Fat Albert: a book ove..."
I like that one

It sounds easy, but not so much if you read a lot of UF & PNR. If you think about it, a bunch of main characters in paranormal don't have a real job. I think it was a much easier challenge for the people who read contemporary romance.

What happened to your I Spy - you need to work it up or Judithe will take all the spots. That's if we let her get back in the shower.

A-Z challenges were a load of fun for me, until the inevitable stragglers are left. Augh! Then, they start to annoy me. So, my vote is for one of the yearlies other than A-Z. But, ANY challenge is welcome in the group and those that wish to join in can.
If you don't mind, Judithe, I'd like to work with you on tweeking your idea in #47. I really like that one and have some ideas to add. Let's chat! :)
And, Saturday morning cartoons ROCKED! The oldies were the best and those little Schoolhouse Rocks bits ... (these wouldn't have played in AU, Sandra, since more US related stuff), but "I'm just a bill, up on capitol hill...." Do you remember those? :D ()

Steph, it's a date for #47!
I'm waiting for I Spy too...love those types! And the fairy tale one...with all these ideas, we will have no worries of running out of ways to increase will simultaneously decreasing out TBR's!

#47 spreadsheet chat? LOL! Can't think of a better way.
L³ said she was going to be posting that one soon. :) And I've emailed AV re: ok on some tweeks I made to her fairytale challenge. I'm hoping to post that one as a 2011 challenge soon.
All great ideas! Love our creative bunch here @ SOS!

Would Fat Albert even be made these days? Parents might scoff and say it's politically incorrect or some such. But I liked it. "Hey, hey, hey, it's Faaaaaat Albert!" LOL!
And I just thought of a cartoon I HATED ... Woody Woodpecker. SO annoying!

I don't recall Prince Planet...

Here's a list of some more that weren't listed.

Judithe it was Aquaman that reminded me of Prince Planet. PP was sorta a better looking Astroboy and I think came from the same cartoon factory as Aquaman.

There were so many superheroes...loved those...but can't keep them all straight now.
I used to think the Jetson's flying cars were great...now I'm more interested in the cleaning 'bots! Toons now are so different...

what kind of challenge would you build around cartoons? Like space travel for Jetsons. Red cover for the annoying bird (WWP)? That kinda stuff or diff?

Conjunction Junction, what's your function...
Lolly Lolly Lolly get your adverbs here...
I freaking love Schoolhouse Rock. My son's 4th grade teacher last year is my age (late 30's) and he used Schoolhouse Rock throughout the year, it was awesome hearing my son walking around the house singing "Electricity...electricity!"
Don't forget He-Man--that one could be a muscly stud on the cover, or a character with more-than-human strength. Or super strength could be the Hulk. Let's make a list of all the cartoons everyone mentioned and we can all brainstorm for challenge ideas for each.
I'm going to post the I Spy challenge--chill yourselves. I have 20 categories--should I make it a 6 month challenge or a year? I'm not going to put a set start & end date, just 6 months or a year from the date you start it, then people can join whenever they want.
Here are the categories I have--does anyone have any other ideas? It's going to be a TITLE challenge, so you have to find the word in the title of the book, from each of the categories:
A color
A number
A flower
A tree
A name in the title
A city, state or country
A body part (heart, eye, hand, bone, etc)
A weapon (knife, sword, arrow, dart, etc)
A body of water (sea, ocean, river, lake, pond, etc)
A form of water (ice, fog, rain, snow, water, etc)
A product of fire (heat, smoke, fire, burn, flames, etc)
A heavenly body (sun, moon, star, etc)
A piece of architecture (castle, house, tower, bridge, etc)
One of the 5 senses (sight, sound, touch, scent, taste)
A royal title (king, queen, princess, duke, etc)
A family member (brother, daughter, mother, etc)
One of the 4 elements (fire, earth, water, air)
One of the 4 seasons
A time of day (morning, noon, night, evening, midnight, etc)
A metal (gold, silver, bronze, iron, steel, etc)
ETA: I think I'm going to do a year--the A-Z challenges are a year for 26 categories, and I'd like this to be a fun one that people want to join, rather than a toughy only for die hard challenge addicts. *cough cough*

I like that! Have people post their dates and choose which will work best for them!

I'll create a "Cartoon Challenge Ideas" thread and we can work on it there.
ETA: ^^ Thread created @ here
Your iSpy is gonna be fun. A yr is good. I'm liking the "set your own dates" option and using that more and more also. Gives more flexibility and allows people to jump in whenever they'd like.

So Laura how many books have tree in the title? Maybe you should have selective title & covers throughout instead of just titles, btw love the categories.

You're right, I just searched my books for trees (maple, birch, oak, elm) and only had one, War for the Oaks. Should I change that one to tree/plant? Or just eliminate it altogether and just make one category for flower/plant/tree? That's probably a better idea, huh? So that means I need another category. Any ideas kiddos?
See, that's why I posted the list--I'd rather iron out the kinks now than when it's already posted. :)

An emotion (love, hate, pride, passion, desire, fear, envy, etc)
An animal (dog, cat, wolf, tiger, etc)
Something you read (book, tale, story, etc)
Gender identifier (boy, girl, man, woman, wife, husband, lady, etc) *anyone have a better idea for what to call this besides stupid Gender Identifier?
Paranormal being (vampire, ghost, demon, angel, devil, zombie, unicorn, dragon, etc)

But while I was scrolling through my TBR for ideas, I kept running into the same words over & over again in the titles. Which got me to thinking--that's a cool challenge idea. Read 3 (or whatever) books for each overused word:
Blood, Bite, Dead, Kiss, Shadow, Magic, Dark

Oh no, I am getting sucked into the challenge vortex....

Check out Our TOP GUNS!

If we're doing it as a year challenge, that is a nicely divisible number! LOL...two books a month is manageable for all of us with no pressure...that is, if we haven't signed up for a gazillion other challenges too!
(Off to peek again to see when I can start...list making today...paper grading can wait till AFTER that and Black Mambo!)

Check out Our TOP GUNS!"
I'm going to have to go back and add up my page count for last month when I read all those fatty books. I might have another record for you suckas to break. ;)

BTW...do love your tulips!

Thanks!

I'll get it up tomorrow morning--it's 9:15pm Friday here in the good ole Midwest US of A, so it'll be up right around when you're going nigh-night. :)
I'm behind on True Blood, just about to watch the last 2 episodes. Do we have a True Blood thread? That might be something else I start tomorrow--the season is so freakin' good this year!

Great! About when I'm finished work today (and who wants to sleep when there's a new challenge about!)
There IS a trueblood thread...And a number of fans who are happily drooling over season three!
I'm still on #1 of season one...lol! Not appropriate to watch with the kids, and spouse won't watch as my DVD is NOT in Japanese...so waiting for the end of kids' summer vacation....

Hmmm...could help you find a new book! lol! Actually, I was hoping to find a place to put Poison Study in...problem solved!

For example, Sat. morning cartoons as maybe a 3 or 4 month challenge starting after Creature Challenge officially ends.
Annual challenges: A-Z's from January (option for half in 6 months or all in a year, with Jan-June being first half of the alphabet and so on is a fun idea!); Read the year, or the second one (needs a good name!) (January-singleton, Feb. duo, Mar. trio, but totaling 12 books).
Well...look forward to feedback and suggestions, and I've really got to stop thinking about these and get back to work!
Oh...One LAST thing (honest!...at least for the next couple of hours!) is I'm hoping we have another fall-themed cover hunt...like Color Me Read...hint hint hint...
