Lesley Hey everyone,
I am in the mood for a horror book with asylums (abandoned or not) and I'm not having a lot of luck. Can anyone recommend some that they know of?
Thanks in advance!

The Reach (Leisure Fiction) by Nate Kenyon

This is more of a thriller but it's got a tinge of a ghost story to it.
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane

This takes place in a run-down hotel but it's turned into a sort of asylum.

Again, not exactly an asylum but a crazy doctor and his locked up experiments.

I'm sure you'll get some other suggestions. Happy reading.

Maggie | 3 comments I've just looked at those asylum photos - amazing. There is a UK site called 28 days later which has some great stuff. Also Abandoned past.
I've got a real fascintation with old hospitals etc

Amy | 2 comments Patrick McGrath's Asylum is pretty twisted - it's not traditional horror, more psychological - but I really liked it.

On the same train of thought, I recommend the graphic novel Arkham Asylum:A Serious House on a Serious Earth by Grant Morrison. It's a chilling meditation on madness, Batman sort of harrowing hell and facing the psychological threat of his rogue's gallery.

Scott That is a real nice book. Typically amazing art by Dave McKean.

Erin | 8 comments If you happen to also be interested in asylum movies, there is an excellent horror movie called "Session 9". Not only is is a good movie, but it was filmed in an actual closed, abandoned asylum (that has since been demolished).
