Lia (acariad) | 12 comments Hi team,

Was wondering if someone could help me answer this question.

I'm looking at this version of a book called Isle of Illusion:
/book/show/1...
The Isle of Illusion (Deltora Shadowlands, #2) by Emily Rodda

This particular edition has no ISBN attached, and there are no official records of any version of Isle of Illusion being published in 2003. Publication dates are 2002, 2004, 2006, etc, but nothing in 2003.

I believe this originally had the ISBN 9781865044255 wrongly attributed to it, and now that that edition has been added instead of this version being edited, now this book exists in limbo.

Is there any way to delete this version? Or merge it with the updated information (cover, details, publication date) on the edition that has been added using the above ISBN?

Scott | 4134 comments The ISBN was moved to the new edition, which you requested earlier.

Scott | 4134 comments I changed it to 2002, which I recall was the only date on the copyright page you shared.

Lia (acariad) | 12 comments Hi Scott,

yes thank you very much :)

I am just wondering now, this 'edition' doesn't have an ISBN - what do we do with this record of the book now? Does it remain up without ISBN or anything like that?

Scott | 4134 comments An ISBN can only be on one record at a time, so it is moved to the new alternate edition record.

Lia (acariad) | 12 comments Yes, correct. This entry of the book doesn't actually relate to any specific edition now - what do we do about this one? Does it get deleted? Shouldn't this be merged with the new record?

No.

People want the cover they have read on their shelves.

ISBNs were meant to be unique identifiers, but unfortunately publishers/authors reuse them for different covers.

Hi Carol,

Understood - this cover however is the same cover as another edition.

When this edition was added, it had the wrong cover and wrong information (Cover is from the 2004 edition, and the publication year was listed as 2003 which was not a year this book was published in. Basically the information was wrong completely).

My initial request was to have this cover and book details updated to be correct for the ISBN attached - however, Scott has added an additional edition instead, and had the ISBN moved to that new edition.

This edition is that new edition but with the incorrect cover, as this cover is actually the 2004 reprint edition of the book - same as this version here: /book/show/3...

Am I making sense? This entry then should be merged with the 2004 reprint version if that is the cover people want, and if not that cover, then it should be merged with the updated edition that the ISBN was migrated to.

They certainly look the same - its a bit hard to tell because of the poor quality of the first example.

I want to ask a better librarian a question about this - hopefully I'll be able to get back to this later today.

Scott | 4134 comments IIRC the Scholastic logo is in a different place.

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7805 comments Correct. The Scholastic logo is centered on one cover image and on the left side on the other cover image.

centered: The Isle of Illusion (Deltora Shadowlands, #2) by Emily Rodda

left-hand side: The Isle of Illusion (Deltora Shadowlands, #2) by Emily Rodda

Which I now see. Thank you both of you!
