I'm loving the Percy Jackson books... I made myself wait to read the 3rd and 4th til I was done with the January challenge, but now I'm just about to finish the 4th and will have to keep myself from rushing out to get the last one until Feb 1st :)

The funniest thing is I only read the first one to make sure it was okay for my son to read because he wants to see the movie (house rule, gotta read the book first) and got totally hooked myself.

Nita (gillnit) OK, here is my revised list. I added a second chance author. I am going to give Jenna Black another try. I enjoyed the first two books enough in her Morgan Kinglsey series to keep reading, but stalled on the third book. I am going to give it another go.

Thanks to Laura for the 1979 suggestions. Stella Price looks like an author I might enjoy, but I cannot find any of her books at any library in Illinois. I would rather borrow than buy. Not sure what I am going to do yet.

Ah, well. The second book was my favorite and it just kind of went downhill after. The fourth one was terrible. I keep reading because I really like Adam and Lugh and the whole demon angle is really different, but it's not the greatest series out there. I wrote a non-spoiler review for the fourth book if you want to see what you're in for later on. I don't remember what I specifically didn't like about the third book because I read it before I joined here and didn't write a review, but I think that right there proves that it was just average.

message 236: by Mel (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments Yes the challenge books should all be read in one month (so you're also not allowed to start the first book on, say: the 31st of the previous month either).
Ten books is a lot (according to me) and I usually don't finish the challenge but the fun is in participating :)

message 237: by Ana (new)

Ana (anacnunes) Every month I look at the challenges and think "This is my month!", but then I just realize that there's no way I'm going to be able to read 10 books in a month, and so I just watch as all of you manage to do it. I wish I was a faster reader, but I'm getting there. Maybe this year I'll be able to do a month (later on), after all, I just upped my monthly quota to 6-8 books. If I keep going at this rythim, one of theses days I'll join in.
Here's for hoping!

I used to read 10 books a month easy. Now with my limited reading time, it's very difficult to complete the challenge.

Still I enjoy choosing books for the categories,(indulging my pleasure and hope in playing around my TBR list), but then just allow myself to read whatever I can. : )

I think trying is just as fun. :)

message 239: by Lisa (new)

Lisa I have taken part in the challenge for a few months now, but I have never completed all the books. I enjoy seeing how many I can read. Plus since I started doing the challenge I have been making more time for reading.

I agree, this is my favorite part about participating in challenges...glad I'm not the only one LOL! Just something about browsing my "shelves" makes it feel deliciously like book shopping. Plus I get to rediscover books I've purchased and forgotten about. Although I usually join so many challenges that it's impossible to finish all of them, I love that it gives me some variety to choose from each month. Makes it easier to not "stray" from my lists.
