Mary Train | 3 comments I've made a book goal for myself this year to slow down and focus on quality...NOT quantity of books to read. I'm hoping that focusing on quality will allow me to dig deeper and find greater meaning in my reading and my work. I just blogged about this very goal last night on my website:

Pollopicu I agree. Just the other day I saw a thread where it seems like everyone is in a mad rush to read as many books as possible, in the shortest amount of time. Although, I have found myself slowly slipping into this bad habit, I realized I should slow down and enjoy the books I choose to read.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Good point! Good luck! :)

Petra | 4 comments I do set a number (12 for the last 2 years) but I find that if I allow myself to enjoy a chapter or two a day, they sink in better and I enjoy them more than when I am rushing to read a huge number.

I mean 50 books in a year? That's almost one a week. Maybe I could have done that 15 years ago but I have a full time job and two kids now. There's no way I could do that and I definitely wouldn't be enjoying or paying attention to them if I was pushing for quantity.

Mary Train | 3 comments I agree...and I have been plowing through books lately, since this summer, and it feels rushed, with less time to think and absorb. Not the way I remember enjoying books, or want to enjoy books. I'm glad to hear some people are on the same page as me about this issue!

Jen (nekokitty) | 38 comments I agree Mary! I work full time and have two young kids, and I'm obsessed with hot yoga, so I don't really get a lot of reading time. With the time that I have, I prefer to focus on actually reading and comprehending. :)

That being said, I do hope to read about 50 books this year, but it's not like I'm going to cry and pout if I don't make it. I'd rather read 20 books that I really got to enjoy than read 50 and not remember them.

Mary Train | 3 comments I'm hoping to find some real gems and enjoy a few hours of blissful zen moments reading in the zone with fewer choices and a slower pace.
So...tell me about hot yoga! Do you have to go somewhere to do it? In my new slower state of mind, I'm hoping to bring some yoga practice back to my life...it's been a lot of years, but I used to enjoy Kripalu (spelling?) practice years ago

Jen (nekokitty) | 38 comments Hi Mary!

Yes, I go outside of the home to do hot yoga - there are two studios that I practice at, one small one (with an AMAZING instructor), and one that's a little bigger. I also practice at home, though I usually have at least one child tormenting me, so it's not exactly an intense practice at home. I usually do a combination of Barkan (the same lineage as Bikram) hot yoga and vinyasa and Baptiste vinyasa. I've never tried Kripalu yoga, though I'd like to try that and a few others someday. :)

The Rainbow Zee (therainbowzebra) I took a class on speed reading--no thanks! I love taking my time with a good book, savoring it. Plus I love a mix of books, Classics, YA, bios, even graphic novels. That's why I don't mind so much about not finishing my goal--reading is about enjoyment and discovery, not speed ;)
