Brian Christiansen | 23 comments I am not certain if question not directly about reading are allowed, but after looking at some of the other topics on this forum, I think it is OK.
Well, anyway, I read a chapter out of my "alphabetical challenge" book when I was eating dinner at a Chinese restaurant, and the style of music they played was Chinese.
Pleasant enough, but pretty far down the list if I were choosing. I usually listen to either an "oldies" station that plays a 60s/70s/80s mix or a station that plays Beatles song reworked as jazz, though I have listened to others.
I guess my question is what kind of music do you listen to, or do you try to get rid of background noise (including music) as much as possible. If you do listen to music, do you prefer headphones or not.
I suppose this brings up another side question as to whether or not you read when you eat, and I mean full meals, not just little snacks like a handful of nuts or a bowl of popcorn.

Janice (jamasc) | 58953 comments Since I mainly read audiobooks, listening to music would be counterproductive. I find audiobooks with music in them to be jarring. When I read a print book, I'm generally in bed accompanied by my cat's purring.

Kristie | 18703 comments I don't listen to music when I am reading. I am too easily distracted and prefer a quiet space. This is also why I don't typically read physical books in public.

I also listen to audiobooks and really dislike when they add music or any other sounds.

I do not read physical books while I eat at all. If I am alone at home, I may occasionally listen to an audiobook while eating.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11084 comments I also don't listen to music when I'm reading. At this point I am used to my kids being around while I read, but if I can chose I prefer quite.

I used to read when eating by myself, but now I usually use that time to text or reply texts or whatsapp messages from my family and friends.
