just requested it from the library and I'm apparently 5th in line for it, so hopefully it'll come in reasonably soon.

I'm curious on what you think of it and Interference
actually I've been dying to discuss that 2nd book with someone who has read the first two.

and OMG the third book is out and I didn't realize. Now to figure out where to shove it in among this massive series I'm on.

I really enjoyed Semiosis but have not yet read the next 2. Hmmm, could be a thought for our next SF series but not sure if Usurpation is the final book or if the author may write more.

I'm pretty sure we had a conversation about having it be a SF series read before and yet none of us nominated it :D

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 341 comments Ooh! I just read A Canticle for Leibowitz for another group and I just loved how there's so much to discuss about it. I'm off to your discussion now.

The group read it before we migrated to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, so there is not a topic thread here with our discussion. You can post about it here or I can make a topic thread in the Previous BotM Discussions folder, whichever you prefer.

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 341 comments Oh, well, that's ok. I was hoping to read a relatively recent previous discussion but it's truly nbd. I'll still count it for this challenge though!

OK, but seriously, feel free to post your comments here. I’m sure others in the group have read it & might want to chime in!

Dawn (caveatlector) | 215 comments I have finally picked out a book for this challenge. From November 2022, A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark.
It has been on my TBR since 2021, so it is about time I got around to it.

message 17: by Forrest (new)

Forrest (fmmcgraw) | 59 comments I completed Under the Whispering Door for my Quarterly Challenge.

Additionally, I am enjoying A Discovery of Witches and plan to finish it this week.

I had quite a few good options for this challenge... I also considered The Name of the Wind but wasn't ready.
