I read Essays in Love by Alain de Botton. Does it work for this task? Somewhat philosophical but fictional. The prose is well-written.The book plots around a couple's love affair.

Books I personally enjoy from a philosophical perspective - House of Leaves, Invitation to a Beheading, The Unbearable Lightness of Being
I get a lot out of The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book by Miiguel Ruiz. But it is very new-agey!
