-------
The Professional (Spenser) by Robert B. Parker
an all-in-one-sitting read, quick, easy and enjoyable, with all the requisite Spenser elements.

A Hard Ticket Home (Rushmore MacKenzie) by David Housewright
new to me author recommend by you guys. I liked the hero and the case -- he's trying to find a missing person who can donate bone marrow to a sick relative. I found the first-person asides ("I was to regret this later") annoying, and there were way too many moving parts to this story, but I would read another.

Dark Light (Harmony Series) by Jayne Castle
my first "paranormal romance." it wasn't so para-normal-y as to be annoying, and satisfied my need to read a romance novel.

The Final Detail (Myron Bolitar) by Harlan Coben
slowly working my way (still) through the series. Esperanza is accused of murder and she won't speak to Myron to let him help her. I had a little trouble remembering where the previous left off as it had ben awhile since I read it and the events are referrenced throughout. Other than that, completely enjoyable story and characters.

No comment on Susan content? I also found this a one sitting book, and though I enjoy them, he ought to charge half price for a half book.

I'm not usually a Susan-hater, but now that you mention it, at the 3rd or 4th mention of how beautiful and perfect she looked in her business suit/pajamas/workout attire I did want to smack somebody.

Agree on the pricing. There is also a revelation about Hawk's reading taste which I found amusing. I'm tempted to spoiler it but I don't think I will, it was too fun to just stumble across it. I had to read it twice to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me.

This has been my least favorite in the series so far mainly because of the way Esperanza and Myron interacted and I am not a big fan of the series character accused of murder type plot either.

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments The Susan content in THE PROFESSIONAL was beyond annoying. After the 2nd reference to her Harvard education I was ready to scream!! I can't think of many characters that annoy me more than her. Has been so long since I read the early Myron books I can hardly remember what any of them were about.

Are there many Susan fans around? I don't mind the Harvard education, but I can't stand her eating, or lack thereof.

Marcy, I knew I'd been indoctrinated when every time Susan and Spenser sat down to a meal I was waiting for a reference to how little she ate. I don't think he did it once in The Professional, which is hard to believe.

Maybe Parker has heard from many normal females who take normal bites. Good to hear!

I don't mind Susan but I have only read up to A Savage Place which was published back in 1981. The dog has not shown up yet either.

I like the Jayne Castle paranormal romantic suspense books a lot; the Harmony series is light fun!
The links to add a book above this GR comment window are pretty nutty sometimes!! The newer books are the worst as the search engine appears to look at hits rather than recent dates of publication or revelance. It would also help if the numbers after the title were not so obscure so we could just type in a book and add them or limit the results to only one edition or language of each book.

Mary/Quite Contrary Phillips | 459 comments Wow...that was prompt. The most annoying character I can think of is the Twilight girl (Bella?) who is always talking about 1)how clumsy she is 2)how beautiful Robt is 3)how clumsy she is 4)how much she loves the very beautiful Robt.

Yick...sorry to the Twilight fans.

On the opposite side of Susan, is Grafton's Kinsey Milhone who is constantly chowing down Quarter Pounder's with Cheese. Naturally I feel compelled to join her. It would be rude not to, right?

Uh, sure, Mary, whatever you say! LOL!
