Not necessarily, although a smidgen of paranormal/fantasy elements is encouraged.

Thanks Laura, your suggestion for 1979 worked out for me! :)

Any thoughts on authors who were born or died in '72?

Welcome to the challenge, Sherry.
Here is a link to authors born and died in the year 1972.

Welcome to the challenge, Sherry.
Here is a link to authors born and died in the year 1972.

1979 - Samit Basu, Michelle Harrison, Christopher Hopper, Tom Lloyd, Antonia Michaelis, Stella Price, Catherynne M. Valente

And here are 1972 paranormal themed authors--besides being the awesome year I was born, there's a lot of good choices for 1972. :)
K.J. Bishop, Jaid Black, Max Brooks, D.M. Cornish, Melissa de la Cruz, Robert Fanney, Joe Hill (Stephen King's son), Melissa Marr, China Miéville, Justine Musk

My name is Jen, too and we both have the same pick for Male Author. :)
I'm loving the Percy Jackson books... I made myself wait to read the 3rd and 4th til I was done with the January challenge, but now I'm just about to finish the 4th and will have to keep myself from rushing out to get the last one until Feb 1st :)
The funniest thing is I only read the first one to make sure it was okay for my son to read because he wants to see the movie (house rule, gotta read the book first) and got totally hooked myself.
Ya know--the more I think about it--the more I think I'm going to have to do a re-read for #1--since my fav author died in 2007. So its either a re-read or going with say #5 or 6 or something. :o)

Thanks to Laura for the 1979 suggestions. Stella Price looks like an author I might enjoy, but I cannot find any of her books at any library in Illinois. I would rather borrow than buy. Not sure what I am going to do yet.

Ah, well. The second book was my favorite and it just kind of went downhill after. The fourth one was terrible. I keep reading because I really like Adam and Lugh and the whole demon angle is really different, but it's not the greatest series out there. I wrote a non-spoiler review for the fourth book if you want to see what you're in for later on. I don't remember what I specifically didn't like about the third book because I read it before I joined here and didn't write a review, but I think that right there proves that it was just average.

Ten books is a lot (according to me) and I usually don't finish the challenge but the fun is in participating :)

Here's for hoping!
I used to read 10 books a month easy. Now with my limited reading time, it's very difficult to complete the challenge.
Still I enjoy choosing books for the categories,(indulging my pleasure and hope in playing around my TBR list), but then just allow myself to read whatever I can. : )
I think trying is just as fun. :)

Exactly! I think this is half the fun! And seeing how other people like the books and picking up recommendations.

I'll submit my list soon.

I agree, this is my favorite part about participating in challenges...glad I'm not the only one LOL! Just something about browsing my "shelves" makes it feel deliciously like book shopping. Plus I get to rediscover books I've purchased and forgotten about. Although I usually join so many challenges that it's impossible to finish all of them, I love that it gives me some variety to choose from each month. Makes it easier to not "stray" from my lists.

Exact..."
Maybe as part of the fun you could start with the SK book this time...? :D

Pooh! Well, I just might! Unless I get the new Jeaniene Forst before the 9th of February.
