Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments Hi Katherine,

Looked at your shelves and came up with a few ideas for you....

First off.... You need to read some Agatha Christie girl!!! I think she is right up your ally! So I am going to recommend anything by Agatha Christie and if you need a place to start try And Then There Were None.

I was also surprised not to see the in death series anywhere to be found on your shelves. You seem to like Nora Roberts so I think you would enjoy her work written and JD Robb. I just started these in Feb and am very excited about the series. The first is Naked in Death and I recommend you try it on audio book... very entertaining.

I noticed you have The Red Tent on your TBR and I highly recommend it! It is an excellent book so bump that one to the top!

If you enjoyed Anne of Green Gables (and who doesn't love Anne) you might enjoy some of L.M. Montgomery's other work. I recently read Kilmeny of the Orchard and really enjoyed it. It is just such a nice sweet short romance. It is public domain so if you have an ereader you can grab it for free. Loved it!

If you are in the mood for a historical try My Lady Notorious. I think you would like it. It is fast paced and just a real hoot!

And last but not least to throw in there a random left fielder you might enjoy The Book of Atrus by Rand Miller. This is the first in a series of three books based on the Myst computer game. Sounds silly but it is a really cool fantasy type of book. Really cool concept and I think you might like it.

So there you go! Hope something stands out. Let me know if none of these peak your interest and I will try again!

Happy Reading!

Angelique Anderson | 182 comments Carolyn F., giving a list of options seems to be the norm here so that's what I'll do.

From your to-read list:

A Girl's Guide to Vampires - I chose this one because I plan to read it this month and would really love to have someone I can chat with about it.

Twilight - I'm sure you've heard all about Twilight, so I won't give you the run down of the plot. It wasn't the most brilliantly written piece of literature I've ever picked up, but it's enjoyable and worth taking the time out to read.

Books not on your list:

Angels Fall - I'm a huge fan of Nora Roberts, so I always insist people pick up at least one of her books. There's nothing supernatural about this story, but it has a really good mystery and that great romance Nora is known for.

Dead Until Dark - I'm not sure if you're a fan of the series True Blood, but this is the first book of the series that the TV show is VERY LOOSELY based off of. It's a quick read, with another murder mystery, and a good bit of humor.

Evernight - I wasn't sure if you were into Young Adult literature, so I decided I'd throw this one in just in case. It's yet another vampire romance, but it has an original take on the idea.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 971 comments Debbie,

After going to the bookstore I was hoping to pick up The Darkest Night but sadly there where no copies around. So I picked up American Gods.

message 154: by Dalene (new)

Dalene | 82 comments Mayakda here are three suggestions. I also checked and the library has all three:

1) 16 Lighthouse Road by Debbie Macomber this is the first book in a series that I have thoroughly enjoyed. It doesn't appear that you've read something similar, but it is very enjoyable reading. The series continues with the address in order number.

2) Fablehaven by Brandon Mull recommended because in your to-be-read list you had his other book Candyshop War. He is an author who went to my elementary school, however, several years after I left. This series is enjoyed by old and young alike.

3) The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield - recommended because you have a subject "gothic" which this has been considered gothic fiction. I did not love it, but it has received great reviews.

Thanks for the suggestions! I grabbed the sample chapters of [book:What Angels Fear: A Sebastian St. Cyr Mystery|39149] and Blackstone Key for my Kindle, and put Five Star First Edition Mystery - In Milady's Chamber on hold at the library. Yay! I read Dead Witch Walking years ago, but Amazon is offering it free for the Kindle right now, so I'll give it another try. I doubt I'll get to all four of them this month, but at least one of them will shift from TBR to the "read" column!

Oh, and I'm following your reviews now, too. Cool to find others with such similar reading tastes!

Thanks Dalene! I will start with 16 Lighthouse Road since it is something different for me. Then Fablehaven. It sounds like a book my 13yo & I will both enjoy.
I confess I've read 13th tale before but I forgot to list it. It was just ok for me too.

Kami (katmiv) Deanna, I see that you are up for any suggestions for a book already on your TBR shelf. It looks like a lot of books on your shelf are on my TBR shelf too! So, with that in mind, I'll just recommend a few that I'm most excited about reading myself based on reviews and word-of-mouth from my friends.

Addicted by Charlotte Featherstone
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione
Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Lydia,

I picked 4 books for you, 2 from your current TBR and 2 that are not.

From your TBR shelf:

Dark Lover - Time to join the bandwagon, and see what the fuss is all about. My all-time favorite vamp series.

Beyond the Highland Mist - You obviously enjoyed the Fever series, so I think its time you should check out her Highlander one. This is the first book.

Not in your TBR:

Hotter After Midnight - Enter the world of the Other where you will meet an alpha werewolf and a sexy human with special "gifts."

Cry No More - Just finished reading this book last month, and its a beautiful story that will tug at your heartstrings.

Hope at least one of these will catch your eye.

Gigi | 1149 comments Hi Jennefer!

I went kind of crazy! So, forgive me. You didn't indicate whether you wanted options off of your TBR list or not. So, I've included books that were both on your TBR and off.

TBR LIST
Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught. This book looks interesting. I've just added it to my TBR list.
Duncan's Bride by Linda Howard. I read Duncan's Bride for the Linda Howard challenge last month and loved it. Now, this book is one of her straight romances without any suspense. I really loved this book.
Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught. Ok, I ran out today to buy the second book in the Westmoreland series. Jennefer, thanks to you I'm so happily hooked. So, I thought I'd suggest the second one for you as well.

Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught Duncan's Bride (Duncan & Evangeline, #1) by Linda Howard Whitney, My Love (Westmoreland, #2) by Judith McNaught

NOT ON TBR LIST
Georgette Heyer books- regency romance. I noticed that you had E.M. Foster on your TBR list so, I think you may enjoy her.
The Grand Sophy
Devil's Cub
Frederica
Venetia

Contemporary
Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie
The Choice by Nicholas Sparks- I read this book recently and I loved it.

Paranormal
Archangel by Sharon Shinn

I tried to get a little of everything. Let me know if I was totally off base and I'll look again.

The Choice by Nicholas Sparks The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer Devil's Cub by Georgette Heyer Frederica by Georgette Heyer Venetia by Georgette Heyer Welcome to Temptation (Dempsey's, 1) by Jennifer Crusie Archangel (Samaria, #1) by Sharon Shinn

message 169: by Leslie Jane (new)

Leslie Jane Fahrney (lesliejane0302) | 12 comments Julie:

Some suggestions:

Since you seem to like vampires, I would suggest the Carpathian series by Christine Feehan. I see that you have the first one, Dark Prince, already on your TBR list.

The Dark Hinters series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. eg Fantasy Lover, Night Pleasures.

Also try Argeneau Vampires by Lynsay Sands. #1 is A Quick Bite. Not a dark series, somewhat light and fun.

And if you want to get away from vampires, you could try the Breed series by Lora Leigh Tempting the Beast is the first of the series.

And the Mageverse series by Angela Knight. Try Master of the Night.

Would you be interested in any futuristic series? I can come up with some to read if so. Or anything you absolutely hate?

No worries, and hurrah! Pollyanna, a fellow Joss Whedon lover, come to my arms.

I notice you have a wee shelf dedicated to childrens' books, so I've got a few of my favourites as suggestions, and one of Joss's that I love (though it's part of a series), and one Womance (ish). Happy travels!

1. The Once and Future King by T.H. White.

2. The 13 Clocks by James Thurber.

message 177: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 433 comments Teri I've had a look at your shelves and here are some books I recommend for you.

First off, you have Bitten and Stray on your TBR. I love both of these so I'd definitely recommend you try them. You probably know that Bitten is werewolves and Stray is werecats, but the storylines are pretty similar so I'd pick one of the two rather than both - otherwise it could get quite boring.

I noticed you had one of Dakota Cassidy's on your TBR as well, and I've got to recommend The Accidental Werewolf. It's funny as heck so don't try reading and drinking at the same time - the results are not pretty.

Also, it might be worth trying How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks - again a funnier, lighter read but definitely a lot of fun.

It looks like you definitely love your vamps, but I want to recommend Sex and the Psychic Witch. I noticed you had Naked Dragon on your TBR, and Annette is one of my favourite authors. This is the first book in her second trilogy about witches, but as you're an erotica fan I figured you'd prefer this as it's hotter than the first lot.

It looks like you read quite a bit of YA too, so I'd like to recommend Blood and Chocolate. If you've seen the movie, the book is pretty different but it's a great read.

Ok, last up I think you'd like Patricia Brigg's urban fantasy books. She has two series set in the same world - one with a coyote shifter called Mercy that starts with Moon Called and another with an omega wolf called Anna that starts in the On the Prowl anthology. Mercy's series is darker and more gritty, but Anna's is more romantic. I like both, but if you're not sure maybe start with Anna as it's in an anthology so you have another three authors to try.

KimKirt | 1638 comments Hi Harper!

Here are some pics for you.

Fiction:
The Book Thief This is one of my five star books. I really liked it! If you go to the library, it is usually in the Young Adults section (at least it was in ours).

The Art of Racing in the Rain Told from a dog's point of view. I thought it was pretty cool.

Funny & Light
Skinny Dip I love all Carl Hiaasen books, but I think he is a love 'em/hate 'em type of author. I lived in Florida for 35 years and used to read his column in the newspaper. Fun books.

Lean Mean Thirteen Another comedic author that I love is Janet Evanovich. I laugh out loud reading her Stephanie Plum series. You don't have to read them in order, I haven't. This is one of the better ones in my opinion.

Historical Romance
Ashes in the Wind I noticed you had a novel by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss on your TBR list (though not this one). I have read all her books, this was one of my favorites.

A Rose in Winter Because it's on your TBR list. I've read it as well and I wanted to give you a pick from your TBR list.

Okay, hope you find something you like out of these!

Wotmania was a community that grew out of a Wheel of Time fan-site based board. The other Nairabell was from somewhere in England (outside London if I remember correctly). Bitten by Kelley Armstrong is on your to read list, she also has a young adult series that starts with the Summoning. It is very good.
Wendy Coursi Staub has a young adult series called Lily Dale. The first book is Awakening. Very interesting series.
Rachel Caine has the Weather Warden series which starts with the Ill Wind.
Two cozy mystery/paranormal books are Trouble with Magic by Madelyn Alt and Witch Way to Murder by Shirley Damsgaard. I love the Abby & Ophelia mysteries. They are very cute.
