I wonder why nobody ever post here, discuss, share, bitch, anything!!!
and I don't mean this particular post, just generally.

I was thinking of the same thing, actually I planing to start this summer ^.^
The main thing you need is a good publisher. which is somehow hard if live in Saudi :)
Because they are responsible of taking the permission from the orginal author. And they will buy his/her rights. Unless you're planing to buy the book rights and print it yourself! Which costs a lot!
The next step is the translation process, which will need a lot of revision and
Editing with editors of your publishing agent.
There is a lot of things you need to conceder about the book depending on its type.
I will be happy to help if need any thing since we are in the same page ^.^ !
Please contact me or follow me on @mhaabdullah :)
Sometimes I think about starting to translate a book. The thought is reasonable, except I really don't know where to begin. Well, probably reading the book is a good start, so what's next?
Contact the author, ..the agent, .. or publishers?
Do a research? See how well it'll do in the market after translation?
I do realize that for most translator it's much easier to work as freelancers on short term projects. But I really think at some point a book is somehow a must in a translator's career, no?
Share, oppose, discuss. I would love to hear from you.
