Sarah (m_sarah) | 60 comments Librarian needed for Someone Like You and Other Short Stories : this edition's language is listed as 'French' but it is, actually, an edition that was made to help French speaking people to improve their English.

About 95% of this edition is in English (the other 5% are the introduction and some foot notes).

Could you list its languages as English AND French?

If I made no mistake, I linked directly the edition I'm talking about (and, in case I did something wrong, here is its ISBN: 2253046922).

Thank you!

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments You can't pick two languages, but I could add a SHORT something in the edition notes and add something longer in the description. What would be appropriate for edition? "Learning English edition"? Something along those lines?

message 653: by Sarah (last edited Sep 05, 2012 02:30PM) (new)

Sarah (m_sarah) | 60 comments "Learning English edition" would fit perfectly, I think.
Thank you!

Or maybe, even, "English Learners edition". I don't know if you can say that in proper English.

message 654: by Sara (last edited Sep 05, 2012 04:27PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments You know what? I looked at the cover of the book, and I went with "Lire en anglais Edition", since that's what the book says. I think having that description in French is appropriate. To me it implies that it is an English book intended for French speakers, which is exactly what it is!

I also added this to the description: "This edition contains an introduction and footnotes in French, with the main text in English. It was created to help native French speakers improve their English-language skills and become more confident reading English literature."

I figure that this book is targeted to French audiences, the book's official language should be French, even if the bulk of the book is in English. I suppose I could ask some other librarians if you wanted, but that made sense to me.

Want me to tweak it at all?

message 655: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (m_sarah) | 60 comments "Lire en anglais" means "Reading in English" and it is what is written on the cover and what makes this edition "special", you are absolutely right.

As for what you add to the description, it is great. Precise and correct. I like the "more confident reading" and think it is appropriate.

This edition is targeted to French speaking audiences, yes. It is a French edition, by the way. Made by a French publisher. Even tho the short stories by Roald Dahl are in English. Anyway.

I am getting sick of saying the word "French" so many times in one post, so I'm going to stop. ;)

Your modifications of the page of the edition are great. Nothing more to add, I think.
No need to bother other librarians, I'm already worrying about making you work too much on this old, forgotten maybe, edition.

You have done more than what I thought was necessary. Thank you. :)

message 662: by Sara (last edited Sep 06, 2012 05:40PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments Yep! We ARE killing "A Novel" after titles, right?

message 663: by Vicky (last edited Sep 06, 2012 06:40PM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 240 comments Except when it seems necessary to have it there, yes.

If it was a fiction book called "Hitler's Rise to Power: A Novel" I would probably leave it to distinguish that it's a fictional novel and not non-fiction.... other than (obscure) cases like that, it can go.

I don't know. It could be interesting. Especially depending on who's POV it was written from. Like Eva Braun or a Jewish child or a maid...

Sarah (m_sarah) | 60 comments I have 2 "librariany" demands. All about French editions, of course (I'm sorry).

1. My edition of Chez les fous by Albert Londres is not on GoodReads.
ISBN: 2-84261-033-4
Editor: Collection Motifs (edition made in 2006)
Language of the edition: French

2. How can I propose the picture of a cover to you, dear librarians? I have, with me, the book I spoke about above and another one which Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ page do not have a picture (Journal d'aran et autres lieux).
I don't know if I could take a picture of them with my digital camera and sent it to one of you, or if I have to do it in another way.

Bea Thanks, Bec.

message 674: by Bea (new)

Bea Oh, my goodness! Here I am reading Waiting for Godot: A Tragicomedy in Two Acts and thinking it sure is taking a long time to read 61 pages! And, then I discover that this book is numbered only on the left facing pages! The play itself starts on page 7 (left facing page) and ends on the right facing page following page numbered 60. The Act I page occurs on the right facing page before the one numbered 7. The right facing page following the end lists the original cast. All else at the end of the book is advertisement.

None of the right facing pages are numbered. The left facing pages are numbered consecutively (7, 8, 9, 10, ...). So how many pages should be counted for this book? Obviously more than 60.

message 675: by Sara (last edited Sep 22, 2012 10:19AM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments What is that? 108 for the text, plus another 3? That edition DID have 111 pages before we changed it... I'll change it back.

message 676: by Bea (new)

Bea Thanks, Sara. Sorry I made so much work for you. 111 is as good as any count I guess. I'm just not sure where the count should have started from before page 7 because there were not enough front pages to make up the 6 left facing ones that should have preceeded it.

Thank goodness I do not usually read plays!

message 677: by Sara (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments Well, it's over 100, which is what matters, right?

message 678: by Bea (new)

Bea Yes, Sara, you got that right. So now I don't have to read two plays for the task. :)

message 679: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (m_sarah) | 60 comments I just "rescued" a Kindle edition of a French classic (maybe it is known overseas?) : Les Malheurs de Sophie (I linked directly to my ebook edition).
I found it because I typed in its ASIN (B005R4ET3S) and it had no title or author since something went wrong after a GR update (that is what the website "told" me).

But now, I need a librarian to combine this edition to the several others still available on GR : http://www.goodreads.com/work/edition... (a link to its editions).

Pretty please?

Deanna (whodunitrdr) | 190 comments Good morning, I have several requests, please. Thank you.

Plenty To Come and Plenty to Come Plenty, FL 1 need to be combined, please (one is ebook, the other is pb).

1 Bed 2 Weddings 3 Husbands and 1 Bed, 2 Weddings, 3 Husbands Bride Train 5 also need combining (one is ebook, one is pb).

Keeley's Opposition and Keeley's Opposition Terra-Form 3 are the same, one ebook and one pb version that need combining.

I found two books that have the paperback version included on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ but the info is incomplete. They do not state that it is pb format and the page numbers are missing.

Animal Instinct by Paige Tyler, paperback version does not state so on GR and also needs pages added (195 pages) (ISBN matches pb info)

Animal Attraction by Paige Tyler, paperback version does not state so on GR and also needs pages added (176 pages) (ISBN matches pb)

I also have several books that I read in ebook format that have paperback formats available that are not listed on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.

Surrounded By Fur by Corinne Davies, paperback available but not on GR

Protect and Fur by Corinne Davies, paperback available but not on GR

Plenty To Learn by Lara Valentine, paperback available but not on GR

When Kat's Away by Missy Martine, paperback available but not on GR

Maia's Magickal Mates by Gigi Moore, paperback available but not on GR

Sarah (m_sarah) | 60 comments Again, a Kindle edition needs to be linked to the other "regular" editions on GR.

Here, the Kindle edition: Les Petites filles modèles
and here, all the others: http://www.goodreads.com/work/edition...

EDIT: And another one I just found.
Pour une barre de chocolat is one of the French editions of The Sugar Mouse by John Branfield.

I think I got all these through the Paige Tylers. Let me know if I missed any details.

The bookstrand links are from the publisher, Siren. I will try to get other links but I am not finding anything at isbndb.com, worldcat or isbnlib. None of the author sites list the pb version except to link to a seller. Can you suggest any other sites I can check? I will be glad to do the legwork. If not, I will just ask for page length verification for the ebooks and explain the situation when I do.

message 688: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (m_sarah) | 60 comments Maybe I should ask for the librarian status.

I added a new edition, I borrowed at my library, of a book already on GR.
But when I finished filling all of the form, even managing to get an image of the cover of my edition, the "book" was created. Like a new one. Unlinked to all the other editions.

Did I do something wrong?
Can a sweet sweet - and patient with my messages - librarian fix that?

The edition I added of Cœur d'encre and the other editions : http://www.goodreads.com/work/edition...

Thank you.

message 689: by Sara (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments Nope, you didn't do anything wrong! For some reason, even when you're specifically creating a "new edition" it doesn't automatically combine it with the other editions. You always have to combine after the fact. Annoying, but that's the way it's set up! You should definitely sign up to be a librarian! It's awesome! :)

Oh, and I combined those for you!

Oops, somehow I missed the publisher links there. I think I managed to get most of the info between those and records on OpenISBN, so I've added and combined the paperback editions.
